Gabriel Cousens did exhaustive research and came to the conclusion that it's really important for vegans, including raw vegans, to monitor their B12 status and supplement with B12 if needed. He didn't recommend the usual vegan sources of B12-- he felt that they were inadequate. This is posted in an article on his website, unless he's taken it down.

Hi Mislu! :-) Hey, I think you're doing great. (Mislu is a friend of mine off the board.) Don't worry... just keep on doing what you're doing. I might not have articulated that very well with regard to stress: I didn't mean that one doesn't have to feel stressed. I meant that even though we get stressed out, if we have a good diet and lifestyle, the stresses won't be able to negatively im

I feel Mark has been respectful of the vegan orientation of this board, and it would be a loss to encourage him to leave. Isn't there room for inclusion of people who are struggling with or have struggled with 100% raw vegan?

I find it really interesting that Charlotte Gerson, of the Gerson Institute, who's 90+ and is a picture of glowing health and vitality, says that from her vantage point of years of research and healing thousands of people, stress is not that much of a factor if you have a good diet.

jjallyn & Bryan-- That's really a great suggestion. I'm going to suggest to my community garden group that we use rock dust this spring, in addition to the organic compost we're already using, and see if it doesn't make a huge difference.

>There are some people who believe they are taking up too much space in this world. If you give they raw foods, they are going to manifest their belief system, and start to lose weight, to prove their beliefs. Strange as this sounds, I've seen it. There are others who simply don't want to live. So they manifest cancers on a clean non-toxic raw food diet. Is it the fault of the diet?< Bry

I don't really understand the new subject line for the post. Might it actually be a bit more negative than the original, which could be interpreted as simply an honest and direct question?

cherimoya-- I agree. Pineapples are fabulous. I wouldn't care if botanists labeled them as 'plant of unknown origin and species from Mars.' I'd still love them. Same for bananas. I love them too, as long as I blend them into a smoothie. I don't like them alone.

Interesting premise I've never heard before in a NaturalNews article. Excerpt: "The banana that we eat with our morning cereal has been used as a medicine around the world for centuries. Known in Latin as Musa sapienta, the banana is not actually a fruit but an herbaceous perennial. Alone and combined with healing botanicals, the banana can be used to heal ulcers and asthma, or to cure

I'm starting to look into the possibility that at some point Jonathan and I might move to Costa Rica or some other country that is more freedom loving than my own increasingly oppressive country. Costa Rica seems a wonderful choice because it's got lots of beautiful fruit and produce, it disbanded its military and prides itself on being a peace-loving country, and it welcomes practitioners of al

loeve-- Interesting theory, but I personally have pretty strong doubts, based on my own personal experience, that water retention problems are caused by not getting enough salt. I retain water in my midsection too-- have all my life, no matter what I'm doing or how pure my diet-- and whenever I've inadvertently added even a very tiny amount of salt to a meal I have immediately retained a whole l

Mislu-- >What about women becoming emaciated on any diet/lifestyle? Why is that NOT a concern?< Because our society's standards of beauty are all screwed up, and women are brainwashed into believing that being size 0 and looking nearly anorexic is sexy and beautiful.

I think the important clarification-- especially now that we know that Arnold Ehret was not the originator of the cooked food recipes later added to his book by his publisher-- is that Arnold Ehret is one of the earliest and finest proponents of a raw food diet, who advocated fruits and greens, and contributed much to the raw food movement by advocating and explaining how to fast in his book 'Rat

That's interesting. I read 3 of his books on raw food diet and fasting and never encountered that statement or the suggestion to add cooked food to the diet. It seemed to me from reading his books that he recommended a diet of fruit and greens, as well as periodic fasts. I wonder when he said that, and what the context was. I'll see if I can find the reference online somewhere.

Jay-- Ehret was my first influence and introduction to the raw food diet too, and it was pretty clear to me that he advocated 100% raw once you are detoxified. The way I see it, he and Doug Graham recommend practically the same thing, because Graham sometimes advocates that people in transition slow down a too agressive detox with a little cooked food, as well, doesn't he?

Just an observation about appearances and individual differences; this is not meant to be contrary or argumentative at all: My husband is 66 and looks 45. He has been told at the gym by more than one guy that his toned, chiseled physique is the envy of everybody, even the really young guys. He still has six-pack abs; also a very thick, full head of hair. He's very careful with his diet and doe

You know, this board has not always been so exclusively focused on 80-10-10-- not at all. I've had the pleasure of being a participant on the rawfoods.com board for nearly 20 years, and I remember vividly that during the 1990s it was focused almost completely on the Natural Hygiene dietary paradigm when David Klein was the moderator. And I think when Red Rose briefly took over as moderator for a

An open-minded approach to diet and lifestyle that values intuition, self-analysis and experimentation over dietary and physical fitness dogma; an open-hearted approach to spirituality that values love and compassion over scripture or dogma. Most importantly, an awareness that prana or chi is the ultimate nutrient.

Suncloud-- I think you make some very valid claims. 80-10-10 isn't the first word or the last word in dietary understanding. Kudos to you for your thoughtful investigations and self-experimentation with it. Another problem I have with the 80-10-10 diet is (to my understanding, anyway-- tell me if I'm wrong): the concept that one needs to eat massive amounts of fruit and even stretch the stoma
