I have given blood every eight weeks for the past several years. Ever since a dear friend of mine was diagnosed with breast cancer. I am almost at a two gallon donor level. It makes me feel good to give it, simply because I know it helps so many people. My husband and daughter recently started donating and now it is a family thing. Although I haven't made it a public statement, my family

Thanks Loeve, My watermelons look like the top picture, so I suppose that I will be waiting a while longer. I am just so excited that they grew. Plus having an anxious, hungry teenager that loves the fruits of my labor, my daughter is driving me crazy asking, "can we pick one yet???" I will show her the pictures and we will wait. You are right about the creatures as well, I have

Hi all, I put in a monsterous garden this summer and been having a great deal of fun with it. I have watermelon growing now. My daughter and I got a bit overanxious and picked one, thinking that it was ready. It was not. It was white on the inside. How do you know when they are ready to be picked and ready to eat? I have probably a dozen of them right now, all different sizes and I reall

Wow, What a crazy four months it has been. My computer hard drive crashed and I lost everything on my computer, including my bookmarked sites. But, I am back and glad to be reading everyone's posts. I put my garden in this year and I am so very proud to say that my family has been enjoying much more raw food because of it. The garden has yielded tons of tomatoes, sweet peas, green beans

Prana, I tried your strawberry and banana mixture, but I won't eat non-organic strawberries, so I used the frozen, organic Cascadian Farms strawberries! It was just like a creamy whip ice cream! Yum, it was delicious. I plan on making it again tonight. It is amazing! Thanks for posting that! Deb

I start my day, everyday with a green smoothie that consists of lots of spinach, pineapple, flax seed and either oranges or frozen organic strawberries. I killed two cheap blenders, prior to purchasing my vitamix 5200. I have had it for about 8 months and could not imagine life without it. I have also been unemployed for about six months and I sincerely believe that eating raw food has contrib

I have been 80% raw since August and I think that the simpler, the better. I checked some books out of the library to get some recipes, but have not had any cooking classes as of yet. I eat alot of smoothies, salads, nut butters and sprouted breads. I have gotten so that I crave pineapple and spinach and have to have it throughout the day. It's really funny when a family member catches me in

Hi Banana who, It's ok, I don't mind the questions, after all, that is what we are here for right? I have a Cuisinart, I think that it is an 11 cup, but it is powerful and quick. Depending on how long I process it, depends on how creamy it is. My husband likes it kind of chunky, so it doesn't take long to make it. As a matter of fact, we had that for breakfast on sprouted bread with a

Yes, the blades are different patterns and sizes, I guess you could use one container for both, but I got it for free, so I ordered it. You can use the dry container for making nut butter, often tho, I use my food processor to make almond butter while making smoothies at the same time, just for the sake of time. It just depends on what I am doing for that raw meal. Like I said, I had the fortu

Hi Dinosaurus, Oh no, no toddlers is our house! We are talking teenagers and my husband, 16 year old daughter, 19 year old son. My son is so junk food addicted and it kills me to watch it change not only his health and skin, but also his demeanor. It makes him mean and he fights alot with me when he eats SAD food or junk food. I wont have it in the house, but he still eats it and you can s

I am about 75% raw. Dinner is tough for me right now cuz I have two other people in the house that haven't quite committed as I have. I have a goal of 100% raw by next summer. I am not sure whether the vitamix works for soup cuz I am not a big soup fan, I try to keep my diet simple, drinking alot of smoothies. I bought the vitamix with both the wet and dry containers. The dry container ca

Oh my goodness, yes, the benefits are amazing. First off, I lost 17 pounds and several inches off of my body! I am very happy about that. I have knee problems and although I still get some pain sometimes (when it is really cold), it is not anything like I was experiencing while eating a SAD diet. My skin has cleared up considerably. It may be my imagination, but it seems like some cellulite i

I am in Cincinnati too, been trying to stay about 75% raw with a long term goal of 100% raw by next summer. Not sure about the young coconuts, I would just ask them. I go to the one in Mason and they are all extremely nice there. Deb

I have said this before and feel that I have to say it again. I use my vitamix every single day of the week, often two or three times a day. I make green smoothies (right now it is orange, pineapple, spinach) every morning, DELICIOUS! I make applesauce about three times a week in the vitamix, using apples, strawberries and blueberries, far better than cooked and when I am craving something qui

I love my vitamix and could not imagine a morning without it. I never knew about the blendtec until after I purchased my vitamix. I bought the 5200 with the dry container as well as the wet container. I make wonderful green smoothies every morning, nut butters, apple sauce, grind nuts, flax seeds. It is truly a wonderful blender although, I can't compare because I never checked into the blend

I add flax seed to my smoothies, but imo it is personal preference. I also take a b12 supplement every day. When I started green smoothies, I added more fruit to the smoothie (25% veggies, 75% fruit and everyday slowly added more veggies until I was at a ratio of 60% veggies, 40% fruit), that may help you get used to drinking them. They are really quite good and my family looks forward to them

I remember being forced to eat meat! I hated meat and would much rather of had a fruit salad and as a child, I was one of the only children I knew who actually liked vegetables. Interesting, I remember sitting at the dining room table for hours after everyone else left, because I refused to eat my 3' by 3' piece of shoe leather, yuck! Deb

Hi emilyah1981 and welcome, I have been raw 80 -95 % since about august 15th. This site is amazing for learning things about becoming raw and the people that post here are super supportive, so be sure to read as many posts here as you can. One of the things that I learned is that you can make raw eating as simple or as complex as you want to make it, if that makes sense. I like the simple

I have carrot crackers in my excalibur right this very moment. I am also going to make the crust for my raw pies in the dehydrator tomorrow. I go through spurts using my dehydrator. Some weeks it sits empty all week, others it runs all week. I wouldn't be without mine though, or my food processor, or my vitamix, absolute must for a raw kitchen! Deb
