@Tai The cost is coming down considerably. From a wiki article on the topic: "Going from roughly over $300,000 to $11.36 in just 3 and a half years. This cost is now only 9-10 times more expensive per pound than standard ground beef." I think from a health point of view, it's difficult to say right now. Of course, they could make it lean, but there is the issue with it s

Thanks for the comments so far! @riverhousebil It's just cultured stell cells or progenitor cells - not a "thinking animal". The adult stem differentiates into myocytes and other types of cells when given growth serums and nutrients. Apparently, even PETA supports it. You can see more on it here Cloning is a completely different issue.

I'm very interested in technology and how it can minimize the suffering of animals in the future. Personally, I don't even like the taste of meat, so artificial meat isn't that interesting to me, but perhaps it's progress in a sense, as the world moves more towards veganism. So, I'm doing a bit of research for a blog post, and I'd like to hear some of your thoughts. I just want to get a genera

The sad fact is that for the majority of people, they have decades of chronic disease up until their death. It's not like this for everyone, especially those on a traditional Okinawan diet for example... but happiness can easily erode when your quality of life plummets. A healthy vegan or raw food diet should significantly prolong healthspan (and even lifespan) so that most of your life is spe

Why not? Extra Virgin Olive Oil is good for you anyway. And it helps you absorb the lipid-soluble compounds in a plant-based diet. I think I shared a study on here before showing that vegans / raw foodists have very little lycopene, despite getting plenty in their diet. It's because of the lack of fat in the diet. Lycopene is very good for your health... and appearance / attractiveness. Olive

Over 12 years ago when I was 18. I'm so glad now that I started relatively early compared to most people. These days, more people are starting earlier, but back then it wasn't such a big thing.

I'm not surprised about people being banned for disagreeing. I heard a long time ago that this is how they run their forums. I think people should just be sensible and do exactly what Prana said: listen to their body. Just eat until you feel content, but not overeating to excess just because you think you can. Even if you can, it may not be such a good idea in the long term. Also, I'm surp

Yah I know, the price is quite high. It does last me 6-7 months so I don't mind too much. I'll get around to making my own serum eventually, it doesn't seem too complicated. I experienced post inflammatory hyperpigmentation when I was younger and had marks left over from it... The CE+Ferulic massively improved my skin. The diet stopped the acne, but red marks were left over. Also Ascorbic acid

Hi, arugula I'm really happy with what I use, and have no problem using it. I've always had issues trying to find a good skincare regimen, but skinceuticals products seem to love my skin, and I love skinceuticals!! lol I use "PHYSICAL FUSION UV DEFENSE SPF 50" - but mostly in the summer since I rarely get any significant sun in the winter months as I am working all day or being a

@arugla The sunscreen I use on an off contains Titanium dioxide & Zinc oxide, which do fairly well protecting against UVA and UVB. Harsh studio lights and extra makeup could do that. I'm not sure, I could ask him... :p Sorry, I recorded it on a the DVR a long time ago and uploaded it. David looks pretty good, though. I won't share a picture without his permission. No matter how many vegetables or fruits someone takes in, you're not going to prevent all the damage caused by the sun... But you will probably lessen the damage a bit. So if you care about staying young-looki

Hi! Glad you like it! Luigi is 45 years old and doesn't really follow a CR diet or raw food diet. His diet is a Mediterranean diet. He grew up on a farm and had a decent diet for most of his life, but no protection from sun damage. He travels around a lot and gets a lot of sun exposure -- it's pretty evident just by looking.. For anyone that doesn't know, Lugi was based at WUSTL in the U

It's true that much of the intelligence, skill, and talent someone develops is because of how they were brought up from a young age. Our personality is set very early in life too (around 5-7 years). And then there's genetics... Improvements in mental clarity is an obvious improvement when eat a healthy diet, but it's not going to make someone a genius. There are cases that changes in the b

My friend visited Emma and said she was doing really well for her age! There's only like 5 people alive now that are from the 1800s - isn't that amazing!? One common thing among pretty much all of these "supercentenarians" is that they stayed lean all of their lives. Whether it's genetic or through diet, it doesn't matter. Being overweight kills people earlier. GRG looked into La

Hey! I remember you. Thank you! I'm happy to be back. Sorry for disappearing. Around the time I was posting here I woke up one morning to find my adsense had been disabled by Google. It obviously depends on the ingredients. Ideally you want to not put an insane amount of fruit in there because that'll spike your blood sugar, which is NOT good. I tend to eat my smoothies quite slowly. I've been drinking them for years and they do give me energy and good mental clarity. Cavities? Just look after your teeth, brush them? :p @Exeggutor Certains strains of bacteria can h

Hi Fresh. I'm understanding your point, and you're somewhat right. The quality of the diet certainly does matter - as is shown in human studies and animals studies (even the monkey studies show this; the NIA monkeys ate a more "natural" and healthy diet compared to WNRPC and lived far longer). But you're missing the point that limiting energy intake triggers a genetic response which

I spent quite a bit of time to write a review of the data on humans and rhesus monkeys. If you read it, you'll see it's not straight forward and there are lots of things to work out still. But the fact is this: humans exhibit the same 'phenotype' on the diet as rodents and other animals that have their maximum lifespan extended - monkeys do not, for some reason... possibly the way the studies

Actually it's a bit misleading as I had already explained in review of the two studies (Wisconsin & NIA). The NIA control group monkeys were calorie restricted by 10% (Okinawan's ate 11% fewer calories fwiw). The difference between the calorie intake of the groups dwindled down to almost nothing during the study. They had major issues with the study... 4 of the CR monkeys lived passed 40 y

Now I know not to waste my time responding to Anon. If you don't read the studies, what's the point? :p You should not have such an emotional attachment to any diet. It's in the best interest of everyone to be honest and take into account the actual evidence so people can practice this diet properly and safely.

@Fresh Well, fruit has plenty of glucose, especially bananas. In fact, there is equal amounts of fructose and glucose in fruit. 5.0 g and 4.9 g per 100 g Banana (there's also a small amount of sucrose). Figs have 22.9 of fructose and 24.8 of glucose per 100g Sweet potatoes only contain 1g and 2.5 per 100g Fruit DOES produce an insulin response. Now imagine the response from jugging do

I read the books on the Okinawan's and have studied their longevity for a few years. They were practicing calorie restriction for about half their lives. Over the years there's been a steady increase in caloric intake from about 1539 k/cal in 1949 to 1927 k/cal by 1993. So, the longevity of the Okinawan's, even though impressive, probably would be more pronounced if they had stuck to their origi
