Michele, I would reconsider going low carb in the first place if your goal is optimal health. To me low carb implies higher levels of protein and fat to compensate for the displacement. Depending on what you were eating before, that is not a good move. Any protein your body can't assimilate gets flushed to the kidneys and can acidify the body. You don't need the extra purines. Extra fat

- avoid hijiki which is high in arsenic - other things being equal, Atlantic ocean sea veggies are safer than Pacific (ergo, dulse, irish moss, etc). Why safer? the release of toxins from the Fukushima nuclear reactor and other release points from Japan resulting from the 2011 tsunami. Maine Coast veggies are a good alternative. - if you buy Pacific ocean sea veggies, check the source a

Mindy, I don't eat kim chi but based on what I know from prior discussion with my forum mates, I would say if you are going to eat kim chi, definitely make your own. There is a cancer risk for prepared kim chi that cannot be ignored. Bryan , Tamara , Chris and I discussed this on a thread about 15 months ago. Rather than repeat the discussion, click on the link below and read the last h

Amazi, I don't think you have to have the erucic acid completely gone in order to safely consume it. The quantity in broccoli sprouts is well below the exposure limit. . The West article calculates the content of erucic acid in broccoli florets, sprouts and seeds at 0.8, 320, and 12,000 mg/100 g (strange units, I'm used to mg/kg or ppm). They conclude using erucic acid guidelines for ca

It's certainly possible. When an allergen is absent in a person's diet, it allows the immune system to rest and sometimes reset. My son's allergist has said this may even be possible for strong allergies such as tree nuts. We are going to retest him next year and see what the reaction is.

Me too. I first read of David in Susan Shchenck's book the "The Live Food Factor". And though Susan has gone over to the dark side in nutrition, David told his story on page 66. He follows, I believe, a fruit based raw diet and studied TC Fry's Natural Hygeine Course (reading from my copy). In short, David was diagnosed with a sick colon and cured himself on a fruit based raw diet.

you asked about which one is easiest on your back and arms.... that would be any vertical spiral slicer. The Benriner that John sells has two rubber feet, not suction feet. you don't want suction feet on your kitchen top. You just don't want the slicer to move. The Joyce Chen and its wanna be are easy on the arms but don't make wider "noodles" Question how long do these have t

Not sure that extra $1500 is well placed. My Super Angel pulp is bone dry. Low rpms, 10 year warranty. If you think a Norwalk is the best way to go, good luck. Greenstar Elite maybe even better from a cost standpoint, low rpms. I can't personal justify the extra $1500.

Michele, Dry fasting means no food or liquid, hence dry. It's not sustainable for more than very short periods. Tonya Zavosta has been a big proponent of dry fasting. I don't see the point though. Most of the benefits from therapeutic fasting are from water-only fasting rather either juice fasting or dry fasting. Juice fasting really isn't a fast since you continue to consume calories, m

Michele, based on what you have said, I doubt that eating more fruits and vegetables are responsible for additional weight gain unless you were dehydrated previously eating salads with chicken and fish (which could be low carb and would dehydrate you as your body would be using extra water to process the high protein). It is very possible that the combination of rehydrating and taking in a li

Michele, Could you give us more detail? How much weight did you gain and over what period of time? Could you give us a sense of what a typical day's meal plan is like for you? How much physical activity/exercise? It's hard to opine without knowing the particulars. Just shooting in the dark, but what is the ratio of whole raw foods vs. processed gourmet raw? In other words, how ma

Chris, I agree with you about not detoxing out of adrenal insufficiency. Also agree that the behavior which started a condition has to be eliminated after the fast or any treatment for that matter. You cannot detox something that is deficient. Only remove an excess. The appropriateness of a water fast depends on what you are trying to do. And I agree it is always good to look at optio

Nobody is suggesting dry fasting. Most of the therapeutic fasting is water only as a juice fast isn't a real fast. I'm sorry you had a negative experience with fasting, Chris. Most of the therapeutic benefit from fasting begins on Day 8 or there abouts. Fuhrman has fasted many patients and says the therapeutic benefit usually begins in the second week and may need to go as long as 21 days.

Michele, I would say review the Goldhamer articles I cited above, the Klaper DVD, and most importantly the Fuhrman book for insight into what fasting can do and cannot do and make up your own mind. I obviously disagree with Chris's conclusions. Fasting produces benefits for high blood pressure far above that which is obtained by weight loss alone. It's been documented to lower toxic levels

Michele, I would say take your time. Take advantage of the resources on the thread, weigh the risks and benefits and proceed as you see fit. I don't think fasting is risky or needs to be with some care just like any endeavor. There are risks for not fasting too. That's the funny about risk, it can be moved, shifted, managed but never eliminated. And often you trade one risk for another.

btw, the latter advice is from Klapper's video. I've always just sat down when I felt light headed and in 5 or 10 minutes was ready to go. His way would get me right faster but a bit more embarrasing. Maybe a public park or a bench. Moving about helps a lot.

Update: I wouldn't recommend this for seed mylks. I got nothing from my poppy seed pulp. Might work better on nut pulps like almonds. It worked extremely well though on Omega VRT pulp. I got 10 ounces of pulp juice against 26 ounces of juicer juice... a 38 percent return. I don't know if that says that the Juicing Buddy is a good press or the VRT is a bad juicer (maybe both). But the VRT

Hi Michele, I am responding to your original post. What you propose sounds good provided you have water fasted before safely for shorter periods of time. Seven days would be a little long for an initial fast if you haven't done 2 or 3 day fasts previously. I have done about a dozen fasts over the past 3 years (only about once every three months to allow the body to recovery). My long

I saw a show on Veria TV the other day called the Incurables. The premise of the series is people who have met with incurable conditions using conventional medicine and then either successfully treated or cured the condition with alternative means. The case in this show is a little girl named Josie Nunez who had stage 4 brain cancer that mestasized to her spine. She reached the point where s

150. Re: Oils
I think it partly depends on what you are using it for. In general whole sources of fats are better because of the fiber... whole nuts, seeds, avocado, etc. If you are making a marinade or salad dressing, you can still use a whole food like a nut butter or tahini. But the consistency of the final product will be affected by the presence of fiber. I make salad dressings with pureed nuts and nu
