Have you considered Oregon possibly? Portland and Eugene are great cities, very progressive & very green from what I have heard. Outside of the cities there may be some acreage available and probably much cheaper than in Cali.

I think most dates in stores have been steamed. I know for a fact that the ones in the packages have been. The ones that are in the refrigerators are questionable. I buy raw dates directly from a farm that does not steam or heat treat them in any way.

I have read that on a juice fast you should drink a gallon a day of juice. How expensive is it to juice a gallon worth of fruits & veggies a day??? I have a breville juicer but do you get more juice out of blending in a vitamix and then straining through a nut milk bag?

Paul, I agree about cacoa completely. It is a drug. But how about agave? That is not really raw and very often corn syrup is used in the mixture. What do you think of agave?

I would not use the soak water for my milk! I always change the soak water at least twice during the soaking process and I drain and then rinse the nuts off thorougly before I blend.

1. Being able to socialize with others (family/friends). Eating is such a central part of socializing. 2. Not always feeling full or satisfied on raw foods 3. Lots of conflicing information! Doubts as to whether raw is really that much healthier than cooked. Skepticism from time to time. 4. Becoming too obsessive about food.

I like what Victoria Boutenko says about greens. She emphasizes a chimpanzee-like diet of fruit and green leafy plants. There is nowhere you can get as nutrition, vitamins and minerals in as high a concentration as leafy greens. I think they are essential.

check out a website called skindeep. They have rated the toxicity of the chemicals in various cosmetics and other beauty products. You just type in the name of a product--it is a wealth of information.

Did you recommend Hippocrates Health Institute to him? I have heard how they have really done miracles there curing people with cancer. I know some of them personally. The woman Suvine is speaking of is Kris Carr. She has a documentary and a book Crazy, Sexy, Cancer. She has stage 4 cancer that is in remission now and she follows an 80% raw food diet and is a Hippocrates Institute Health Educ

Gradually transitioning to a raw food diet for over a year now.. I have noticed within the past 6 months: my skin has cleared up No more dry skin that I always get in the winter Increased energy, superior athletic performance No more body odor no matter how much I sweat (and I do 90 minutes of yoga in a 105 degree room!) Very mild periods with no cramps A lot more mental peace and clarit

Thanks for everyone's responses. I do weekly juice fasts, and I do yoga and exercise often. I am in a great place mentally. I am actually the healthiest I have been in so many other ways. So I do know what I am doing is right. There are also a lot of factors in my life that make me prone to illness I guess, I work in New York City, breathing in all that toxic air, I work and commute long h

Okay. I am not 100% raw. Probably around 75% if you want a figure. When I do eat cooked food it is all vegan, all organic and always pure and whole. I don't eat much grains either. I also eat very little--never stuffing myself. I have been experimenting with this way of eating for about 2 years now. I have noticed many miraculous improvements in my health (i.e. clear skin, more energy, better

That china study is like the vegan bible. I also recommend books by John Robbins as well. Anyone who reads all of those books, I can't imagine how they could not seriously consider changing their diets!

cloud, I am part of a co-op, so that is why I thought it would be nice to contact farmers directly to buy from in bulk. Rrraw--Because a corporation is a corporation (their bottom line is always profit and not consumer health or health of the environment, etc.). And "organics" have become the new hot thing, so large corporations are beginning to stamp out small-scale local organic

I've been really wanting to eliminate all my produce buying from health food stores. I don't trust a lot of the large organic corporations that have seemingly taken over the entire organic section. Has anyone had experience buying organic produce directly from farmers? I am not talking about the farmer's markets with all local produce-- but fruits and vegetables that are tropical or not always i

Victoria Boutenko does it.. You can (and should) mix any greens with fruit. It is not bad food combining because leafy greens are not considered vegetables.

I buy my almonds online from raw foodists...organic and unpasteurized. They have a disclaimer--but that is it. I have not had any difficulty getting raw nuts at all.

Don't know if someone said this already--but ovulation is the sign that you are healthy and can get pregnant--not necessarily menstruation. Personally, I would freak out if I didn't get my period. I consider it to be a natural cleansing process. Since changing my diet though, I have noticed that my periods only last 2-3 days and are pretty light (as opposed to 6 or 7 days of pretty heavy blee

I am planning on leaving next year to live and work in s. Korea for a year. I am already getting anxiety about what I will find to eat. Here, I have my organic produce, my raw nuts, my vitamix. There I will be starting all over..and am not sure if I will even find organic produce. I am not going to change my mind about going because I don't want food to interfere with my living life--but I wa

Thanks for all your great suggestions! I was given a great recipe from a friend with cancer.I have tried some other green smoothie recipes, but I didn't like any of them as much. The one I made consisted of lettuce, kale, celery & cucumber mixed with coconut water, dried apricots, some blueberries, and a little mango and agave. I need lots of sweetness. I was able to drink the whole thi
