Belief is a funny thing, isn't it? We are so wrapped up in our beliefs that we think (that is, we believe) that we are what we believe. And what are beliefs? Words, just words. And what are words? Byproducts of our human mental processes which purport to capture, however imperfectly, the myriad reality all around us. I'm an atheist, but I wasn't always one. And something that's always

OMG, I can't help but wonder how this initiative, well-intentioned as it is, is going to play out to mainstream sensibilities -- including that of the homeless themselves. Sure some will be appreciative, but may I say that as a former homeless person myself, it will smack of airheaded do-goodism, if not something more sinister. I mean, in NYC in the '90s, just as they were getting into a rhyt

Well, Tamukha, I guess what I'm trying to say is that no one really knows. Cigarettes used to be prescribed by doctors! HFCS was actually the healthy alternative to sugar back in the '70s, IIRC, according to Gary Taubes' book. You say to consider the source. But I'm saying that even well-meaning people can be seriously wrong, and indeed have been. So how about some common sense, so-call

Is he talking about minimalist shoes -- mimicking barefoot running?? I tried that last year...it was cool...if only I didn't get dirty! But I can't stand having blackened dirty feet, even if it washes away. I'd like to try out the Vibram and the Hattori shoes. The other minimalist shoes don't look minimalist (or "invisible" enough to me!

I wonder, too. I'm on my third week of doing veggie smoothies and even adding in fruit hasn't improved the palatibility much, so I'm going to start mixing in commercial (Tropicana, Dole, etc.) juices: organe, apple, pineapple, grape, and various mixes! I'm going to try doing just a little, enough to improve the taste.... My understanding is that some sugar in the morning, like right after wa

Say, how do y'all wash your veggies? I hand-wash practically every leaf, and it's taking me well over half an hour to make a 64-oz. karafe! Then again, I do like to stuff my smoothies full of lotsa veggies.... Should I use soap? Soak in dishwashing detergent? Think I will do this....

Damn, what a shame. I love girls that look like that, but unfortunately they seem to usually act that way, too!! So black and booty-licious.... BTW, y'all oughta stop with the disdain of normal food. Haven't you seen them Buddhist monks in Thailand rioting four years ago?? And Der Fuehrer was a vegetarian at times....

FWIW, a few random thoughts: There's an interesting exhibit at MoMa in NYC about how objects are designed to communicate to us, with us.... Nomads somewhere (Mongolian? Roma? I forget) avoid houses, calling them "tombs for the living".... Ray Bradbury had a passage in "The Martian Chronicles" touching on stuff, IIRC, in that part where all the black people in the Un

29. Sex?
I don't mean male or female (or yes or no!), I mean have you noticed any increase in libido?? I find my sex drives increase with sugar, fat, and salt and decrease with veggies and fruits -- I mean decrease in intensity but maybe also even frequency of urges. Another thing: are you vegans/raw foodists into wild raunchy sex? Anonymous sex? Casual sex?? Whatever...just curious, as besides f

Yes! What really had me, though, was the fact that antioxidants are being oversold when in fact they may actually be harmful for us! It's really discouraging, trying to be healthy but caught between the rabid SAD advocates and the crystal-worshipping-Big-Pharama-Conspiracy-living-on-air-and-sunlight types...in the end, it really seems like there's very little which anyone knows!
