Let us know WY. I just planted some lettuce as week ago... in pots on my deck. Used really expensive organic soil from Whole Foods. I'm thinking it would grow high brix plants. Can't plant in the ground around my place due to the lead from the paint. I live in an old place, the outside had lead paint at one time.

The calcium discussion is interesting too. I didn't know about wheatgrass or clay for calcium! I had heard about kale and sesame seeds, but had forgotten about the sesame seeds, and didn't know that they needed to be unhulled. I wonder what one does with sesame seeds, other than just sprinkle them on things?

Hi everyone, Thanks so much for your answers and special thanks to Juicin John for the answer to my specific questions. Turns out my uncle has acute myeloid leukemia and Gerson doesn't recommend their therapy for acute leukemias. My uncle has also unfortunately been told to stay away from raw fruits and vegetables, due to the bacteria, since leukemia patients are prone to infe

Thanks WG, nice to be back. I've seen hemp/cotton bags, maybe these would work? The pressing does seem like a lot of work for someone who is tired and ill.

I should point out that I came to the conclusion that blending seeds and nuts in a blender isn't a good way to go, due to oxidation that occurs with high speeds used in blenders. Blenders are also not so good for grinding grains due to the oxidation. If I make nut butters it will be with a low rpm juicer. As for grinding seeds, I haven't figured that out yet but probably a manual see

I ended up buying the Breville BBL600XL blender. Before buying I wrote the company about whether it will chop and blend nuts and seeds. I haven't tried it yet but here is their answer... >>> Thank you for contacting Breville USA!!! The blender will chop seeds. Depending on the type of seed you can get consistency from dry and powdery to pasty. Nuts are no problem for this blender,

Hi everyone I'm back. My uncle just found out he has cancer. I'm looking into Gerson therapy. They recommend the Norwalk, or the Champion with a separate press. But I'd rather have him get the Greenstar than a Champion if it will work with a separate press. The Gerson people say that ground carrots & apples etc must be mixed together BEFORE being pressed (due to chemical reactions that o

No, sorry, but just to add to the coconut oil conversation... Just remember that moderation is always a good idea. I've found coconut water to be very health promoting, but can only handle smaller quantities of coconut oil. I have one of the books touting the health benefits of coconut oil - the author makes it sound almost a cure-all for just about everything. The book is very

Thanks for the article. I head read that raw agave isn't really raw somewhere before too. Interesting that fruit contains sucrose & glucose too, apparently; I thought it only contained fructose. I'll need to go check that out.

Thanks la veronique. DDo you think the fruit attachnment is worth it, or could you get by just using the green juice attachment instead for most fruit juice?

Just realized I missed that this is for three 24-oz bottles. So 705 calories isn't so many calories, after all. Interesting comment by Jeff - 80/10/10. Good to know.

la veronique, You are so inspiring. I like that idea of using the Greenstar with the homogonizing blank instead of a blender. Probably less oxygination & heat. I've been thinking about that. Isn't there a fruit attachment you can get for the Greenstar? I wonder if that would help with adding more fruit? I wonder if the Omega 8003 could do green smoothies too.

Hey Veggiefreak, How's the Vitamix 5200 going? Enquiring minds want to know. I just bought a Breville blender yesterday. I haven't tried it yet. I'm kinda sad I didn't buy the Vitamix (grass is always greener...). But I did save about $300. I could always change my mind and get the Vitamix instead LOL I'm sure you'll be happy with either the Blendtec or the Vitamix.

PS, Don't worry about asking questions. I'm sure I'm driving everyone crazy in my quest for the perfect blender. At least I know I'm driving my friends and family nuts, if not the people here (probably people here too).

Veggie, You asked Wheatgrass Yogi but I may be able to help a little. I think I may have given you the impression the Omega 8003 is a twin gear. It's a single gear dual action. My guess is that carrots are probably a little easier to juice in it than in a Greenstar, but you would probably get a little more juice from a Greenstar. You are right, I'm pretty sure Wheatgrass Yogi did sa

Bruce, Good luck with your raw goals. I am taking it quite slow myself. What I really appreciate about this forum (besides all the knowledgable help choosing equipment!) is the lack of judgement on people who aren't completely raw yet, as we try to transition. Thanks again for the information on manual seed grinders. What I really was wondering though is if there is a smaller manual grinder

Veggie, Turns out the VitaPrep-3 does indeed have a dry container, in addition to it's regular wet container. But please read Baltochef's message under the vitaprep3 question. He more than answered my questions about whether it is worth it to get the dry container.

Bruce, Thank you sooooo much for taking the time to write such an informative message. That is so helpful. But of course now I have more questions. Would making nut butters and hummus work well in a Green Star or Omega 8003? Seems like that might be the best lower heat method, if it works. Can you use a hand crank grain mill for seeds? Is there a lower heat way to grind seeds than with

Very interesting discussion. Thanks Ferg for being honest and answering the question. I was wondering why anyone would eat raw meat myself. Please be very careful with that raw meat eating though, seems so dangerous. Dr. Mercola is an online personality who advocates eating raw meat. He got very sick on it.

I've been looking into these things too. It all depends on what you want to juice and what you want to blend. Some types of juicers are best for vegetables and leafy greens. Others are best for carrots and apples. Yet others are best for citrus. If I was buying a juicer (I don't own one) I'd go with the Breville 800JEXL Juice Fountain Elite as being the best all around juicer for the best

Another VitaPrep 3 question... Does it have a separate dry container? Vitamix question - is it worth buying the dry container or would I be better off using other appliances for dry stuff (coffee grinder, food processor, mandoline, etc). I have a very small kitchen, so less is definitely better. (Maybe I should start a new thread for this one).

I know what you mean about following your intuition. I craved orange juice for years, and had to take the EmergenC I mentioned from time to time. Now that I've started eating a lot more fruit, the cravings have diminished and I haven't needed as much extra vitamin C (so far). I just needed to eat more fruit - the apple a day on my SAD diet wasn't enough! I especially like Lee's advice. Go

I'm no expert, but I'd make sure you are getting enough zinc. If you feel a cold coming on, take extra zinc (lozenges are best) and extra vitamin C (but not necessarily together). Seems to help me. I swear the "EmergenC" brand C & mineral powder cures anything. I take several packets a day if I'm coming down with something and it usually knocks it out. But maybe it's allergies
