Hi, everyone! ) I am in the market for water filters for my shower and sinks in the bathroom and kitchen. I already have a filter for drinking water in the kitchen, but it goes through a seperate dispenser so I am still washing my hands and the occasional dish in non-filtered water. My main concern is the shower filter...I know there are a lot out there and I would like to know which ones y

I don't wear foundation anymore; my skin breakouts were related to what I was eating. I am switching all makeup I have to the Beauty Without Cruelty brand, and I have heard Eco Bella is good so I am going to try it as well. I use the Avalon Organics brand of skin care, and it really is fantastic!

I know what you mean about the "thug life" on the streets! HaHa! Red and Harley act they own our neighborhood. I will try that dehydrator recipe; it sounds good! Harley and Red LOVE carrots so much, if I let them have all they wanted, they'd turn orange. I know some people say not to feed them any veggies or grains, but the amount I let them have in proportion to their raw meat is mi

Hi, Yogini! ) I gave up coffee when I did a full-body detox about two years ago, and I am doing one now, and the best thing for the transition off coffee for me is dandelion tea. I make mine with almond milk. It has no caffiene, and has a similar taste to coffee, in my opinion. Of course, if you are going completely %100 raw right now, then the dandelion is not for you, since it is roasted.

Thanks, Mira! ) I did try some tonight...not too much because I'm trying to detox and switch to raw at the same time, so I'mafraid it willl be too much fat for me right now (I'm eating at least one avocado a day)! It is very voloptuous on the tounge! MMMMmmmmm!

Hi, Minny! ) First of all, I think the suggestion of contacting Sproutpeople is a good one. Search the website and you will find tons of info on sprouting; I haven't read their solutions for things like e.coli, but I know they are experts on sprouting. Here's my method: I use a few drops of Nutribiotic GSE (Grapefruit Seed Extract) all-purpose liquid concentrate in the water for soa

WOW... sunshine79, that is a very scary but extremely important story that you shared. I never realized that some raw foodists might be deficient in magnesium. I have known about the link between magnesium, potassium and heart attacks for years because my grandfather was an alcoholic. Eveyone thought he would die of cirrosis of the liver but he was in his doctor's office, ironically, whe

Hello, coco ) Maybe some people in your area would like to use your extra compost for their gardens! I was composting apartment-style for the last two years until I moved into a house, and a few people I knew used my extra composted soil for their planting. phantom, here are some online guides I used when I was setting up my most recent kitchen compost system. These are mostly for non-worm

Hey, I've got a question for stoner and all others who spoke of eating spoonfuls of coconut oil... I just got a JAR of oil. I ordered it from my natural foods market and it was advertised for hair and body care but on the label it says "Good enough to eat". When I opened it, it was thick, and the label also had a serving suggestion of placing it in a tub of warm water to liquefy.

Hi, Liz! ) I'll bet there are some good vegan restaurants in NYC- I have found some here on the NW coast where I am now that also serve live food dishes. I like to get out to one of them once a week and try something new. I have also discovered that most large cities have raw food social groups you can find online and hook up with others to exchange recipes and such. Good luck with it!

Hi! ) Good luck on going raw...I'm finding that all of the new recipes I am discovering through this site and others on the web, and experimenting with different raw foods myself is making it fun. I am originally from the Gulf Coast area....it's so beautiful. I can't wait to get down there again and go to the Keys! Cheers! Marley

Hi, LaPieta! ) That is very interesting information! I have a friend who suspects they a might have Crohn's, and they also have thyroid issues, so I will direct them to this thread. I am so happy to hear that you have been in remission for so long- is this beacuse you have been raw for all that time? Also, would you be so kind as to share the title and author of the book you referred to?

Hi, flipperjan! ) What a great question! The first book I read about the benefits of raw food was "Enzymes: The Missing Link To Radiant health" by Humbart Santillo. In the book, he explains that we are born with a certain amount of live enzymes, but as we age, those enzymes are depleted from our bodies, and that leads to all kinds of degenerative disease that is regarded by today

Hi, flipperjan... ) I love wheatgrass! For me, in particular, it has a wonderful effect. When I have been in situations where I could not grow and juice my own, I have used a powder greens mix such as Alkalive Green by company in the US, ph-ion. But I believe it is best to drink it freshly juiced, as soon as possible after juicing, which is why I have paid, as MauiGreg above have mentioned

Hey, everyone...Hi, Stoner! ) You've started a great thread...thanks to all who posted the great information on coconuts and coconut oil! I always loved eating the mature fruit or the shredded meat of the coconut as a kid but it wasn't until I learned about the benefits of raw food that I realized the shredded coconut one might find in a regular grocery is probably cooked, and of course,

Hi! ) I am currently using organic soil to grow my wheatgrass, but I am going to change to a non-soil medium soon. Many growers use a hydroponic medium, and there are some inexpensive options out there for that. If you have a hydroponic supply store in your area, call them and ask what they would recommend. Here is a page online from a very good site by Pamela Free that covers the issue:
