The thickness and amount of juice in the fruit as well as the dryness / humidity of the air will determine the time. I would make them as thin as you can slice them and dehydrate them overnight. Then in the morning, flip them over while you are gone to work. I haven't dehydrated a lot, but most things take a minimum of 12 hours but most, more like 24. Fruits have a lot of juice and take longer. I

I agree with smilebig. When I was committed to eating 100%, I went 12 days being 100% raw. THen I got the idea that being high raw was just as good and gave myself permission to "cheat" a little. I wasn't really even craving anything...just decided I wanted to have a few old favorites. For me, that mindset was a slippery slope and I kept sliding down it for a whole week. Today I'm back

In Dr. Graham's book (80-10-10) he says that you should if you were lying in a hospital bed, you would need a minimum of 10x your weight to sustain your body in calories... 120 lbs / 1200 calories a day. Then you need extra calories for your level of activity/exercise, 200-300 for those who are sedentary, more for active. Although this isn't an exact science, because everyone is different, it is

My raw desserts get eaten up by my non-raw family faster than they can spoil. But most are good 3-4 days, 5 at the max....but would depend on the ingredients. Would you share your recipe for the chocolate pie. It sounds REALLY good!

No, Juliano was not there. In fact, one thing that was funny (and I don't meant this in a racial way at all...it is a California thing), all the food prep was being done by Mexicans. I asked my husband if he thought they were raw or if they ate their tortillas and beans when they went on break. If you live in CA, you'll understand... Topday I am feeling quite SWELL!!! I do think the heat and w

Yesterday was lovely. My husband took me to a raw food restaurant in Santa Monica (Juliano's) and it was fantastic. My hubby isn't raw and he loved it! Then we spent the rest of the afternoon walking Venice Beach. I was so full and thought I would lose some weight. I walked over 10 miles yesterday, but my weight is still up today. I am still PMSing and hope that is part of the weight gain. Dewey

Sweetie...start slow...eat what you enjoy. Just focus on incorporating more fruits and veggies into your diet and filling up on those. Set small goals...ones you can live with and feel good about. I started with mostly fruits (because I don't really like veggies)...and ate either fresh fruit or made smoothies. Salads are easy to add...just make them bigger and fuller with variety. That should get

Dewey...this is in reference to your question about soaking nuts and seeds... when I first started out, I soaked my sunflower seeds and I couldn't tolerate the taste or texture. The other day, I soaked them and then dehyrated them overnight. They were crispy and tastey. I don't know if you have a dehydrator or not, but it worked great. As for nuts, I don't really eat them for a snack and only

I soak mine and put them into a smoothie, with the "soaking" juice and all. After soaking and then in the blender, the break up.

I was gone almost all day Saturday so it was fun reading up on everyone's posts this morning. As a child of the 6's and 70's, I grew up with hippies. Although I've never been one, I'd love to burn my bra. It's just a pain to wear one! Does anyone have a definition of exactly what a hippie is? I think I might become one since I've been conservative all of my life. Since I've been raw, my son call

Regarding the "feeling bad"...your body is probably quite confused about what it is getting and doesn't know what to do. Your blood sugar should stabilize with eating fruits, but then you throw it a Snicker's Bar and it goes into overload...a sugar rush and then a crash. No wonder you feel bad. You can be 50% fruitarian, but the other 50% needs to be healthy...not junk. You will have so

Yes pam, I try to look at the overall picture. I started on raw June 1, in varying degrees, but for most of that time I would say I was high raw. I know that during this "time" of the month I am usually very hungry and full of cravings. Even though I am not 100%, I am still eating vegan and much healthier than I ever have in my entire life... and not only my eating, but also the daily e

Well, I'm still waiting to see what is going to happen this month. Nothing yet except cramps. Thurs. & Fri. they were pretty intense. On Fri. I had 5 servings of herbal raspberry tea that has the raspberry & raspberry leaf in the ingredients. I seaped 2 tea bags, let it cool and had it in my morning smoothie, then I had the othe 3 just with water like tea. In about an hour the cramps were

Do you have raw potlucks in your area? There are none here. The first raw food restaurant I went to was in Huntington Beach. It was called Good Mood Food Cafe. That is where I had my first raw pizza. It was really good. At 118 Degrees, they raw tamales (yum) and this hemp quesadilla that I just love. However, I like my raw desserts better than any I have tasted out, especially the cheesecake reci

Don't have a source...but I've heard some say that frozen are healthier because they are "flash frozen" as soon as they are picked, whereas "fresh" travel by truck and sit for weeks sometimes on shelves. I believe it is true that as soon as something is picked, it begins to lose nutrients, but don't know if anyone has actually compared nutrients. Would love to hear the results

Its funny because on the kibble, she is hungry and wants to eat hours before its time for me to feed her. The chicken seems to keep her full longer. She is driving me nuts...stalking the refrigerator! This is just too funny!

I freeze my kale and put it into smoothies (the only way I can tolerate it). Doesn't alter the taste any and I still get my greens.

I don't know what corn curls are...but I bet they're about as healthy as carrot cake! We live in Laguna Niguel, but our church is in San Juan Capistrano. I didn't know you were so close. We moved here a year ago ( I go to school in Costa Mesa) and will move on next May as I'm hoping to get admitted to a PhD program next fall, but won't know until March or April. Do you ever venture out to an
