I have to say I'm a big fan of yours, David. You have such a great approach to life! The thing you said about having a goal other than health (what you want health for) changed my whole perspective in a really positive way. And this thread further inspired me. Thanks a lot

Hey cy Acre only knows 2 seasons: wet and dry We've just entered wet season so it'll probably rain almost every day from now till april, usually in the afternoon or early evening. For this reason we call this period winter (even though it's technically summer). Humidity can be as high as 100% so yeah it's super humid. Still, I adore it here. People are simple and genuine and the natural envir

Hi Michelle I'm in Brazil too - Acre to be more specific. I think I'll be eating for free all summer Everybody seems to be giving fruit away there's just so much of it. Except for some native people who still live off the land (and in the jungle) I'm definitely the only raw fooder in town.

kwan, I'm going to join you in your juice fast to see if I can rid myself of cravings. This past weekend was really hard... I went out to dinner with friends (to celebrate a birthday) and everyone around me was having deliciously smelling cooked food like eggplant lasagna with rich creamy sauce, stuffed baked potatoes, etc. I miss hot food so much that I almost gave in. I hope to eventually

Ok, thanks guys. I feel good on fruit, but I'll try to increase the amount of greens in my diet just to see if I feel any better.

Try aerobic exercise. I don't own a car so I either walk or bike ride everywhere and I think this helps a lot in keeping me focused. Read this: Exercise Grows New Brain Cells

I'm so glad everyone is doing great on conventional produce! This morning, on my way to uni, I stopped at the fruit & veg market and bought lots of stuff to eat throughout the day - all of it came to less than 4 reais, which is equivalent to less than 2 US dollars. Conventional fruit is cheap! I'm so happy to be completely fearless of them 12 beautiful bananas were roughly 25 US cents!

Thank you everyone, I really feel much better. Coco, haha, this guy is a well regarded professor, all the students suck up to him so bad, I bet he's never been called a moron before. I loved it that you were the first! Still laughing now. Goes to show that credentials don't necessarily mean the guy is smart. Karen, great info, great links. Thank you! And David, I hope I have the same exp

The reason I ask is because one of the lecturers at my university (who always gave me a hard time about being vegetarian) said that now, eating raw, I'm even worse off than I was before when I ate mostly beans, rice and cooked legumes, because of the pesticide residues that are acumulating in my body. Maybe I'm impressionable but I got really scared.

If you had no money to buy organic, would you still consume regular produce or would you change your diet?

I made a tooth powder last week from very burnt toast, dried sage and peppermint oil (mentha piperita). It smells nice, like regular toothpaste (I put a few more drops of oil than the recipe recommended). It was scary the first time I used it because my teeth started to become black while I was brushing (from the black powder) but after I rinsed they were all white again. Very nice.

I recommend water fasting and rest until it's gone. That's what I did some months ago when I had tonsillitis - it worked nicely. The second day was the hardest because my throat was so sore and swollen that I could barely swallow water. I mostly slept. By the end of day 3 I felt good, and on day 4 my throat was completely healed.

A crystal stone for deodorant... that is infinitely cool! ) When I read your post, ferg, I thought crystal stone was a brand but then I googled it up and saw that people use actual crystal stones for deodorant. I assume they're man-made from special mineral salts, right? Because if any old crystal stone will do, I will go outside and pick one up right now ha ha. I live in the northwest of Brazi

Hi Ever since going all raw I've been feeling this urge to replace chemical toiletries with natural ones. I read somewhere that you can use clay mixed with baking soda to clean your teeth, but I don't know how effective this is. Does anyone here mix their own toothpaste or make their own shampoo? I'd love to hear your 'recipes' Thank you
