I want to buy a Vita-Mix, but see that there are several sizes and models available. Can I get by with a 1200, or should I consider a 4500 or even a 5000? What do you think about yours? (If you can share a green smoothie receipe, too, I'd appreciate it!) Thank you, Love, gimpy

Bryan, Thank you. The reason I wish to include more protein is that when I eat exclusively f & v I tend to store fat more quickly around my waist. I am trying to find a balance which works for me that allows me to eat all the fruit I want without getting too pudgy.

Wow, Arugula, great stuff. Thank you for sharing. I had forgotten about how the fiber will adjust the GI of foods. I am going to look up more info about the methionine restriction as you suggested. Thanks - gimpy

Hi Bryan, I am asking you specifically as I respect the format of your answers; quite well thought out and backed up as well. I want to make my transition to a raw food diet but it's so hard to let go of the stigma of having to have protein with each meal, or it will turn to fat. An old bodybuilding mind-set. How can I achieve health and happiness through fruit & greens without worrying

Hi all, I just watched on ABC's news tonight about the 37 MILLION pound beef recall, all due to CRUELTY to helpless cattle at a slaughterhouse in California. I've been sobbing ever since. Although I've gone veg/raw on and off the past year, this was my calling card. I can no longer turn my head to the cruelty. Please, tell me what your average/normal diet consists of. I can't even fathom

I love your suggestion about home-made gel. What else could/should one consumg while running? The thought of carrying a bushel of oranges during my long runs in the woods sounds too difficult. But, gels and the packages of honeys no longer hold an appeal. Thanks! gimpy

Been eating mostly raw, and feel wonderful! But since I've eliminated the excess protein and fat from my diet I've gained 5 pounds, when in fact I could stand to lose about 10. Very discouraging, and out of desperation ate a bit of chicken at dinner last night. Not surprising, I was up all night with hives, didn't vomit but felt I might! BIG mistake! So, now what? I KNOW I'm doing what's ri

I like to add the juice of apple, lemon, and ginger to my green smoothies. Yummmm!!! The ginger aids digestion, and adds a funky, clean flavor.

My 'achilles heel', if you will, is cookies. Absolutely NO willpower. I can ambush a full-day's good, clean eating if a co-worker brings in cookies to the office. Any hard-core practical advice to leave them alone? Thanks! Love, gimpy

Thanks, Uti. Yes, apples are quite popular around here. I think the idea of asking others at a farmer's market is an excellent idea. love, gimpy

Bryan and Arugula, Thank you for the guidelines. I'm going to start a log today; not to try to measure calories like I'd done previously for weight-loss but to keep myself from grabbing yet another handful of nuts every time I pass through the kitchen! love, gimpy

Thank you for explaining things, in a nutshell. Very direct, which I appreciate. Can you give me an example of a 'junk-food raw diet' so I can avoid these pitfalls? I've noticed lately more acne than usual, & I'm wondering if I'm over-compensating the lack of meat in my diet with poor choices. Thanks! love, gimpy

Definitely too few calories. Your body may be slowing down its metabolism to protect what little you're giving it. Try lifting weights - HEAVY weights as they build beautiful muscle tone (NOT bulk). Muscle does fabulous things for the body, plus the metabolism stays high for 36 hours after you finish lifting. Only have to lift 20 minutes or so, but HEAVY weights. Sweat! Then eat something n

Hello, I'm new to the wonderful world of raw food. 3 weeks without meat and day-by-day reduction in my reliance of cooked foods is leaving me feeling unbelievable! In an effort to educate myself I've been reading everything I can get my hands on. However a book about Macrobiotic diets frowns on some foods which I thought would be excellent; things such as avocados and citrus fruit. I am curio
