Hi Khale, I was totally interested to read your thoughts and observations. The discussion begs the definition of Freedom. I bet everybody has a unique vision of Freedom. Mine includes Peace. I believe compassion towards all living things is an essential ingredient of internal and worldly Peace. However, I acknowlege that I have trouble exercising compassion, even for members of my own fa

I don't think it's really fair to malign Coconutcream-or anyone else for that matter- because of what she beleives or who she admires. My guess is that each fruitarian is unique, and as a group it seems to me that raw vegans subscribe to a wide range of political, spiritual, and cultural beliefs. Although, I admit, I challenge some of Coconutcream's pronouncements. Each of us is a comple

I concur, Lightform. And I really like the way you put it. The tricky part seems to be learning to love everything.

Coconutcream, Do you truly believe that philosophy to be true? what do you think about the unemployable elderly? Are they less than worthless now they don't make a buck? What about stay-at-home parents? Their labour of love, raising the next healthy generation, is unpaid. What about people who experience debilitating disabilities? They may not be able to participate in the work force; ar

I agree with Bikini and Venusian. The times I crave carbs are when I am sleep deprived or when I lack sufficient protein in my diet.

Dafodil and Mosaica, You guys are so right on. I consider the tea part of my diet because I drink it a few times a week (without regret). Sometimes I find it edifying to examine the "technicality" aspect of food as it pertains to the raw vegan diet. I try not to let it stifle me so much as inform my decisions.

Hi Sleeping Star, Life is a journey, enjoy it. Your dietary choices are part of that same continuum. It's OK if it takes you awhile to get there. Enjoying yourself as you go is important. Eating an ideal diet at the expense of loving yourself isn't worth it. And it won't help you want to be raw. I agree with the wise words of Aquedecoco and Davidzanemason. I'm not 100% either. I only

Perspicacious! Great word and I had to look it up. My dictionnary tells me it means "Having mental penetration or discernment." I bet that's a complement Jadedshade.

I have wondered about this myself. Lately I have determined that the teas I drink are medicinal locally mixed(I don't know where they are grown) and organic, thus an acceptable part of a raw diet. I do add stevia to my tea. It must be highly processed because it comes in the form of white powder. I can't really justify the stevia-but I use it anyway=)

Hi Jennifer, In my town(Victoria, BC) we have great public libraries that have a number of raw cuisine books. I used those before I decided to buy any. Not all dried beans are created equal- I have had the best experiences sprouting organic dried beans and seeds. I have had no success with rice, however I may not have tried the right type. You may find that eventually if you consume enou

I am interested in this discussion of free will. How can I be sure that I am exercising free will? How do I know that my subconsciousness isn't influencing my decisions at any given moment? I do know that I do not maintain awareness acting with compassion for all life in each moment. This, I believe, is an enlightened state. However, whether or not free will determines our choices, I blieve

I disagree that killing the way human beings do and to the extent human beings do is a necessity. I believe the natural human condition is to peacefully co exist in nature as a part of the ecosystem. When humans diverged from our true essence of honouring all life around us and began efforts to control all life around us we started down this path of unrelenting destruction. There is a way back.

I ate Brendan Brazier's fruit flavoured Vega for about two years. I think it tastes great. It does seem to have a lot of processed ingredients and I finally had to quit because although it boasts being soy free, it contains a derivative of soy to which I continued experiencing allergic reactions. I called their customer service number to verify my suspicions (because I loved the stuff so much

Hi everyone, A couple of months ago I posted that my husband was diagnosed with level 2 prostate cancer. Last November his PSA score was 4.3 which prompted the need for a biopsy. In January the urologist informed us that he had a Gleason score of 6 which means the cancer was contained, but removing the prostate was strongly encouraged. We scheduled the operation for July 20th. Two months

Hi Miss Joan, I buy Raw Law Tahini. I don't know if it's organic cause I can't read most of the label as it seems to be written in arabic. It is imported from Lebanon and it contains NO titanium. My husband and I eat about 1kg per week. We buy it from a local Mediterranean specialty store. I think it costs around $8 Cdn. If you are going to make your own, I suggest adding some raw sesam

Hi Ccourad, I think Greenie is on to something. At some point during the day when things are peaceful and you can have your parents' attention, try initiating some open ended genuinely curious dialogue about their concerns about you adopting a raw vegan diet. Talking to one parent at a time might help you find out what their individual perspectives are. Taking the approach that you want to w

Wow, I love reading about everybody's experience with feeding their children. This year my daughter asked for fruit salad (bananas, watermelon and strawberries) to share with her class at school for her birthday treat. She turned 9. Yay!! Apparently the kids loved it. There is a certain amount of nutritional awareness at the kids' Montessori school. One of the moms is a herbalist and manag

I like the way everyone can be honest on this forum. At some point we are all going to hear something we don't like or can't face, but the intention of the writers here seems to be imbued with genuine care. Sharing our differences respectfully is important to the growth and development of the community. Interesting that even within such a small social sector as raw vegans there is a plethora

Peisi, From what i can see of your pictures, you are beautiful! I don't know what you see in your head as ideal... but from what I can see you look svelte and sexy! How do you FEEL? There are excercises to target different parts of the body, ie thighs. Personally your thighs look great to me! A hard bony body (supermodel style) could be less fun than you think. Inner glow, magical

I totally agree with Greenie. Alive, you rock, I am going to take your grandmother's advice to heart. Crones are so wise. Peisi, peaceful, loving and honest communication and actions (such as it sounds like you are practicing)while maintaining your principles and self respect is a lot of hard work- and so worth it in the end. You go girl! Beware; the following is a bit of a rant...

Pakd4fun, you rock! =) Thanks for the website info. I echo your sentiments exactly. Daisyduke, your actions are inspiring. Homeschooling is an increasingly popular choice for families here (Victoria, BC) and consequently becoming a more accepted idea in society at large. Every bookstore has at least a few books on the shelf about it. Have you ever read any John Holt? Learning, living a

Dream earth, I'm curious if you have children. Accusing people who ban violent media and video games from their homes of beating their own children is a strong and unfounded statement. I personally take offense. I beleive as well that ultimately the responsibility for our children rests with the parents or guardians, however my point is that no one lives in a vacuum. If you are convinced

Feeding our children healthy, organic raw food is a huge challenge even for aware and involved parents. If the option to homeschool is available to a "nuclear intact" family, the ability to feed the kids raw, organic, vegan/vegetarian is optimal. However think about all the configurations of families out there. So few of us have control over our children's environment. For insta

Bryan, do you have any suggestions for ripening kiwis? It seems to take forever for them to soften. Sometimes they shrivel and wrinkle instead. As to favourite fast food, we like frozen ripe bananas blended with any other frozen ripe fruit and fruit juice. When our bananas get ripe i peel them and break them into chunks which i put in a container in the freezer. Instant "ice cream&qu
