unsweetened and unsulfured, it can be a nice treat. as a basic, daily part of the diet, nah. actually, i'm not a fan of dried anything except for herbs.... i like my fluids to come from my foods, so taking that part out is not ideal for me. i soak my dried fruits sometimes too... so enjoy if you would like, but like the candy they taste like. i love dates, but we only have them as a rare

About a month and a half ago, maybe 2 months, i got a horrible pain in the right side of my jaw. I have a wisdom tooth that never emerged there, so figured it might be making it's way down. after 3 days, i finally went in to have it checked out b/c i could barely open my mouth (thank God i love smoothies and juice), and the dentist had no idea why it was in such pain. he didn't believe a wisdo

had lasik in 2004, before making a lot of life decisions i've made since. i would probably make a different decision now, but have to say that i've LOVED it. absolutely thrilled with the results. i still have my close-up vision for reading/jewelry making, but can see anything i need 20/20. no regrets. and i have life-time updates, but hope to not need them now that i'm so much healthier!

based on a daily consumption of about 2 heads each for my kids since early may, i would say dandelion heads are edible.

i love the myth that when people ran around in the sun (up until the 1980's) they all died of skin cancer by 35. Cause all the native americans, indians, africans and pacific islanders all died by 35. until sunscreen and umbrellas. we have plenty of evidence people lived long full lives with sun, and without. i like the sunshine, but I'm greek, and we tend to live long, wrinkly brown lives

we're blessed- moved into a couple of acres that have been organic for at least over 30 years, and maybe forever. the smaller greens are far less bitter. the big ones i've found elsewhere and outside are really really intense. i'm 1/2 greek though, so i was raised hunting down dandelions in the yard to go with dinner. thanks for the link, juicerkatz. our flowers are definitely dandel

if the nuts are traditional store bought nuts, those will not help- even if they're raw, they're usually rancid, moldy and cause bloating b/c of this. i'm going to jump on the greens bandwagon- greens greens greens. cucumbers are also really making me happy this time of year (organic or washed pickling cukes cause they're not waxed) and try cutting out the bananas for a little while- my

thanks Paul- usually i soak my grains until they're sprouting, so that might affect things, but i can alway soak into sourdough after milling too- it just would be a different style.

i used a waring centrifugal for a while, and have to say i went w/ Omega (i think it might be 8001 or 8003, not sure) and haven't regretted it- easy to use, does greens wonderfully, exceptionally easy to clean. no complaints- i love my Omega.

this spring, before breakfast my two little ones and i would go out and collect tiny, fresh unflowered dandelion leaves to juice for our morning smoothie. it's too bitter for me when it gets larger- i tend to avoid them. but granny smith apples, romaine lettuce, cucumber, celery and a carrot or two can help. i drink it anyways- probably like people drink whiskey- with a shudder, and a warm s

Thanks Wheatgrass Yogi- i was curious about that. buttons do seem easier for many people- and it has the larger carafe. neurosport- it would't be near 'customers'- it's an old dorm kitchen and i would have it 'behind the scenes' hanging out near my omega, and maybe another omega, at my secret juicing/raw foods station. it's not a raw foods event, though i provide raw foods at every meal, a

oh- just saw the dentist for the first time in 4 years. they used 'dental pumice' instead of the paste (per my request that whatever they use be verifiably gluten-free) and that dental pumice was indeed baking soda. i've used a baking soda/sea salt/clove/cinnamon mix alternating with just a brush and water, or tom's of maine for the last year, and just brush or tom's of maine for the last 9

raw jicama is used in 'sushi' rolls. i bought raw nori wraps and jicama today. if it turns out well, i'll let you know- i've soaked rice for a very long time, making what seemed like poisonous alcoholic mixes sometimes, all without accomplishing sprouting, or anything close to edible. wild rice can be soaked and made edible, but brown rice resists my efforts. i've settled for makin

hey all- i've had an oesterizer blender for going on a decade now, and alongside my Omega Juicer, found that things worked great. my blender would turned soaked grains into batter, and mostly make a smooth smoothie.... kinda. but it wasn't a big deal. now i'm running a kitchen for 30 days in July, serving between 50 and 250 people a day over that time, and i want to invest in a piece of equ

my 4th sauerkraut experiment just went to feed 'our little helpers' (as my 4 year old son calls them) in the compost bin. i'm sure they will be thrilled. it wasn't inedible, just way to potent for me. i don't like to gag over my food. play around w/ the kombucha, over time i think it grows to understand what you like, and you understand it. we like tangy and super bubbly kombucha, and that

i kept my Champion even after getting my Omega b/c it made nut butters beautifully- i love macadamia and brazil nut butters. but walnut, almond and hazelnut all whipped up beautifully in my Champion. i can make almond flour in my Omega, and with walnuts, after putting through four or five times it will make oily/buttery substance. same with almonds. if i were to start making nut butters

why do pets require yearly vaccines when the theory behind vaccines is to deliver life-long immunity? (or a facsimile- such as a 3-5 year immunity) why doesn't any bring this up?

just struggled w/ this question, as when i first got my dog i didn't know about vaccines. but after two years of her testing 'positive' for lyme, getting full round of treatments, and then more vaccines and having the vet mention that if she tests positive 3 years running, she's probably just showing a high immunity to it... WHAT? so after 3 years of not taking her to the vet, b/c she wasn't

lol... i make kombucha pretty tangy. that's the word i learned when first hanging out with crazy raw foodies- tangy is a nice word for anything overripe, funky, weird, or fermented. my take on kombucha is if it makes you feel good, then drink it. if it tastes bad and you don't feel amazing on it, stay away. i've been brewing the buch for over 7 years, and it comes and goes in phases. eit

there's also 'water kefir' using the same kinds of kefir grains in sweet water- making a soda type bubbly drink. you can flavor with vanilla bean, or fruit.

sixxmum- congrats on going raw with such a crew! i had the juicer first b/c it has so many purposes, and was raw for 5 years before getting a blender (still no food processor or spice grinder in the house- i do have two mortar and pestles) my husband is totally into all the raw now, and when i'm juicing or blending for the kids (at least 2x a day), he whispers so sweetly in my ear "

beautiful- i think it's that she's into green smoothies, and juices carrots, but doesn't have experience with masticating juicers. just wanted to make sure i wasn't missing something huge. Thanks all! off to juice my breakfast- cucumber, 3 carrots, romaine lettuce, parsley, and celery. Oh, there was also the comment from her that green juice isn't good cause it spikes blood sugar (per h

quick question- when i juice my kale, i use the stalks b/c i figure they've got nutrition and i don't want to waste anything (as i'm juicing for 5). for a while i did just the leaves, but figured the stalks wouldn't hurt the juice (and it doesn't in flavor). had some people staying with us and one girl who juices was like 'um, you're not suppose to use the stalk.' like it was bad. i was c

i love my omega. bought it in 2004, have replaced a few parts (auger, blank), and have absolutely no complaints. i want a back-up champion for certain recipes (found one along the way and passed it on to budding raw-foodie friends, can't be greedy) and have a very simple citrus juicer and blender. and i use them all multiple times a day. which i think is a good sign! and though carrots
