PINEAPPLE. I'd been craving almost nothing but since Christmas. Today, finally, I ate some and wasn't feeling it so much anymore. I think I've started with cauliflower now, though...every day for the last week I've eaten half a head at a time "mashed" in the Vitamix with garlic, lemon, miso, flax oil, and hemp seed.

Wow, Healthybun! I made the carrot cake from Ani's Raw Food Kitchen for my birthday...delish, but definitely not as beautiful as yours! What kind of cake is it? And how did you get the icing so pink?

A superpower smoothie with banana, strawberries, hemp protein powder, flax oil, and KALE! I was hyper like none other after that breakfast, let me tell you.

Weird...I knew about cashews not actually being nuts, but when I tried them soaked I reacted to them. Cross-contamination?

I am allergic to nuts as well (almonds are fine, though). I've found that you can use any seed in place of nuts in recipes, though the flavour/texture may vary. Cashews, for example, blend up very smooth and creamy and mild, so if you sub sunflower seeds in their place, you'll end up with a grainier texture and more "earthy" flavour. Just experiment...if you've never tried the original

Sounds like you're just not eating enough food! Your biggest (most calorie-dense) meal is the cooked dinner, so it's no wonder you feel more lively afterwards. Try eating more fruit, especially...veggies alone won't provide much energy.

Wow, this forum has gone kind of dead! *bump* So I'm heading to Mirasol at the beginning of February. Hopefully treatment won't be such a disaster this time around. This place sounds nice: organic local food, yoga, naturopathy, aromatherapy...much more of a holistic approach than everywhere else I've been. Not raw, but a hell of a lot better than hospital food. I need to remember that raw w

While not raw, I find tempeh to really satisfy my protein cravings, It's fermented, so still contains many health benefits. Have you tried hemp protein powder? It's low in fat yet is a highly concentrated source of complete protein.

Hi! So yesterday I strayed from my fruit-only feast and made the almond-carob pudding from Ani Phyo's book. SO worth it!!! Not like a traditional pudding in that it was slightly grainy, but still yummy as ever. Then for dinner I used my new julienne peeler to make zucchini "spaghetti," tossing it with some store-bought almond-spinach-cilantro pesto, cherry tomatoes, raw olives, and n

Hey all, So as some of you may know if you've been haunting these forums lately, I have struggled with anorexia for about ten years (I'm 23 now). I recently relapsed and was just released from the hospital, during which I had a naso-gastric tubefeed and an IV against my will. I have been mostly raw for about a year, and now more than ever I want to 1) cleanse my system of the corn syrup and ca

Wow, artwings - I feel like I could have written your last post! Long-lost twins, perhaps? I've had anorexia since the age of 12; I just turned 23. I was just released from a 2 1/2 week hospital stay, during which I was on a 24/7 naso-gastric tubefeed and IV...I was put there against my will, and now I'm back to raw with a vengeance. I couldn't wait to cleanse my system of the "nutrition&qu

Thank you all so much for the insight. Fasting/cleansing is probably not the best route for me right now, being that the cause of my hospitalization was anorexia, and I still need to gain weight (a cleanse would most likely have the opposite effect), which is why I wanted to do it for only a couple days, rather than a couple weeks. Tomorrow I'm going out to a raw food restaurant for dinner, so th

I was in the hospital on a naso-gastric tubefeed and IV for 2 1/2 weeks. The "nutrition" going into that tube was anything but: second ingredient was corn syrup, third was canola oil (the first was water). Not organic, not whole, certainly not raw. Now I want to cleanse my system of this trauma. I was eating a raw diet of mostly fruit, some veggies, and some seeds, plus occasional cooke

I don't know where in Canada you are, but I'm in Vancouver B.C. and found raw carob powder at Choices. I believe Capers and Whole Foods carry it as well. Maybe check obscure little "health food" stores too...sometimes those places carry the more hard-to-find products, although they may not be as fresh.

A lot of people say that using lots of cayenne and ginger helps warm you up. I don't find it particularly effective, but hey, maybe it'll work for you. Me, I just spend a lot of time in front of the fireplace!

Great thread; thanks for starting. I'm gonna throw myself out as an example of orthorexia. I have been raw vegan for about a year, vegan for 5 years before that. I was healthy as a vegan, but going raw resulted in me losing weight to the point of extreme ematiation (and I do mean that - I'm not simply "thinner that SAD people". The difference here between my situation and that of any

I know I haven't been very present on this forum lately, but I just wanted to let you know that I will be even less so for the next little while because I've leaving for Arizona on Sunday. Going to a place called Rosewood (I'm too "medically unstable" to go to Mirasol...really screwed myself over with that one). Hopefully after I'm what's considered stable enough I can go to Mirasol; it

Try soaking some buckwheat for a few hours (or more if possible), then drain, rinse well, and blend with fruit/agave/maple syrup, cinnamon, and salt. Seeds/nuts if you want. Viola! Raw porridge. Really nice in winter. I like it with hemp seed milk and sliced fruit on top.

Try the recipe from the book Ani's Raw Food Kitchen...okay, so I only made the filling and ate it as pudding, but I'm sure the crust is tasty too!

Just a quick one here...sorry I've been absent for a while. Looks like I'm heading off to a place in Arizona called Rosewood (my BMI's too low for Mirasol, but I plan to go there from Rosewood ASAP) for treatment. I don't want to go, but my health is at a point where it's now or never, and I can't seem to pull myself out of this hole on my own. Their minimum stay is 30 days, so I figure I can alw

It's simple, but I crave bananas. When I take a bite of one, I am immediately soothed. Maybe it's the carbs?

I'm mourning the end of local peach season here in BC. I was putting them in green smoothies with banana all summer long; before that it was berries with banana. Now I'm at a loss for what to put in my green smoothies that I am so addicted to! Here's my thing: I NEED banana in the morning, but combined with a lighter fruit; pears and apples are too heavy with banana, and I don't like frozen fruit

I also agree that fresh, whole foods are best; that said, I do consume spirulina and hemp on a daily basis because they feel good to me. Without them I feel spacey and have less energy, I'm not so on the ball. Just kinda sketchy. I take about a teaspoon of spirulina a day, 1-2 scoops of hemp protein powder, and I sprinkle hemp seeds on my salads. IMO, we should ideally be eating that which is

Custom - cilantro is FANTASTIC with pineapple! I was really nervous about using cilantro in a smoothie but it's now one of my favorites! Pineapple, cilantro, and a bit of celery...mmmm...I also saw a recipe in the One Lucky Duck e-mail (oneluckyduck.com) for a smoothie that had pineapple, grapefruit, cilantro, mint, and cucumber, I think...see if you can find it anywhere. Good luck!

Hey all, So I spent a lovely afternoon in emergency today. Saw my doctor and she pretty much commanded me to go in after seeing the results of my blood tests and EKG - apparently not so hot, but the hospital told me that other than my heart rate being a tad low, there was nothing to worry about. That being said, today was a real kick in the ass. I HAVE to gain some weight, regardless of how I
