just want to say that what worked for us in terms of fasting at one period in outr lives may not be what our body needs or craves the next time. fasting is wonderful and amazing but what you need to fast on or will do well fasting on can vary with your spiritual development, the season you are in, what you have been eating up until the fast, your emotionalwell being, and your physical state of he

Cynthia, Do you own any raw vegan cookbooks? A good place to start would be buying a good raw recipe book that has some interesting bread recipes. Most people on this board have used the onion bread recipe by Matt Amsden in RAWVOLUTION and swear by it, so you may just want to tell your family that while the smells many not quite be what they are used to, don't judge a book by its cover. th

as someone who has been in the raw scene a while before it exploded in about the year 2000 into the Hollywood, faddish, hip way to eat for beauty and and glow, i miss the old school. i do think the commercialization of raw food has leached some of, if not a lot of, it's hippy-vibe of love and peace which is what essentially what made me whole. it wasn't the doctors preaching the value of an enzym

I eat a slice of raw pie or a few raw cookies when really intense carb cravings hit. I avoid eating anything made with stimulants like cacao or coffee, I don't like the way they make me feel and found raw carob treats to really hit the spot. My all time fave is in Nomi Shannon's "The Raw Gourmet" book. Her carob truffle balls are soooo simple and so delicious. I make a batch and store

i hate psyllium, particularly if i have been eating very "cleanly". I can taste it in foods and it hurts my stomach. I don't see how it's authentically processed raw either, regardless of whatever raw genius annointed psyllium a raw food product. Flax seeds ground up can be used to firm things up and if you are open to a slight semi-cooked percentage in your raw dish many, many raw foo

I wonder if that's the diffe

There is an oil blend called Woman's Essential by Barleans. You can buy it at Whole Foods or a good health food store. It's a mix of evening primrose oil and flax oil and it's specifically for balancing a woman's hormones and health. And a holistic GYN nurse-practitioner I went to recommends taking the herbal tincture Vitex for hormonal imbalances that relate to women's menstrual/GYN issues.

hi all The amounts of fats I'm refering to is not part of the high fat movement of raw foodists. I'm not saying people ought to eat 4-5 avocados a day plus jars of nut butters and coconut oils, slathering oils on their salads and constantly munching on fistfulls of nuts while eating high fat gourmet raw recipes. no, not that at all. I'm refering to taking in measured fats medicinally and judic

a totally non fat raw diet has beeen documented by many raw food physicians (real M.D.'s, not online Ph.D's ) and traditional M.D.'s to lead to fatty acid deficiency in the long term. This has happened to a number of pure raw food eaters I know. It is very B-A-D. It leads to things like severely dry skin and hair which does not respond to moisurizing, scabby skin lesions on the face and body, ecz

Hi Bracken. One of my favorite raw food teachers in the city where I live adds small amounts of tofu and tempe in the cold winter months to his diet while the rest of his diet stays raw and he goes completely off cooked foods and 100% raw in the summer. He is super healthy and active as well as a yoga practitioner. He has been living this way - 95% raw in winter and 100% in summer, for 25 yea

Kelly, Why don't you try sprouting some mung beans, red lentils, and garbanzo beans? I find that when I need to feel "full" amd don't want to eat as many sweet fruits these proteins help keep me feeling satisfied. I also try making hemp protein powder shakes with unsweetened almond milk and I add fresh or frozen berries rather than sweeter fruits like dates, bananas or mangos. you can

islandgirl, i have mostly found nut bags online but occasionally good, well stocked, old school health food stores and/or raw food restaurants sell raw food accessories and supplies. You might want to try calling around your area and asking the managers. A high end gourmet housewares store might sell them too under the name "fine mesh bags for cooking (food)" or something to that eff

Hey Mama Cass, I have had similar allergic reactions to grains too! Except I also had uncontrollable sneezing, flu-like symptoms with fever and bone chills if I ate certain ones everyday and pus filed blood shot crusty eyes every day too. ...one more thing on Rooibos tea.. You can buy the Rooibos tea grounds loose by the pound in many gourmet tea and coffee and specialty grocery shops. It comes in many, many flavors and a few raw restaurants where I live serve it on their menus which is how I got into it. Check out their web site. I think it is Teechino.com It is made from carob, nuts, fruits and natural extracts. peace love joy i breathe in i

I don't associate catagorizing threads with prudishness. That is not what I wrote. I am associating the fact that the moderator removed *my* very vegan and appropriate thread from this forum list when there are countless others posts here, if one is to be truly exacting, that really do not belong on this forum, but would be more suited to another. The only direct association I could logically co

Bryan, It had to do with eating a strict vegan diet and one's personal preference in choosing a mate or partner who was vegan also. Our discussion was on our thoughts and feelings about having a raw vegan love interest in our lives, why or why not. It *definately* was on point and relevent to the raw vegan lifestyle. It certainly was w-a-y more raw vegan discussion oriented than say, the curre

I do not understand why the "VeganSexuals" thread I started was moved. It was about being a raw vegan. Connecting with others who are or may not be vegans and our opinions and feelings about living and dating others who are or are not raw foodists and vegans. This list often has insane topics posted that seem barely relevent to the raw vegan's every day life - and they are *never* m

HarryT, Almost all raw recipe books include a section on recipes for juicing. Some sections are a bit broader, some more simple recipes, others more complex. I would suggest thumbing through a number of raw recipe booksin your local book store and checking out their juicing chapters. See which combinations of flavors sound tasty and appealing to you on your journey. Buy the book that resonates

Has anyone, particularly those who live in densely crowded cities like NY,NJ, San Francisco, etc.,, experienced any bug/insect problems with dehydrating? I have not used my dehydrator since I m

I have made a carob fudgy icing, not quite a frosting but still really tasty and a great nut free way to frost things... from raw carob powder ( i'm sure you could use cacao if you chose to), agave and coconut oil. I have also used agave, lemon juice and coconut oil for a lemon icing. And and a strawberry icing from both fresh and dehydrated strawberries, agave, coconut oil. You could use raw
