Petra, How is your raw food digesting for you? What works for me if I am going to eat nuts is to eat fruit in the morning and afternoon, and not eat any nuts or other fats until I am done with eating sweet fruits for the day. This way the food digests much better without any gas. If you are going to cook vegetables, steaming is the healthiest way to cook them. The crisper the vegetables the

No, that is not the case. The bone loss and calcification comes from a lifestyle that doesn't work.In this case, it comes from eating too much protein, and creating an acidic condition in the body such that it starts leaching calcium from the bones to neutralize the acid. If one is eating low protein (under 10%), and eating plenty of leafy greens and non starchy vegetables, this should not be

Here's Herbert Shelton's view on hyperthyroidism: Etiology: Hyperthyroidism (goitre) results from toxemia, the essential and ever-present first cause of over activity of the thyroid. To us, all goitres are toxic goitres. Supersaturation of the body with toxins from checked elimination, excessive eating of proteins, starches, pies, puddings, etc., and neglect of raw vegetables and fruits, and

John is looking into this. Apparently livingnutrition.com was hacked, and it had some bad malware or adware on it. Rawfoodsupport and living-foods.com are both hosted by the same ISP as livingnutrition.com, so these sites all show up as malware sites, even though they hadn't been hacked like livingnutrition was. John is working on getting these websites out of the malware database.

banana who, If as a beginning raw foodist, you're eating 20-25% fat, that's great. When I started, I was eating in excess in 60%. But it serves to put your daily menu into a nutritional calculator like  fitday, nutritiondata, nutridiary, or Cron-o-Meter to see what your fat intake is. As for the other stuff in the book, it is not necessary to get there on day one. If dehydrated foods feel

KidRaw, I'm with you with pursuing spirituality on a personal level rather than a social level. On the other hand, I have spiritual allies, who are all walking their own flavor of spiritual path, which whom I can share about my experiences and get some input and the benefit of the experiences of others. I also agree that having a goal-orientation with regards to self realization is going to

No diet will cure anything. It is the body that can heal itself, provided you give it the conditions it needs to heal. 811 by itself is not enough condition for everyone to heal their issues, but for some it is. But a diet like 811 is not easy for everyone to implement. Because it is low fat, and people are accustomed to high fat, it can be quite challenging. I believe for myself my body neede

Our natural abilities, which might be considered super by the bulk of the population, have been hindered by our culture and religions. We are trained at a very young age to value mind and thinking, while at the same time we are encouraged to block the flow of energies in our own bodies. This energy enhances our consciousness and our senses, and when blocked, we are operating a fraction of our nat

suncloud, Given that the SAD has a fat intake of 40% fat, it makes sense that the median intake would be 10 times (1.1g vs the median 12g of LA/day) more than you actually really need, since 4% fat is probably fine for healthy humans. I am not sure it is necessary to extoll the benefits of fat (or nuts and seeds as a form of fat), given that most people overconsume fats and need to reduce t

In an earlier thread, someone had stated something like: "the difference between sea salt and table salt is like the difference between corn and high fructose corn syrup." I think a more apt comparison between celtic sea salt (or himalayan salt) and table salt is the difference between brown sugar and white sugar.

Red bell peppers, made into sticks, also works. You can make a raw hummus using zucchini rather than garbanzo beans for an easier-to-digest option.

I've shifted my diet a bit since the beginning of summer, because I was working outside in the hot sun doing physical labor. 7am. 0.5 - 1.0 quart of orange juice. Noon. 3 to 5 pounds of fruit, say like mangoes, watermelon, grapes, nectarines 6pm. More fruit, like lunch. A salad of 2 romaine hearts, pound of cukes, pound of tomatoes, a dressing of orange, red bell peppers, celery, cilantro,

Other things that affect digestion besides food combinations include the following: Eat when relaxed. If you are stressed or anxious, you won't have good digestion. Also, if you are experiencing strong emotions, wait until the emotions subside before you try to eat. If you are stressed, perhaps try some deep diaphragmatic breathing or a gentle yoga practice before eating. Also, over eating

Try mono eating whole foods rather than drinking juice. This means just one kind of food per meal, say like eating 6 oranges for breakfast, melon for lunch, and for dinner enough bananas to satisfy you. Bloated and gassy is a sign of food that is too complex to digest. Make sure when you eat a meal, that your stomach is completely empty from the previous meal. If you had a hard to digest meal,

waterfountain, Diabetes is more of an issue of overnutrition rather than a lack of nutrition or a lack of a particular nutrient or supplement. Most diabetics eat too much fat. Are you aware of your fat intake? To become aware, enter your daily menu into a nutritional calculator like fitday, nutritiondata, nutridiary, or Cron-o-Meter to see what your fat intake is. coeycoey, My personal experience of chronic fatigue was that I got it from undersleeping and overworking for years, 20 years after college, but I suspect it started much before that. For me, I had to remove all forms of stimulation from my diet before my body allowed me to sleep soundly. This meant all those items that help digestion, that are in fact digestive stimulant, spices and condiments

banana who, Your one objection to raw foods concerning sprouting raw seeds for a future pate goes away if you opt to eat fresh fruits and salads rather than making the gourmet raw foods. For every benefit of the raw food diet that exists it is possible for your mind (or anyone else's) to come up with reasons why it can't be done. To eat all raw, you need to have the internal desire, because

suncloud, Congratulations on being raw vegan for 24 years. I've been 100% raw vegan for nearly nine years now, and more along the high fruit low fat for over eight years. If people want to eat garlic because they like the taste and it helps them stay raw vegan, then I think thats a great reason to continue eating it. But some people eat it because they think its a "health food"

All foods have some amount of toxin in them. Some of those foods the toxin level is very low. In fact, you can fill your belly with that food (say about 2 pounds worth, depending on your stomach size), and you will have no ill effects. An example of a low toxin food is watermelon or bananas. Other foods have moderate amount of toxin in them. The way you can tell is that before your stomach is

As a percentage of calories, it could very well be that your daily menu is 70% cooked and 30% raw. You need to give the quantities of each food to know for sure. You might try a nutritional calculator like fitday.com to see what the percentage of raw and cooked food is in your daily menu.

I can see that many small minded people will define orthorexia as having a diet that is more restricted than one's own diet. So for a vegetarian, a vegan might appear orthorexic. Or for a raw vegan who eat some toxic items (cacao, garlic, or whatever), someone else omitting those items will appear orthorexic. The problem with restriction in diet is when it starts to interfere with one's well b

Interesting idea Horsea, that yoga folk are mindlessly copying eastern peoples. Of course, there is no factual basis for what you say, but then, who cares? Actually, one can have a personal experience of how toxic garlic is. But to do so requires that one gets their body to a state of health where it recognizes things that are bad for it. As an example, if you take cigarettes, when a child is
