Fresh, don't confuse the mass produced candy bar with real chocolate. If one can find some without the dairy and sugar, its probably ok to eat in small amounts or moderation. If one can obtain raw chocolate that isnt overpriced thats even better.

I am approaching my 1 year Anniversary of being vegan! I told myself at any point that I don't like it, or if it becomes 'too difficult' I can stop.However...that hasn't happened! I love it! Although I am not raw, I do find that without really thinking about it, produce has become more appealing, especially with the hot and dry summer days where I live now. I will have a physical with lab wor

I heard about those, and that seems like a wonderful fruit. Never ever even had a chance to buy one. It must be something one has to grow on your own.

I once bought some fresh dates from a chinese store. They tasted like apples. I remember asking them if they were date dates, or 'chinese dates'. They just said they were dates. I think they were chinese dates. Otherwise called jujubes, and in dried form are used in chinese medicine. They were good, but I was kind of disappointed because people kept telling me that fresh dates were so heavenly. I

BJ, I suppose I am an experimental vegan, or a nutritional vegan. I haven't done much other than eliminate dairy and meat from the diet. I try to eat whole foods. I know some have eliminated products that are not so immediately obvious as coming from animals, or that has done harm. Something about some steel products, perhaps some flour products which indirectly require some animal power or produ

Banana who, Corny is great! I never thought of those things, but it makes sense. For the last two months, I had some processed food I think 4 times. Once was because a package wasn;t immediately clear about the contents. Most products are whole foods, but suddenly they had one product which wasn't, and it was not immediately visible. Until I opened the package. Another time I new before hand

128. 2 months
I am approaching about the 2 month mark since trying vegan. A nutritionist was on the radio talking about this. This is about the time that an energized person following a particular 'diet' will revert back to whatever is the predominate pattern of food consumption in the area. I was skeptical of that, but my partner pointed out that he is getting tired of going to the three places that have

I had white vegan kimchee today. That was good, and surprisingly low sodium. It seemed to hit the spot, my partner however is having some digestion problems from it.

I agree with Storm. I was just going to ask if this is a joke. I think this person is seriously pulling a lot of peoples leg about supplements or something....

The people there seem to think a person will not absorb enough nutrients on a raw food diet. They also seem to think there is a difference between chemicals in cigarette smoke and cooked foods. Also that these by products of heating don't mean anything.

Are melon seeds edible? I have heard of watermelon seeds being edible. What about cantelope or muskmelon?

Yes, I know of some fruit and berry seeds which sprout better after being eaten by an animal. The digestion softens and removes a hard seed coat. But the germinating part of the seed isn't digested like the outer coat. I can't think of any seed which is fermented before sprouting. Its possible that stuff around it might ferment, but the seed might survive the decomposition that was going on aroun

Purslane is a great source of omega 3's. I have seen perilla seed oil being sold somewhere as a good source of omega 3s. In korea they eat the leaves, I have had it in kimchi.

Wouldn't true fermentation of seeds prevent sprouting?

swimmer, I forgot to add that I used to be able to lip read as a child. I thought everyone could do that. But later in life I lost the skill, because I didn't think it was important or useful.

Swimmer, Well 'toxic' isn't quite accurate either, but perhaps closer. Animal fats tend to have more nasty stuff in them, but as for the lipids themselves general western nutritional models don't classify them as 'toxic'. Only when its causing some sort of health concern when they are overconsumed. At what level, who is to say. But generally people seem to have problems with consuming animal fat

Great input everyone! I don't know what to say to her. But I suppose one cannot say anything to someone that doesn't want to hear the information. Her latest response was so avoidant of the issues I don't want to bother, and maybe thats best. Its on a comment section below a you tube video. Someone was saying why they weren't raw and vegan any more. Just so you know its not on this forum. I m

141. 'Toxin'
I recently started a conversation/debate with someone online about raw foods, veganism. Its curious, I never thought about it. Maybe raw foodists and vegans don't use the same terminology as everyone else. 'Toxin' "an antigenic poison or venom of plant or animal origin, esp. one produced by or derived from microorganisms and causing disease when present at low concentration in the body.

I am having a discussion about salt with someone online. She contends that salt cannot be said to be a 'toxin' as salt is essential for health. Although one can consume a toxic amount of salt. Is it proper to refer to salt as a toxin?

Does anyone here consume raw vegan kimchee on a regular basis? I love kimchee but haven't had it for a long time. I know the sodium content is high, but is there a way to make it low sodium, or at least lower sodium? Another thing I thought about today is clover. I have eaten fresh clover leaves I grew myself in a container. I really love them, but its probably has a lot more fiber than peopl

Storm, Thank you for your response. I feel so listened to with the completeness of the response. I consume only fermented soy milk at this time. Maybe not the best choice, because its cooked for one, but also many people say soy isn't any good. I started it with a soy yoguert from whole foods, and just continued the strain from batch to batch. Maybe there is a better milk to use? I haven't t

I am a bit confused about this, because some famous raw foodists suggested that fermentation was a bad thing, something to keep a limited consumption on. Perhaps I am misunderstanding, because of Gaberiel Cousins "Rainbow green live food cuisine". Phase 1 is low sugar, but also no ferments at all. Is this because people on regular food are 'composting' already? But maybe we need som

That is curious, as there are so many claims made about various supplements, foods, herbs or practices that are promoted as having longevity or anti-aging claims.

La veronique, I had to take it out and look at it better. I handle it almost everyday, but I never looked at it closely. Its actually kind of a dark purple-ish brown, but there are some small flecks of green that show through in the cracks. There are a few nice little cracks. Two of them make it look like a bow and arrow. Maybe a small face. I would have to look at it under a microscope to see
