The basic crust for a raw pie is a couple of handfuls of nuts. Any would be fine. I like to use almonds. I put the almonds in my food processor and process until it is fine. Then I like to add a dash of sea salt and some raw honey or agave nector. A tablespoon is fine. I don't measure I just use a large spoon. Then process this together and then place in a dish or pie plate. You can mash

I have found the best lettuce (so to speak) leaves are a cabbage leaf. It is called Nappa Cabbage. It tastes great raw, even the spine of it. It is even sturdy enough for a wrap. I have found with types of lettuce leaves they tend to fall apart or tear easily. The nappa cabbage doesn't do that it is tastes good. Try it!

Haven't done this in awhile but here I am. I have been really trying hard to stay raw completely but my headaches are too severe. I had a bad migraine the other day so I have been adding brown rice and live grain cereal to my diet and it has been a help. So I think I have to do that for awhile and then gradually decrease my grains if I choose to. But other than that it is going ok. I am tryi

Haven't posted in a few days. I have been on a job hunt the last few days. I haven't been eating too much. Fruits and vegetables. Not even my smoothies. I decided I had to cut back on my eating. I have been relying too much on nuts and other fats. So I have been trying not to eat those, except for this evening. My hunger got the best of me.

Didn't post in a few days. Have been super busy this weekend. We got huge amounts of snow here, like 16 inches. It just wouldn't stop. Anyway everything was going great until today. I had huge amounts of cravings for anything sweet and fatening. So today didn't go so good. I will pick myself up again and start over tomorrow. Oh well. The great thing is that everyday is a new day.

Sapphire33: I am glad you liked the recipe. So did I and that is why I shared. Doesn't taste just like a shortcake? Hmmmmm. Carsick8: Well I always read that is the time frame to keep fresh food in the fridge. So I always go by that rule. Am I the only one who ever heard this?

Going raw is a personal experience and it is definitely a transition. I started a month ago and didn't go completely raw until one week ago and it is still very hard. You have to go your pace and keep reading about. One book that I really like was 12 steps to RAW. It tells you that it is a process just like everything else. Your body has to wean itself off the addiction of cooked foods becau

I am also relieved about the fruit thing. Type 2 is in my family. My mother just got diagnosed with it this year, my Uncle has it already and I am next in line. I do not want to go through that. I have everything in my family that you can possible imagine. I do not want any of that. I am glad to hear how wide eyed you are. That is great. I know it takes me forever to fall asleep and I a

I do eat lots of ground flax seeds. I put them into almost every food I eat and even the smoothies (not all the time with smoothies). I do eat avocados but right now where I live avocados are really expensive. I do not like eating cocunuts, I will drink cocunut water though that has been flavored with fruit puree. I know but I really want to lose about 30 pounds if I can. I have been excer

I feel real good this morning compared to yesterday. So this morning I am having my green smoothie with coconut water, spinach, frozen banana and a pinch of maple syrup to sweeten it up a bit more. This is all I have in the house. I am going shopping today, Yeah!. The smoothie tastes alright and could taste the spinach so I can't wait until tomorrow so I can have my regular smoothie. But aft

Alright, I think I know why I was so tired and hungry today. I did not have my greens in the smoothie this morning for the lack of almond milk. It has to be it. Those greens really do help the hunger and tiredness. But I am not hungry anymore. I had a big bowl of finely minced cauliflower, carrots, and flax seed with homemade salad dressing on it and I am full know. I ate this two hours ago

Another great day. Only yesterday my basement flooded. We had a huge ice storm and then rain. I cleaned it all yesterday and now it is drying with blowers. So that was my night. This morning I am feeling super tired. I really just want to go back to sleep but the kids are home from school because of the weather. I cannot wait until spring. I hate this cold and snow. I just have a huge

I will look into that more, thanks for the info. Even though I am feeling great a new problem has occured and I am not sure if it is a cold, allergies, or just a process from the raw diet that my body has to get rid of. Two days ago I started getting really stuffy with my nose, sneezing a lot. Is this part of the diet and my body has a lot of stuff to clean out? I cannot tell. Today I am g

Here is a green smoothie that I have every morning and I love it. It is creamy and sweet. I put in a small amount of raw almond milk with a handful of spinach. Then mix it up so it is creamy. Then I put in more almond milk. It is just me so one cup to one and a half cup is usually fine for me. Then I put in a banana or two it depends how much I want. Then I put in any frozen fruit I have

Thank you. I have been reading that eating fruits is truely the one food that has all the nutrients your body needs. It was made to be sweet so we would eat it, back in the day that is. I will not be worried about it and the woman who did the demonstration says too many fruits is not a problem. Just have to have a variety of both fruits and vegetables, specially dark green leafy vegetables.

Hey Discover, well my headache went away this morning. I am not sure what that was yesterday. Maybe you aren't eating enough. I know I couldn't just eat what you are eating. I would be just starving. Try a little more variety as well and see if they go away.

Not having sweets in the house will be tough. I am not the only one here, I have a family so I will have to do my best. But if eating sweet fruits will keep me on the raw diet then it will have to do until my palate gets used less sweet fruits and vegetables. Let me just tell you how good I am feeling. Yesterday I had so much energy I did not know what to do with myself and my nightly schedul

My biggest problem going raw is the cravings for cooked food. Just giving some recipes to get started is a great help. I got this book and it had about 10 recipes to get started and it has helped a lot. Also talk about what to excpect. I wasn't sure what to expect since I am new to this type of lifestyle. I a finally to a place where I can refuse cooked food and not feel bad about it. It ha

I know, I just love fruits. I really crave sweets and that has been my problem with food. I think I need to do it for now until I can get used to some recipes. I went to this raw demonstration yesterday and gave me ideas and tips to make more greens and other vegetables. Like this nappa cabbage salad. It was so good. I never knew cabbage could taste like that. Well I do have psoriasis and

Green smoothies aren't gross if you mix them with fruit. No kidding, it is delicious. I had one this morning. I put in a handfull of spinach and mixed a little with almond milk until smooth. Then I put in more almond milk to 1 cup and 1 banana and 3 frozen strawberries. Drink it up!! Delicious. Try it and you will love it.

I went to my raw food class or demonstration and let me tell you how full I am right now. I learned great recipes and tips of the trade. And I found out there is a support group right in my town once a month. I never thought there were that many people on this type of life style. I probably won't eat a dinner tonight because how full I am. I really never thought eating a raw diet could be so

Try your smoothies with fruit, it will taste better. Such as a handful of spinach, I like to use raw almond milk, 1 banana, and or frozen fruit such as a couple of strawberries. The smoothie is green but tastes great. Give it a go and see what you think.

Okay, today is my food class and I can't wait. But I got this book and it is so great. It is a book to help you stay raw. This book is me all the way. I have one you can use and this is very good. You take 1 cup of any nuts you want to use. Grind them up and place in a food processor. Then take 1 cup of any dried fruit such as raisins, cranberries, peaches, etc. You put that in the food processor. Put in some olive oil and I guess you can use agave nector if you want them more sweet or honey but I haven't done that. It is your preference.

Where do you live? I can get a 1 pound package of strawberries for close to $3.00 at our local discount store. If I go to a major grocer store it is more expensive. It is well worth it. And if you grow them like I do in the spring I will be so overl oaded with strawberries I won't know what do do with them. You can also freeze them and they will work just fine with the recipe. I have done t
