Thanks Sproutarian. From Wikipedia: QuoteWikipedia Salvia hispanica, commonly known as chia, is a species of flowering plant in the mint family, Lamiaceae, native to central and southern Mexico and Guatemala.[2] The sixteenth-century Codex Mendoza provides evidence that it was cultivated by the Aztec in pre-Columbian times; economic historians have suggested it was as important as mai

Check out Michael Arnstein's very excellent video on the abundance of fruit that can be had from wholesalers on the cheap. And check out alot more on his site: "If you really want to eat a fruitarian diet and you live outside of a tropical environment where fruit grows year round, then you'll have to learn to shop at wholesalers. Unless you are really wealthy, shopping at

The Chocolate Sapote is a Persimmon and is in the same genus (Diospyros) as the common Asian Persimmon and the American Persimmon. The American Persimmon is hardy to -32 degrees F. By repeatedly crossing the Chocoloate Sapote and the American Persimmon this cold hardiness could be transferred to the Chocolate Sapote. They could be grown in Canada!

Thanks Tai. I use a nylon mesh bag to strain many things. It works alot better than a simple strainer because you can squeeze it hard - a good workout for hand strength.

Here's a good article: "Vegetables eaten by people every day usually contribute about 72-94% of the total daily intake of nitrate (Shen et al ., 1982; Dich et al ., 1996; Eichholzer & Gutzwiller, 1998). Leafy vegetables occupy a very important place in the human diet, but unfortunately constitute a group of foods which contributes maximally to nitrate consumption

Probably worse than the oxalate problem is the nitrate problem, even with organic. The plants of the Goosefoot Family (Chenopodiaceae), spinach, beet, pigweed (Amaranthus), Swiss chard, and goosefoot or lamb's quarters; are all nitrate accumulaters and will become poisonous with high nitrate concentrations if fertilized very much at all (even organic fertilizer). And since nitrogen fertilizer ma

Lessons from nature and the theory of evolution. Modern man is beset with a host of metabolic dysfunctions due to 1000s of years of poor diet. Even vegans don't have it all figured out and remedied. In addition to diabetes and hypoglycemia there are diseases (unrecognized by modern science) relating to protein metabolism and even more metabolic problems with sugar, glycogen, and fat. The

Beginners almost always need far more protein in their diet. After the metabolic and digestive systems have revitalized, the need for protein diminishes dramaticly. The best source for the extra protein you need now is grass juice. Seeds and nuts have the protein but can cause other problems. Sprouted grains and other sprouts are another good choice. Check out The Sproutarian's posts.

I just looked up the price of oats on the commodity exchange - 252 cents per bushel with 32 pounds per bushel that is 7.9 cents per pound! Organic shouldn't any more than twice that I don't think. With transportation and marketing markups organic oats should still be under 50 cents a pound.

Well first she is not a demented brat. The demented one here is HH. She is a beautiful innocent 5 year old little girl who is enchanted with seeing a beautiful butterfly close up. This is a great opportunity to teach her the beauty of the butterfly. Praise her and help her observe it closely, get a magnifying glass and after minutes or hours get her to set it free so it can go out and forage.

The epigenome orchestrates how the genes are expressed, which ones are turned on and by how much, which are turned off, and the timing. Although each cell in your body has the same exact genetic code you end up with millions of very different cells (brain blood skin muscle etc) due to epigenetic control. The environment, diet, pollution, experience can effect the epigenome, often adversely, and

Vegans shouldn't be worrying so much about little details. Vegans are still destroying animals big time. Habitat destruction is destroying animals and plants (they're important too!!!) big time, many to extinction. And if you are part of modern society you are a big part of the destruction of habitat. The house you live in, the roads you drive on, the goods you buy in stores, the stores t

When our horses were up in the mountains with the neighbors horses they formed a herd of about 15. Their lives weren't all that different from wild horses in nature. They had many miles to roam. The only difference was they had some human friends that came up every week or two to play with them for a few hours. They chose to come to us to have some different sort of fun for a few hours. They c

When I was a kid we had alot of horses. They were always happy to see us and liked being ridden. At one time we kept them on a place where they had about 10 square miles of low mountains they could roam. Whenever we drove out and found them they would come right over to see us, be saddled up, and go riding. A friend of ours had a colt whose mother died. To give him all the bottle feeding he n
