Thanks. I went to those lists... it has mashed potatoes high up on the list! I thought white potatoes weren't good for ANYTHING! Is that wrong? and I am ashsamed to say that I hardly eat any of that fruit listed. It had bananas at #1, which I always put in my smoothies, but I hate eating raw. I don't eat anything else till you get allllll the way down to apples. I thought dried fruit was t

Hi, everyone. I am looking for a trusty brand of magnesium supplements. Also, a list of food that contains high levels of magnesium. I'm not looking to over do it... but I want to make sure that I spend money on the good stuff. There are a lot of crappy supplements out there, and I want the real thing! Thanks!!

We talked about this briefly in my anthropology class. According to the lecture, humans actually began to grow quickly, and develop coherant thought/language/culture after eating meat. Meat--as we all know--provides certain amino acids all in one place, which doesn't happen often in plants. There are a few amino acids that the human body doesn't produce itself; those have to be supplemented, o

i completely agree. it's 100 degrees outside right now, and about 32 degrees in my office! i go through herbal tea like crazy, and i go outside whenever i can. i love to eat chilled, raw food, but find it so unappealing in this cold environment. and it's stagnant in here, too. hot spicy things, and herbal tea. i can't wait to get a me-friendly job!

oh, and grow your own basics, like sprouts, parsley, cilantro, and basil. they're expensive to buy, but so versatile and easy to grow. so cheap that way!

I'm a full-time student and I work 30+ hours a week. From the time I wake up until 10pm, I'm out of the house. I'm not currently 100% raw, but I did spend 10 days doing a 100% raw project, and I still eat mostly raw during the days. Here's what I do: I eat smoothies or fruit for breakfast, both of which are inexpensive--especially if you use filtered water instead of juice or nut milk in your

well, that's good to know. my boyfriend adores mushrooms (i hate them), and we are trying to eat raw foods for dinner. i think eating cooked food late at night makes us sluggish in the mornings. raw food makes me more alert. the teacher who made mushrooms said something else i'd never heard: that peanuts take 7 years to digest! has anyone else heard that? i know most raw people don't use pe

I went to a raw food prep class, and the teacher served up guacamole on top of a giant portabello mushroom. I don't know if it was meant to be a "burger" or what; it wasn't bad. But...I've heard that raw mushrooms are bad for you (unhealthy/unsafe, I mean). Is that true?

i just thought i'd let everyone know how my project was going, since some people seemed interested. i haven't gotten too far on my research yet, since there aren't that many academic resources dealing with raw foods (or even veganism, or vegetarianism for that matter). i'm mostly just dealing with feedback from people who eat raw foods, or from news articles talking about the diet itself. i di

I was just wondering...how much of a role has the internet played in your raw food lifestyle? Personally, I came across "raw foods" four years ago online. It took another year for me to actually run across a raw-foodist in person; 2 more years for me to meet a second. It seems like any kind of raw community I would have would exist solely online. Is that true for most of you?

hi, i am doing a 10-day raw "experiment" for a class. when i've tried to "go raw" in the past, i got pretty sick. some people said it was a toxic liver. i'd like to take milk thistle during these 10 days, then, for liver support...but i've hear milk thistle can interfere with birth control. is that true?

thanks! it sounds like everyone feels and looks a million times better just by eating raw foods. my mother is skeptical that a diet like this would do much for her since she already eats "healthy" (organic, vegetarian). i believe raw is something altogether different, though i don't really know anyone (personally) who has gone through a radical change via raw foods. it's wonderful t

thanks everyone! so far so good! i am hoping to become a fully raw vegan myself some day, and your answers are only helping to convince me. i love hearing about your lifestyles and jobs and everything. it's very helpful! by the way, my teacher considers a "subculture" to be any group of people with shared beliefs/habits/traditions, which is why I mentioned "liberal" and &

Hi, I am required to research a subculture for my anthropology class, and have chosen to delve into raw foods. I am going to spend 10 days eating only raw foods, and am also interviewing the raw foodists I know. However, I dont' know many, and would like your help in filling out a questionnaire. The answers will help me give an accurate account of the raw-food lifestyle, as well as helping
