I bet it's yummy but way too rich! I wonder is there a book which concentrates on "light" raw recipes? Including deserts! I'm currently looking through d'acampo 'italian diet' (it's a cookbook but plenty of ideas to non-cook), and it's really nice to have a bunch of low-fat low-calories recipes collected together in one place.

Personally I love fasting, have been doing water fasting for several years before I learned about raw foodism. One day a week like a clock, and then occasional 7-10 days couple of times a year. Haven't tried juice fasting, mainly because what I believe I can achieve with it, I can more easily achieve it with water fasts. Which is basically giving the body a break, cleaning it out a little, and

It's an old thread, but I was wondering would not psyllium be preferable because of the arsenic issue with rice?

On the second thought, 30lbs is not that much, can't you just be patient for a while - as in yeh, I'm a bit hungry, but so what, there are much worse things happening in the world! - until you've lost weight, then you will concentrate on maintaining it.

For me personally it's a simple math - the number of calories coming in, the number of calories coming out. It will be different for different people because of varied rates of metabolism and body fat percentage, but in the end there is an equation all the same. And once you tip it one way or the other you start gaining or loosing weight. There are plenty of applications, for mobile phones and

Some googling later, it appears that some people believe that oxidation is really relevant to the shelf life of the juice, in other words if you consume the juice straight away it will not have enough time to affect the nutrients in any substantial way: "Another disadvantage is the shelf life of the juice from a centrifugal juicer. Because of the high speed required to extract juice, the

That's a good point. I guess i don't use it that much, for now anyway. I guess ill stick with magimix at least until i know better. Perhaps it's true whats people sometimes say, that juices are more for healing, while whole foods for maintaining? Hmmm this oxidation thing. I suppose blending a smoothie might be quite similar to chewing in terms of oxidation, especially if you blend small amou

What coco said above makes me feel better about my centrifugal juicer. I mostly juice roots/apples and the like, leaving leaves for smoothies and salads. My centrifugal is also of a good quality (made by magimix

Looks teeeny bit claustrafobic! But I appreciate the reviews of people that it must be optimal for small apartments etc. I wonder would you use some natural oil or similar, to make a sauna like this smell like a real wooden thing?

I've heard that people whose capillaries are situated close to the skin (if your face gets red easily apparently you're one of those), should not wash their face either with cold or with hot water. For them body temperature is the best. But if you are lucky to have normal capillaries then even wiping your face with an ice cube is great, they say it acts like a tonic for the skin, similarly to

Actually I wasn't talking about going off-raw; this thread started on 811 diet and that's what I had in mind. But it is right in the sense of going off-raw is just the same choosing a different path. Attempting to re-evaluate your nutrient intake and tweak your regimen accordingly is exactly what I mean by choosing a path. Say someone wishes to follow 811 because of advantages it offers. Then

You do feel pain, though i think it's not so strong when the nettle is young. The trick is to rub it between hands very quickly, but yes the palms are bit fire-ry afterwards! Don't know if it's true, but our parents used to tell us it's good for you to get stung by nettle

We've decided to avoid black olives at all, it seems they contain acrylamide which is not very good. This new info makes me wonder maybe it's better drop them altogether, black and green..

Yeh nettle is amazing! When I was growing up, we did not have the access to imported produce and everything was local and therefore seasonal. And young nettle was one of the first plants we'd be waiting to appear in spring, bringing in the vitamins, freshness and goodness that was so missed over the long winter months. I remember as kids we used to pick young nettle with bare hands, sprinkle s
