yes, funky... the claims about saturated fats being bad for health apparently stem from those earlier studies not discriminating between saturated fats & trans-fats. the lauric acid in coconut oil & cocoa butter is the saturated fat that gives the tendency toward solidity at cooler temperatures. but i would never put them in the same category with the other saturated fats that are fou

what do you mean by fattening, taylor? i find them very satisfying -- i eat them with pecans, and together they taste the way pecan pie wishes it tasted... the combo if very filling & satisfying. i never feel like i've overeaten them.

i agree with funky rob & sodoff... and after a cursory view of gabriel cousen's info on the flu, am impressed. will definitely read more carefully. live life, eat live, be happy, be real, dance... the world is full of unsavory characters with well-organized ill intent for the masses. letting fear take hold feeds right into their agenda... but being happy & sovereign creators of our

holy cow, arugula! thanks for the data. how do i go to dr. duke's database directly? the link didn't do it. and what association does that database have with ars-grin.gov? cococream... from whom do you purchase your dates? i go through so many, it would make sense to buy them in bulk. still hoping others have more input...?

i NEVER consider calories in the raw food i eat. never. it doesn't matter to me. if you're doing this because you want to lose weight, all i can say is that i went from an 18/20 to a size 6 in 7 months without dieting, just by keeping my raw consumption level up around 85-95%. keep it simple and don't sweat the details is my advice, mama -- just keep including more of the live foods that ma

am wondering if anyone else has experienced this... it seems to me that the pigment of my skin has deepened in the last month since i started consuming jumbo medjool dates w/ pecans on a daily basis. i've noticed that i look like i have a tan, and a couple of my colleagues have remarked as well. which i definitely do not. my olive complexion this time of year tends toward the sallow, yet my sk

kenji, why do you think that the nuts & avocadoes are "too fatty" or unhealthy in excess? just curious -- is this a residual belief after a lifetime (like the rest of us) of cooked fats, or is there a particular belief system about raw foods that you have (such as natural hygiene)? personally, when i eat live foods i don't have any other consideration other than they are raw, cle

yep, experiment, keep things simple, and eat what makes you feel good. is there anything under the sun that *can't* be argued? feels healthiest of all to be at peace with one's own choices...

i bought a meat cleaver for the specific purpose of opening my young coconuts. i first shave off an area at the top, then i whack a circular around around the crest and pop it open it like a soda can (a raw vegan soda! yay!) when i whack the coconut, i'm partial to resting the knife on the nut and whacking the nut onto the counter (or better yet, the tile floor) rather than to take my big k

i've influenced my mother, who is always inspired to ramp up the raw after i've visited her. and my oldest son, who is 19 -- he makes his own smoothies and when i ask what he wants to eat, he often says "whatever you're eating". nice. my youngest is 16 and he loves green smoothies but won't make them himself. my neighbor started making green smoothies now & then. and i've

yeah, am big on young coconuts, too... if i can't find them in my local supermarkets, there's one place that will order them for me. so worth the extra effort!

wishing you a full recovery, rawlife! i had systemic lyme disease myself, so i know something about that experience. you have been on quite a journey... i did not take antibiotic therapy -- my path toward healing primarily involved working the mind-body connection to enhance immune function, and i eventually brought in nutrition as well. but i made a full recovery... so don't give up hope,

hey, arugala... this sounds great. i've got some raw cranberries at home right now -- may try this for supper. rawpipstar, i've been sipping on a smoothie all day made from mango/kiwi/clementine juice/cranberries/spinach/coconut oil & himalayan crystal salt. absolutely de-lish! not bitter at all, and incredibly "zing-y"!
