Hi friends. Well, I feel much better today. Yesterday, I felt that I had arrived at a crossroads, where I had to choose between a continued climb to a higher spiritual level, or a regression to an addictive lifestyle. My first reaction was fear of the higher path. After a day of much angst, and some specific healing work, I'm refreshed, renewed and ready to resume this journey. The only cooke

Pam: I started with "12 Steps to Raw Foods" by Victoria Boutenko, after my daughter suggested it (though she hadn't read it yet herself at the time). I found that book completely convincing and inspiring, and still do. Next, I read all the other Boutenko books (Green for Life and Raw Family), and my raw eating pattern has pretty much been based on the way Victoria says she eats (green s

Good morning. I had a mixed day yesterday. Woke up feeling great, had another green+grapefruit smoothie for breakfast, loved it. At lucnchtime, I craved a cooked meal my wife was having (rice, tofu, kale), but resisted and made green soup instead. I liked it, but afterwards, I started feeling more frustrated than ever about having diet restrictions and having various people keeping track of "

I also read somewhere recently (been reading too many different things, can't remember which one) that we need to eat fat in order to loose fat. I know you love avocados... Can't wait to see you Monday! xoxox Dad

Good morning. Yesterday I woke up feeling great, and started the day with a delicious smoothie I call my "bitter special": collards, grapefruit, a small banana (to cut the bitterness a tiny bit) and rejuvelac. Very satisfying. For lunch I made a small soup by blending buckwheat sprouts, cilantro, tomato and lime (in other words, whatever I could find in the refrigerator), and it was

Interesting day. Depression found me and overcame me late this morning and lasted most of the afternoon. I slept part of the time, and just sat doing nothing the rest. I felt completely empty, not caring about anything. I tried to think about what the cause might be, but didn't even care about that. Then (sorry for the gory details) around 5:00 I had a big @#$%& with lots of mucus, and instantly

Hi and welcome! If you haven't already, I'd suggest reading "12 Steps to Raw Food" by Victoria Boutenko. That was the book that got me over the resistance. If you leave it around, perhaps your husband will look at it too! Good luck and keep posting.

Good Morning. No profound thoughts today, just my food list. Yesterday I started with the arugula smoothie mentioned above, which I didn't like but drank anyway. Later, I had the following items, at different times: - an apricot - some almond milk - 1/2 avocado with buckwheat sprouts, lemon and nori -- really good - some lentil sprouts and sauerkraut and flax crackers - lots of cherries

I think you may find that adding that green drink will help with the transition away from smoking too. After I read Victoria Boutenko's books, I immediately started consuming the equivalent of an entire large bunch of kale every day, and my coffee addiction just vanished with no symptoms other than feeling that coffee would not taste good. Boutenko's theory is that amino acid deficiency is a caus

Hello my friends, don't worry, I'm never far away. I thought I was done with orchestra gigs for the summer (in fact, I wanted to start this raw food thing earlier, but decided to wait until my last spring concerts were over), but then one came up, so I had a rehearsal sunday night and a concert last night. As for food, when I eat 100% raw, I'm actually quite a different person than when I eat

My first batch of rejuvelac (which I just finished) was made with only about 1/3 cup of sprouted wheat berries to 3/4 gallon of water, so it is kind of a mild version. It tastes good and doesn't have much smell. I noticed that Ann Wigmore suggests filling your jar 1/4 full of wheat, which would be about 4 cups of wheat for a gallon jar, which sounds like way too much. (She liked to brew it 3 time

Hi Folks. It was great to have starfruit home, even though it was just for 24 hours, and especially fun to make nice raw food for her. EA, we're not quite at the "resort/spa" level yet but at least we have the sprouter, dehydrator, vita-mix and cuisinart, plus plenty of love. The wheatgrass operation will follow shortly. I'm currently in Maine at my in-law's house. They're the kind o

Good Evening. So, last night I experienced a sudden wave of depression along with pretty major cravings for the old foods. This hadn't happened in a while so it kind of surprised me. At one point, I felt sort of desperate, and decided to try a square of raw chocolate to cheer me up. However, it made me feel worse. Oddly, at that point I started craving sauerkraut, so I had some and then started f

Hey Inaia, thanks for the sincere post. It helps us all when one of us can be frank about what she/he is going through. I believe that by eating 100% raw, we open ourselves more widely to universal love (source energy). Many times we're not ready to accept this increased exposure and the feelings it stirs up. Be gentle with yourself. Let it in little by little. Continue feeling gratitude as you d

Hi Everyone! Pam, thanks for posting. I was just talking with my daughter, who is taking at class at Raw Soul in NYC taught by a lady who studied with Ann Wigmore, and she just learned that another way to make the rejuvelac taste better is to put lime juice in it when you start it. Apparently, this is just one of several ways that it can be flavored without interfering with the fermentation.

Thanks, Elakti -- I am definitely here to learn and am open to all advice. Inaia, it's good to know my example is uesful to you! Thanks. It is clear that to take on a radical diet such as this, we need to have a strong and specific motivation, that we can keep referring back to during moments of uncertainty. In my case, I was tired of being mildly depressed most of the time, being grouchy

I'm back from NYC now, and all is well with the leafdrinker family. My dear starfuit sang marvelously at her cabaret and as always it was a thrill to see her perform! Now she's got a good friend from Boston staying with her for the week, so forgive her if she doesn't post as actively as usual. EA and Inaia, thanks so much for thinking of me on Father's Day! I really appreciate that. I am very

As promised, today's food: Breakfast: smoothie w/lacinato kale (whole bunch, stems removed), 1 banana, 1 orange and 5 strawberries, plus a few flax crackers Lunch: hummus I made from sprouted garbanzos, tomato, celery, parsley, lime, oil and salt (roughly the recipe for "Sergei's Hummus" from the 12 Steps book", plus a few more flax crackers. Since I only ate half the hummus,

Hey Inaia, I love your attitude, and your daily affirmation lists! My wife and I have watched "The Secret" a couple of times (we also have the original version that has Esther Hicks in it), and have listened to quite a few of the "Abraham / Hicks" tapes as well. All this stuff is great! If you haven't already read it, I'd also recommend the original book that inspired "Th

Sach: thanks for the posts! I'll check out your cracker recipe. Good to know about your sprouts. I'll probably do a mixture of slightly-sprouted seeds (eg. for rejuvelac) and tiny plants like you described. Inaia: thanks so much for your posts. I've looked at your journal too, and it sounds like you're doing great as well! I love your affirmation lists. The coconut we had the other day was one

K, thanks for the recipe, sounds excellent! My afternoon soup was so delicious today that I will post the exact ingredients: - about 2 cups of dandelion green tops (the wide part, discarded the stems) - half an avocado - 1 fresh tomato - about 5 sun-dried tomatos - 1 date - 1 tbs olive oil - juice from half a lemon - half of a clove of garlic - 1/4 tsp salt - 1/8 tsp cayene - bet

Update: I'm still not thrilled with how the oats make me feel a while later. I've got a mild ringing in the ears, a slight headache, and a dull feeling -- like I felt most of the time when eating cooked food. So, revised note to self: avoid unsprouted grains. Also, like last time, I'm having other cooked food cravings now (the local chinese all-you-can-eat buffet...) I think it may be best to avo

Hey EA, thanks for the sprouting advice. I'll try it. I did actually make some wheat sprouts in a nylon bag, which worked, but I didn't like the way they tasted and they gave me a headache. Now I've got some garbanzos going, in hopes of making hummus. Your way of sprouting sounds easier than using a bag. How long do you let them grow? I've heard "until the sprout is as long as the width of t

Good Evening! When we last left this saga, I was going to have a green smoothie for dinner, which I did -- a small one with kale, apple, plum and lemon, plus more of the everpresent flax crackers. I slept well, and my breakfast smoothie had collards with grapefruit, banana and plum (plus more flax crackers). Later in the morning I had a snack of an apricot and some "milk" made from almo

Too bad about Raul indeed -- he definitely should have gotten it. Today, so far so good. (Oops, that's my thread title.) I had my usual breakfast smoothie (kale, banana, orange, strawberry), an apricot and a few almonds for my morning snack, and a huge salad for lunch (I felt like chewing for a change). The salad had: red chard, parsley, cabbage, cauliflower, celery (incl. leaves), carrots, red b

Yay Kristin! You've had quite a few good days in a row now. It is a great joy for me to be sharing this experience with you. It seems that we are both settling in to a more consistent, sustainable routine. And, I'm so pleased about your body image shift! There is more beauty to be seen in a person who is at peace with how she looks today than in any specific set of dimensions. Love, Dad.

Thanks, sach -- I'm interested to learn more about food combining. Can you recommend a good book or web site about it? I think we're moving towards being a "raw family"! My wife is having a green smoothie (mild: orange, peach & chard) most afternoons now. I'm not pushing anyone in the least, but they're seeing the changes in me and can't resist trying it too!

Thanks oneSource for your beautiful post. I love your name for me -- "Mr. Chlorophyll" makes me want to adapt the song "Mr. Cellophane" from Chicago to a raw food version. And thanks again earthangel for so consistently checking up on us all. Sorry I haven't posted on any of your threads yet. All in good time. Interestingly, yesterday's lunch gave me gas all afternoon.
