Now on the other side some people that have trouble gaining weight might fast in order to gain normal weight eventually but still there will be initial weight loss and the weight gain to follow comes as a result of the body healing from whatever was going on that kept the person underweight.

Phantom, On the melon fast you were probably getting the required amount of calories so your body did not need to use any stored stuff. Remember, even if your metabolism slows down during a fast you still neeed to use energy/calories so inevitably you will be losing weight. Water fast is a completely different from water fasting even juice fasting. With juice fasting I tend to lose about 1 lbs

Hopefully I won't lose any weight. Phantom, weightloss is inevitable and this is something you might want to consider. I tend to lose around 2 lbs a day on short fasts. Of course some of it will be gained back but your body will depend on stored materials so in 21 days I would expect losing a significan amount of weight (my guess around 30lbs depending on your current weight/height.)

Phantom, I have no experience with long term fasting the longest I have done is a 3 day fast this summer and actually today I am on day number 3 of a 7 day fast. From my research it appears that the second day is the worst and after that the hunger subsides and can actually be a pleasant experience. In my opinion you shouldn't be fasting if the experience makes you to roll around and howl gnaw

Suvine, thanks for your support. I have decided to go on a water fast to give myself a litte break from food altogether in hopes that this will take away some of the established patterns. I am on day two of my fast and today feel much more energetic and my mind is over the fogginess that the cooked food caused. I am hoping to stay on a water fast through the weekend and continue with a juice f

Thank you all for your support and encouragement. It is good to read this as I am waking up and feeling the hangover like symptoms of my last nights meal. Tamukha, I live in Northern Indiana and yes do seem to get quite affected by the cold/lack of sunshine situation and with the demands of my job I don't seem to spend any daytime hours outside of the office (a get there as daylight comes and

I have been very discouraged lately about my eating patterns. I went raw last February and since May have been doing 80/10/10 felt wonderful full with energy and life source. In September I started a new job (my first real job--just graduated from college in the summer) and I can correlate the starting of this job with me every 2 weeks or so falling off the raw wagon and indulging in some insanel

While you are transitioning and assuming that you are replacing the same amount of fat calories that you would otherwise get from cooked foods I would say it is OK. As you progress in your raw journey you might find that two coconuts a day might be tad too much of your calorie intake from fat.

Try blending bananas with some berries or mangoes and little bit of water. Changing the texture might help.

Pasteurization is simply heating liquids (usually to below boiling temp)in order to control number of microorganisms and therefore prolong shelf live. So you are basically dealing with cooked food. Even flash pasteurized juices which the health food industry seems to market as a healthy alternative cooks the juice to at least 160F it is just done quickly so the color of the juice stays more vibra

Yup quinces tend to be dry, tangy and very dense type of fruit. Growing up in southern Europe (where they are very common) I ate tons of them so even though I like my fruits juicy too I love quinces because they remind me of home.

that I crave them so much? Ever since I stopped eating salt and spices I have been eating exuberant amounts of tomatoes (I only crave for one variety-Campari). They taste so salty to me and i feel like I absolutely have to have them in my salad. The thought of not having tomatoes for dinner puts me in a panic mode. Is it the sodium content that attracts me to them? Anything else you can think o

maralyn, my symptoms did not get significantly worse before clearing. About a month before going on 811 I gave up grains (I used to sprout some grains and would also do cooked rice or oatmeal from time to time) At that point I really experienced increase of my candida symptoms so I suspect that my candida overgrowth was also related to possible grain allergies. When I went on 811(June of this y

In my case my candida cleared in less than 2 weeks on 811. I had been fighting candida overgrowth for 5 years. I would strongly encourage you to continue with 811.

I went raw in February and during the spring and early summer months I experienced significant shedding. Couple of months ago it got back to normal. I suspect it was a detox.

My dogs love them too but after learning about it I only give them one or two grapes at a time. <;

Great info, it is amazing how mainstream nutrition does not make much difference between refined sugars and fruit sugars, with the logic behind that they are both simple. One thing to keep in mind though about dried fruit PH, although our bodies need alkalinity to balance out the constant acidic waste created from metabolic activity, that does not necessarily mean that we need highly alkaline foo

Whole fruits, usually high water content ones such as melons, grapes, peaches etc. If I eat anything else in the am it slows me down, makes my brain foggy and tends to make me crave to overeat and crave cooked. Sometimes Fruit smoothies such as banana/blueberry, banana/papaya orange juice/banana are also a favorite. I would think if you are used to an oatmeal breakfast bananas, nuts and dates mi

Bryan, thank you for your suggestions. Unfortunately, I just started a new job so it is not possible for me to take time off. I have decided to slow down my transition by adding some nutritional yeast and raw honey to my salad (as a dressing together with lemon juice) in order to make my salads more palatable. This has helped me tremendously with eating lots of tender greens (1-2 pounds a day) an

Hi luvyuu, 811 aka 80/10/10 is a diet propagated by Dr. Doug Graham that is basically a raw vegan diet where most of the calories 80% are derived from carbs (essentially fruit) 10% from protein and 10% from fats. If you do a search on this site you will find lots of info about the specifics of the diet (that is how I heard of it originally) and you can also read Dr. Grahams book 80/10/10 Diet

sciencegal, thank you so much for all your advice. Blending greens with fruit smoothies is a good idea for getting more veggies in me. I do need to incorporate celery in my diet, for some reason I have been drawn for months now just to baby spinach, lettuce and spring mixes and haven't eaten other types of veggies in a while. I seem to be able to satiate my salt cravings with cherry tomatoes which

sciencegal, thank you so much for your response. My intake of greens is definitely not as optimal as it should be on some days because I am still getting used to the idea of consuming such great volumes of salad. I naturally gravitate towards fruit and sometimes just don't have the appetite for greens. Also, just like you, the symptoms seem to be more noticeable when I eat watermelon especially
