I used to use spirulina but after I read more information on raw food diets I realized it's pointless and a waste of money. Eat fruits and vegetables in their natural form. The plus side is that is also the simplest and cheapest way to eat/consume food and nutrients! Don't bother with supplements of any kind.

Yeah, she is probably a little afraid of you becoming hot and losing you. Your self improvement while she does... nothing to improve herself? It's a common problem and sad when it arises. Usually if I'm with that kind of partner that's a signal that that person isn't right for me; anytime I get excited about improving my life or myself. Those small comments could be a sign of bigger issues and cl

Yeah... in addition to going raw I'm totally broke, my car needs to be fixed soon, lots of excuses to avoid going out. It's starting to bum me out. Anyway, I'm 2 weeks and a day or two in. Doing pretty good though I've had two cooked meals. Interested in the 80/10/10 diet, been keeping my percentages in those categories, or trying to. At first I realized I was eating 30% fat! Who knows what th

HELLO I just bought a bag of butternut squash at Trader Joes on a whim. I know, I know I didn't buy the squash and chop it myself but I wanted to try it out first. I eat a few pieces raw but don't think I could do a whole serving that way. I'd like to blend it! I saw some recipes online but nothing jumped out at me. What would be YOUR fave butternut squash soup recipe? OR other ways o

I moved from grey wintery Chicago to Los Angeles. One of my favorite things is running errands and walking around right in the middle of the day or early afternoon when the sun is at the top of the sky. Sometimes I do this for an hour, go inside for an hour, go out for an hour (riding my bike, being at my destination, riding my bike home). I must get enough vitamin D? The sun is out pretty much E

I feel better now about this.... like I'm in a groove. Today was my best day at like 82/7/11. I realized this lower fat thing is mostly not eating ANY FAT and avoiding it aside from maybe a few nuts. This in the end is good bc those $5+ bags of nuts are going to last AWHILE. I'm still eating less than 1500 calories but don't feel hungry all the time. I can go out and shut the hunger up if it c

Thanks....... I know there are other forums but some are SUPER cheesy or JUST vegan and junkfood vegans talking about induldging in mock-SAD foods etc... I found another one and will try it out. I just was looking through the back pages here and learning so much and am not turned off by the look/setup of this place so I was just hoping more people would be responsive. A lot of this is just me thi

I left my friend aka went HOME instead of going out to eat. We already hung out by walking around and going to an art opening. I could have continued, as it was early in the evening but I was like, nah - I gotta go. I don't have money for restaurant food anyway, and I don't want it. I could make a better side salad at home. About feelings- since raw there are NO FEELINGS. I miss my feelings. I

YES..... I've had it from a juicer and I also BLEND with it. It's good and powerful. I also chop it in salads. I usually use grapefruit in juices VS bananas etc.. also a powerful alive tasting fruit. Or w lemon and ginger. Lots of possibilites. I like the bitter greens, once I got used to them. You look at charts with things with the most nutrients, kale, collard greens, dandelion are at the top,

I just ate my first cooked meal - on the 9th day. Not because of uncontrollable cravings... since I started I've just been avoiding friends and staying out too long etc. I walked 7 miles today and went to Whole Foods. Usually I'm fine but today I was pining (mentally only) for some vegan non-raw things. Just things with different textures, non-produce carbs. I walked around other shopping areas w

Track things on fitday.com to see how many calories you're REALLY eating. See what the percentages are, maybe it's too much fat. Also having to click in what you're eating will inhibit you from overeating. Also - do you exercise?

ALSO...... the being jobless thing means I have access to my kitchen at any point in the day. This is bad on one hand for quantity of eating but good in general... I WANT a JOB very badly not just out of desperation but I like to feel productive but I DREAD getting an office job where you sit all day and eat candy, doughnuts, etc.. but that's where my experience lies. I think something part-time

OK....... I tried to lower the fat percentage today. I ate a TON of fruit. I was generally leaning more towards the veggies but tried something new. I also didn't eat chia seed pudding, anything with cacao, or frozen banana 'yogurt' which all rule. still I ended up at around: 72% carb %6 protein, 22% fat. Just ONE avocado and some cashews pushed me to that point; disappointing. I also a

SO TECHNICALLY: - I have been vegan for 6+ months - For 3 weeks have incorporated juicing into my diet / more raw - Just 5 days eating under scrutiny and trying to work towards 90% raw The first 3 days of going near 100% raw I was SUPER hungry. I felt like I was eating all day. Now it's leveling out, but I also reduced my exercise to make this transition less complicated or make me feel

Ok... I never thought I would "go raw" but moved to California from Chicago 8 months ago to live in a more healty environment and after 2 of those months with accidental guidance and inspiration from a friend, went vegan. This was surprisingly easy, and I don't miss cheese or meat at all. 3 weeks ago I received a BLENDTEC blender I won in a contest. I needed it and wanted it badly, for

I tried googling this but it seems complicated. When just vegan I used to enjoy oats, with bananas, as a mix to a cereal. I notice they are usually never mentioned when people describe their raw diets... they are so cheap, I like the dryness, texture... I heard it is hard to find raw oats. Still, if not raw, they might be one of my "exception" foods. Just a few sprinkles here and there.

Well, if you shop at places like Albertson's and Safeway owned stores like Kroger, Jewel, Ralphs, Dominicks, Von's, I bet you'll feel the hurt way more. I'm glad I live in a city with tons of little shops that need to compete with one another. I go to those and the lower/cheaper stores which still have some good produce for super cheap, as well as Whole Foods. Forget stores in the middle, prices

My goal was MANY pictures I've seen online from recipes where the seeds get HUGE!! I was going for that. Maybe it will never get to that point! I thought I was doing something wrong. Well... maybe I am getting hungry now... Maybe I was mislead by the picture below. Mine are much mini-er seed blobs. I just took a sample bite... the liquid I made to soak it in tastes very dairy-like and creamy,

OK...... round two soaking in the fridge according to pborst's measurements, roughly. I got some almond milk (not ready to make my own yet), and blended in the blender with two dates, some cinnamon, a few drops of agave nectar, a tiny bit of cacao powder. The plain fluid tasted alright.... assuming the seeds soak it up well, I should have a nice snack tomorrow!

NO, I LOVE bananas too. I see them there and often opt to keep them out of my green smoothies so I don't eat too many a day. I eat 1-3 a day. Otherwise it's a lot of calories etc, no? Eating like 10 a day seems kind of crazy, especially considering ALL the different types of food available. I was just wondering if someone had an opinion on whether or not that was a good/healthy idea or not, to ea

I eat TONS of greens. Green juice at least once a day, and a salad FULL of them. But fruits... it's funny, if I would have guessed, my old self would be just eating fruits right now. I'm so much more into vegetables! Fruits seem more expensive, and less fulfilling. I eat maybe a grapefruit and 1-3 bananas a day. I just go to the store, look around, no fruits appeal to me that much. I don't hav

HI......... anyone else here living in Los Angeles? I'm sure it's one of the easier cities to live in as vegan/raw. I've been here almost a year. There are four grocery stores near me where I get produce (MISC non-chain grocers). I also go to Whole Foods sometimes, as well as Trader Joes (not so much anymore, too much packaged foods). I used to got to NatureMart Bulk bin but it's always crowded,

YOU EAT SO MANY BANANAS!!! How can that even be healthy? Your diet sounds like it needs more variety.

I'm going to try making some almond mylk soon. There are SO many recipes online. What are your favorites? ALSO, after soaking and blending, when you filter it through a bag what do you do with the left over nut pieces in the bag? I heard you can use them for alternate recipes. The idea of having the 'leftovers' for another purpose is exciting to me. Sorry if there is already a thread about this.

OK, I'm new to this.... been vegan only 6mos, love it. Got a blender and was curious about raw foods in general, my diet has been mostly whole foods (cooked and not) but I want to move to all cooked or 75%. Not going to be like "I failed" and have that attitude with this but since I stopped cooking almost entirely, TODAY I craved saliness and starch. I used to eat potatoes so much. They

My pudding didn't expand that much... I don't think I put in enough liquid. I just wanted to make one serving. Somehow online I got 2TBSP of seeds for 1/2c liquid but I will add more next time and use almond milk instead... still, weird consistency. I made mine to cacaoly to make up for the 'unknown' and put it on top of oats with bananas. Interesting. Better as a snack than a way to start off th

I just got some of these today! I was hoping to find a thread like this, but am now a little confused. I threw a tiny bit into my blender with greens as well as sprinkled some on a salad. No problem. I've been familiar with flax seeds for a long time but never bothered to use them regularly. But, I decided to bring them into my diet and got some as well. The store down the street sells cheap grin

I lived in Chicago for 26yrs. I think a lot of people stay there out of laziness, accepting the mediocre, and fear. Dozens of my friends/acquaintences "moved away" and had big goodbye parties for themselves only to not have been able to hack it anywhere else and came crawling back within a year. I'm glad I got exhausted by drab unhealthiness, flat geography, horrible politics and attitu

Sorry if there is already a thread on this.... but what are some of your favorite ways to use SESAME SEEDS? For the first time I made some Tahini "paste" aka a semi-failure because I didn't use enough but it's still great. I started to read about these seeds and while running errands at this cool Koreatown home supply store I saw a super cheap sesame seed crusher, it got my mind going..
