For all his money, power, and influence, I would hope that he could do more. But this is a step in the right direction. I am still waiting for the tv networks to flood stations with vegan commercials.

Jprindtl, you are always asking for evidence as to why your choices are worse than what little we know to be best. But when you are confronted with what we know is best, you act as if it does not apply for one reason or another. There aren't any groups of people known for their longevity who indulged. Zero. Sue, removing heat does not cure all problems with the diet and it does not make ex

I love fat. By taste alone, I could eat it all day, but it does make me feel heavy, decadent, and afraid that I am wasting calories that would serve me better. That the CR people in Luigi Fontana's studies had some superior biomarkers compared to the raw vegans impresses me. They are more interested in optimization of energy intake. To them, there is more to the ideal intake than not using hea

Durian would be a good base, too. It's relatively high in fat. You could blend just about any nut/seed or avocado with just about any nut/fruit. A lot of people were doing chocolate pudding with avocado, coconut nibs, and dates. Just put it in the freezer.

I didn't hear it. I read it in a paper by the Gavrilovs. >but there's no evidence that low-fat diets are directly responsible for extended lifespans. Actually there is. All of the centenarian studied populations had low fat diet. Also, the number one killer, heart disease, is reversed on a low fat diet. If you were really interested in health and not paleo broscience/nonsense that on

This is about the best evidence there is: Pretty strong correlation. That is not to say that this and only this is causal. Nobody can say such a thing. But it's another measure or predictor of lifespan. Despite all the lifestyle tweaks, it still helps a lot to pick the right parents. But we have a tendency to get excited about the tweaks because we can't pick our parents. You

It probably is the food. Exercise + weight loss: no significant change in telomere length. (free paper) Ornish's group lost the same amount of weight as these women, exercised less than these women, and unlike these women, had significant telomere protection.

If you read the paper you see that they weighed each factor and diet had the heaviest weight; mediation/support and exercise are not null but not nearly as important.

The closest they have come to this is with animal studies. In one they did not use raw but they did compare a purified diet to a whole-foods diet. bad diet yielded 3x as much breast cancer about 2x as much liver cancer about 1.5x as much colon cancer about 6x as much ovary/uterus cancer Ref: Newberne and Suphakarn, Nutrition and Cancer 5:107, 1983 I don't think anyone can cla

Well, I recently contacted a respected ophthalmologist who is convinced that this is not due to diet. He says that people who have good vision in late age have one or more of the following: * small pupils * a difference between the eyes such that one is better for near vision and the other better for far * mild myopia to start with * mild astigmatism to start with He says that the lens

Or cheat, or miscalculate your intakes. Underestimating intakes is chronic among people trying to lose weight or gaining without wanting to. The only way you can know for sure how much these people are eating is to lock them up in a metabolic ward. In that context, people tend to lose or gain exactly what is expected. I became aware of kcals when I was around 12. I assimilated that

I agree, it seems impossible with only unlimited sweet fruit. But they are advocating unlimited cooked carbohydrate after 4 pm so it is easy to go overboard on the potatoes, rice, etc. I seriously doubt than anyone gaining weight is doing so from raw unprocessed fruit only.

My issue is not the potential for health hazard. It is the monopoly, the monoculture, the loss of genetic diversity, and the profit making. It's certainly no good for the planet and not good for the people. We would do better with small-scale farmers and a riot of different breeds of plants, not the clone cultivars that we eat over and over and over again. Good food should be available

They are for me. I don't know how people get joy from eating 10 heads of romaine as a monomeal. For me there is joy in the variety in colors, flavors, and textures. I like to put 30 or more different types of plants and non-sweet fruit in mine. It's very decadent if you ask me. I post my meals occasionally around here. I always like to see what other people are doing for their salads, too.

It says "..shows large variation from subject to subject following strikingly well a log-normal distribution with the highest concentration in patients with inflammation (Kawasaki disease, IBD). These findings could lead to a revision of our view of degradation and absorption mechanisms of nucleic acids in the human body." I read some of the animal studies,

I had always been a big salad eater but when I made the transition I made them gigantic. They are my main meal, taking about 45 minutes to an hour to consume. Sometimes I have two of them in a day, if I get a really delicious bunch of salad vegetables. The quality varies, but on the good days it is really a treat. I also started eating fruit salads. I eat as much fruit as I want with a handful
