I am not denying that just like with anything one can become pathologically obsessed with health-conscious eating, but since when the decision of individuals to eat healthy foods and avoid unhealthy ones is a dis-order??? Here again the media is scaring the general population of becoming interested in healthier eating habits by identifying the same as a dis-order. Just my opinion...

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate everybody's thoughts and opinions. Tamukha, you are right, I am not committing a cardinal sin, thanks for giving me that perspective. I really think I should choose raw instead of cooked just because I tend to be able to get back to my normal raw easier and don't feel as "guilty" as with cooked. Superinfinity, yes you are right fruit binge sounds

At this stage of my raw journey I have found out that the only way I can stay high raw is by having "raw binge days". I struggle with emotional eating and I realize that the issue should tackled from a different side, but for the moment I am dealing with it by allowing myself to eat anything as long as it is raw. Generally on these days I have 3-4 avocados, dates, and fruits without pay

I don't think hellokitty is worried about gaining weight but rather maintaining her weight (not loosing). If you limited your fruit intake to 10% it wouuld be impossible to get your caloric requirements from veggies only so you would end up compensating with lots of nuts and seeds or go back to cooked. What is Paul's reasoning behind this method? Just curious.

From what I understand, a lot of "muscle" on people with SAD lifestyle is water retention due to the body striving to dilute the toxicity produced especially from excessive protein consumption (common especially in ppl who weight train). So if the above is correct, you have not lost any muscle but water.

Tamukha, Yes,yahoo meetups has been an awesome resource for meeting other vegan rawies in the area, it's just nice when it happens inadvertently. LaV, marsh, pakd4fun, you are right many times I have found out as well that my positive and accepting attitude towards SAD influences how am I received. Still with all of the fixation on animal foods in this world even without trying you cannot

It is so refreshing when you meet somebody that is open to the concept that it is perfectly OK to eat foods other than SAD and not get all in a defensive and threatened mode. Unfortunately the area I live in seems to be predominately populated with the latter ones and I have arrived at a place where I am very hesitant to disclose more than absolutely necessary about my diet just because I am tir

well I just opened up the second one that I picked up from the asian market the other day and it was delicious the water was so sweet and went so nicely with my strawberries I had for dessert, this one actually had meat in it although not a lot but it was good consistency (gelatinous). Comparing the two coconuts (one was bad, one not) I think that the bad one felt softer when pressed and also up

I rarely buy young coconuts and recently haven't had much luck with picking a good one. The one I got the other day- the water tasted off and there was absolutely no meat in it nothing so of course I tossed it. Is there anything I should look for when picking young coconuts as to ensure they are not moldy, rancid, etc? Thanks.

Dogs are omnivores and you might choose to feed your dog a vegan diet. There are several vegan dog foods on the market or you can prepare his or her meals at home. However, I would suggest you do your research on dog nutrition as to make sure yo are making an informed decision.

My dogs love cucumbers, cauliflowers, cabbage, tomatoes but their all favorite veggie is sugarsnap peas. Favorite fruits are plantains and watermelon.

Major slip up here this winter. Finally after 12 days of water fasting and 1 week juice fasting I was able to get back on track. EZ rider you are so right about saying no to cooked alltogether. I realized for the first time in my life how addictive cooked foods can be. Painful experience but definitely have learned a lot from it.

Musicbebe, Square foot gardening per Mel Bartholomew is the way to go for organic gardening. However, I would be wary of using railroad ties - because much of them are treated with creosote to keep them from rotting. You don't want creosote soaked ties leaching into your soil and thus into your veggies and thus into you. From wikipedia - Health effects of coal tar creosote Acc

Thank you all for your words of wisdom and support. I guess taking things slowly and making sure that I do not feel deprived is the way to go. This has been quite a growing experience for me on several levels since I do have the predispositon to have "all or nothing" attitude.

I have posted recently about my struggles with staying 100% raw and cooked binges that I have been struggling with. I thought that maybe I am suffering from Seasonal Affective Disorder which I still believe has a part to play but recently have noticed something interesting. I decided to think back on my raw journey and figure out what dietary changes I have made that I can relate to my difficulti

Thanks all for your support and input. EZ rider I know that saying NO to cooked is the only way to go at least for me because I know that once I open the door I tend to indulge and lose my path. What makes me upset is that only two weeks ago I did a 5 day water fast after a similar binging episode and was able to get back to a mode of feeling cleansed and light and started my regular raw schedule

JUstin and Therese, Thanks so much for your inputs and resources. Therese, I have been looking into possibly purchasing a SAD light box. I am curious if any of you have info on its safety.

I have always been affected negatively by lack of sunshine/time spent outside/cold weather but this year it has been exceptionally bad. I have had trouble staying raw and am struggling with episodes of cooked binging I know lot of this stems from my mild depression/lack of energy and overall lack of enthusiasm as related to S.A.D. I have opted not to visit a health professional regarding this si
