No one has ever gotten aggressive, or even moderately perturbed, by the fact that i dont eat meat. In fact none of my aquaitance even know that i,m raw unless i choose to tell them. My conversations go... Sad eater, "is that all you,re eating?" Me, "yep, this salad is delicious!" I told my Dad last week about my diet becuz i visited him & stayed at his house. I

It's funny becuz it's true... Somebody posted a study on raw-vegans a couple of weeks ago that mentioned how rawbies often experience a dramatic increase in the sensation of 1) non-causal joy, 2) non-causal contentment, and 3) non-causal peace. But i like LaV's terminology way better. RFD is now a household word... at least in this household.

BW, I live in the states, Georgia. Papaya is available here and I even bought one back in June right after i went raw. But it scared me - it sat on the countertop brazenly taunting me with its thick skin & enormous size. After 2 or 3 weeks it went uncut straight from counter to compost. But I'm getting another one on my next trip to market and I'm cutting it as soon as I get home. Just one

Thanks for posting this list, BW! I'm adding 4 fruits to my weekly shopping list that ive had before, but dont eat often. And I'm resolved to try dragon fruit & papaya too. Can't wait really - its like a little adventure for my taste buds.

Hi BW - yes I think so. I am speaking of glycemic load which is, as I understand it, a measure of how much a specific amount of a certain food will affect blood sugar. 1 cup of watermelon has a GL of 4 whereas a slice of whole wheat bread has a GL of 10. Obviously some one with insulin resistance wouldn't want to eat the entire watermelon. But a couple cups should be okay.

Coco - yep, they really sting you on shipping. Amazon had those items eligible for FREE Super Saver Shipping, but I'm sure we'd all rather support a smaller online Mom & Pop shop. BW - thanks! I think sometimes a good shot of LOL might be ALMOST as satisfying as a good shot of green juice. Chat - I THINK maybe the reason they restricted selling the stuff in stores is for the same reaso

Capsules and capsule makers are still available online and TAX FREE even! Perfect opportunity to really stick it to the man with a double whammy... 1) get healthy against all THEIR best efforts, and 2) do it tax free. HA! Take that big brother! Oh wait, but then THEY'd build an online profile of us as nutrition renegades who own weapons of mass nutrition.

Hi Jeanie50 and welcome. I would think you could find lots of fresh raw foods to eat that wouldn't raise your blood sugar levels very much. Greens, salads, sprouts, spinach, nuts, kale, most of the squash family, avocados all come to mind right off hand. Oh, and broccoli and onions too. As long as the glycemic load isn't very high, it should not spike your sugar too much. You can find th

How do you save the other half to keep it from getting all brown and icky? I've been using a whole avocado every couple of days, but it's a lot of fat all at once.

Thanks for the great ideas, chat! When you say cheese I assume you mean the vegan cheeses that I've heard about. I've not tried to make them yet, but I'll look for recipes today. I love the idea of raw crackers. I have a grain mill that I use to make bread for the kids and I'd love to use it to make raw crackers for myself & hubby. Do you have to have a dehydrator for crackers?

Do any of you travel frequently for work? What do you eat when you're on the road? My husband travels 4 days a week and I am looking for a variety of raw food that I can prepare for him which will travel well, is fairly compact, and will last in a cooler for days. Any suggestions?

BW - I live in Georgia and got them fresh & local yesterday. I never had a fig tree growing up, but we had a Granny Smith apple tree in our back yard as a kid. Every AM walking to school & every afternoon when I got home I'd pick an apple in the fall. We played a game where you try bite one right off the tree with no hands - sorta like bobbing for apples but in reverse. Ahhh, the go

Hi LuckyRawVegan. Welcome to the msg board. I'm in the US so I can't help you finding great fruit in Europe, but maybe if you gave us a little more info some one could help you find what you're looking for. What country or region are you in? Have you tried googling organic farms near your location? Best of luck to you.

I can't believe it! I've always thought blueberries tasted kind of ...bleh... but I bought some from the farmer's market today and they taste amazing. Tangy, sweet, firm, tart all at once. I've only been to farmers market once before, last week - can you BELIEVE the low prices there compared to grocery store? Seriously, who knew?... well I guess y'all probably knew, but I'm just finding out an

I'm new to raw - about 2 months in and only about 80-90% on most days. My husband has always been keen on eating a healthier diet and we've been looking for ways to incorporate more veggies for a couple of years, but he'd never even considered going vegan. The 1st couple of weeks I ate raw he thought it was wierd quackery, but he'd eat the food I prepared for myself - especially if it looked pre

Panchito - Thanks for the advice. I didn't have a B12 patch, but I just bought some sublingual B12 the other day. I tried one and it perked me up a bit and seemed to clear the brain fog also. Should I take B12 every day as long as I'm not eating meat? I haven't really been thinking very much about calories, I just eat whenever I get hungry. I'll try an avacado - that's pretty calorically d

My diet prior to transition was about 50% meat and dairy, 30% grains, and 20% vegetables (mostly cooked). I was eating a descent variety of produce before, but not nearly enough. Now I'm eating fresh fruit, raw veggies, nuts, salads, fresh juices, quinoa, and veggie sushi (that's my little cheat).Sometimes I'll still eat small portions of fish too. I think I'm getting enough calories becaus

Has anyone ever experienced dizziness and fatigue when transitioning from SAD to raw? I've been mostly raw for about a month, but now my energy level is crashing. This has happened to me before when I've tried vegan diets. I felt so great when I first switched to raw and I dont want to go back to SAD. What am I doing wrong?

I don't know about the validity of the author of the afore mentioned story, but i can tell you that less than one month ago when i was eating a completely SAD diet i had a large pre-cancerous "mass" that showed up on my last mamogram. Doc said it wasnt cancer yet but there was a high probability that it was going to be wiithin the next 5 years. After 2-3 weeks of approx 80% raw i cant

Hi everyone – first post. So I was searching the web for vegetarian recipes the other day and found your websight. I’ve only heard of raw veganism a couple of times before & I’d love to learn more. Does anyone have time for a few painfully basic questions? * I’ve read on this sight that live food contains live enzymes. So how do I know if the food is live (like grains or beans)
