Sprouting lentils is wonderful, but soaking/sprouting beans can be deadly. There are toxins in a lot of beans, like kidney beans, that are destroyed when cooking and can result in a trip to the hospital if overdone. Not to sound frightening... but don't mess around with raw beans. Adzuki, mung, and garbanzo beans are the only safe exceptions that I know about. Stick to chickpeas, lentils, peas

It's true it is extremely unhealthy to be overweight-obese, and there is no denying that this community has PROFOUNDLY increased in the last 20 years. But acknowledging it isn't judging it. Acknowledging it could actually help it an INCREDIBLE deal, but there's a lot of "political correctness" that puts a damper on the discussion, and, in some ways, I think can leave people feeling d

One thing I DO like about this article is the fact that it mentions the "failings to a major animal--the human animal." If you consider that the body and its cells are alive and sentient, filling your body full of processed crap and essentially abusing yourself at the cellular level isn't vegan. This is extremely easy to do with processed foods that lack animal products. Cinnamon Toa

Have you have tracked your daily intake (approximately) with something like fitday.com? Do you get an abundance of minerals and nutrients in your diet, and have you been eating lots of minerals for a long time? I believe something happens during panic attacks where calcium gets burned up very quickly and that is somehow related to feelings of being unable to breathe. The body also uses more mi

HH, may I ask why particularly you fear conventional produce? I avoid it at all costs and my stomach is starting to really learn the difference (especially with greens)...

I told someone else about this and he told me about some other study where a raised-from-birth-organic family still had something like 80 different toxins in their bloodstream. Well, if you are eating organic and there is STILL that much crap in the environment (which... there is), all the more reason to KEEP eating organic!! And besides, how many MORE toxins do you think there'd be in a SA

I think some of it is... something very common encountered simply by being polite, eating raw, being cordial and not even discussing a peep about diet... some people who eat loads of garbage suddenly FEEL judged simply by the sight of seeing people do what they probably know would make them feel better on a subconscious level. It's like, I'll be sitting here, eating a bowl of salad, minding my

Well said, jalanutan. I love my internets! Gluten is another HUGE factor for inflammation, isn't it? Not to exclude meat... just to mention another avoidable nasty.

I also think that avocados are superior to nuts, in some ways, especially if trying to LOSE weight, because they're still more than 90% water. The density of nuts bothers some people sometimes. My man loves avocados, but he used to really suffer with IBS, so the density of too much nutty food can get a bit overwhelming. Never a problem with avocados, though. They're also amazing in smoothie

After I went raw and got in touch with what I really NEED to be well (I do admit intentional self-healing use of entheogens played a part in this as well... some were raw but some were boiled! ), I flew solo for about three years. I realized I was using sex psychologically in ways that were not very healthy, to distract, self-medicate, whatever, but it was ultimately not in my best interest.

You can look for "Left in the Dark" by Tony Wright on Youtube... he talks about how raw fruits and other strong medicinal plants impact brain chemistry. Not quite sure if that's EXACTLY what you're looking for, but it's super interesting. Fruit is rich in lots of flavonoids and other compounds that change the way hormones are regulated... something about the pith of citrus fruits eas

I can't stay up late anymore, either. I think it has to do with maybe normalizing your circadian rhythms a bit? In the past, when I was totally disassociated from my body, it was easy to stay up until 4am. Nighttime is also major healing time. Sleeping between 11pm-3am is the most important time for cleansing. Going raw and getting healthy tunes you into the dictates of your body. It's a go

When eating raw lasagna, rarely can I stop myself from shouting with my mouth full, "OH MY GOD, IT'S SO DELICIOUS!!!" It's totally uncontrollable. I think there's a point in mental clarity when pattern recognition becomes obvious. We are mathematical, fractal beings. The geometric beauty of raw fruits and veggies is quite obvious, sometimes even astounding (case in point: coco de mer

Has anyone here used a water flosser for an extended period of time? If so, what are your thoughts and experiences? Same with an electric toothbrush vs. a manual toothbrush? I used to have a Sonicare when I was in high school. I used it until the charger died. I always had the best dental exams. Then I had two wisdom teeth pulled, the dentist almost killed me, and I haven't been to a den

Taking any fruit on a plane is something like 100x the radiation of an X-ray (if my sketchy math skills are to be trusted), so, comparatively, the x-rayed fruit is quite harmless in light of what your body is going to get slammed with on a plane. I'd take the organic. Also, I'd take some kind of polypore mushroom tea, green tea, and melatonin before jumping a flight. They are the best edib

Adding fermented foods to your diet, granted you are healthy and not in a state of major deficiency or some kind of distress, can be an awesome source of B12... no suffering of creatures needed.

If my future children embrace the lifestyle they will be raised with, my GRANDCHILDREN will have great teeth, anyway. Oh, epigenetics! ^.~ We're exposed now to more chemicals than... ever. It's kind of an evolve or die situation, which includes evolving our consciousness to realize we need to live in harmony with the planet. Systems have to reach a maximum point of chaos before reorganizing th

The environment you're fermenting in totally makes a difference in the final product. I make kimchi religiously, and in my old apartment, three days for the jars on top of my fridge was PERFECT to get a nice, sour, fizzy, kimchi. Now I'm living with some dear inlaws, who aren't fans of having the house warm, ever, so it takes 5-6 days for kimchi to get to the same consistency. Definitel

Can't you opt-out for a physical pat down instead? As long as you're really polite about it, you shouldn't have a problem. From what I understand, those machines are in the terahertz frequency range. The microwave frequency is about 2.4 GHz... to give you an idea. Alternatively, you can load up on some polypore mushrooms (or turkey tails, according to Paul Stamets), lots of melatonin, or as

"Sometimes they wait till they see you to "unload" the truck. That's their way to connect with you." I laughed because sometimes it's too true... I think you just have to take what community you can get when it happens, and try to avoid differences when dealing with others, especially if it's not productive. My lifestyle is not open to debate... there's nothing TO debate

I'm not so sure about the integrity of the article (not the poster, love you Paul! ). Some fairly differing opinions can be found at nutritiondata.com... Grilling creates carcinogenic compounds, and microwaving creates an insane amount of free radicals. From what I understand, the higher the temperature, the less natural things remain and the more unnatural things are created. Ideally, if
