Threads like this make me sad as they make those of us that are not 100% raw vegan every day feel unwelcome. This is especially true after months of reading posts that included mention of cooked food and even some from people that are still eating meat. The VAST majority of posts I have read have been honest, caring and offered helpful advice. Honestly, I was shocked to sign on and see this th

Hi I am attending a camp this weekend in which all food eaten anywhere in any building must be kosher. Since all prepackaged food (raw crackers--Lara bars) that I bring are vegan, I think they are OK. Obviously fresh and dried fruit are kosher. My question is--if I make something like spinach dip at home in my food processer that has never seen meat---is is kosher? Since I don't eat m

What I did mostly was set little goals. For instance I would say, "I will be raw for X days this week", then I would have a cooked meal. I would plan around events (parties, planned dinners out etc). That way I knew that there was a cooked meal in my future so it was not like it was out there "I will NEVER have cooked food" After a while, I set out a system where I would b

For me, 4 weeks is a signficant period whenever I make a change in my life. It is long enough for the novelty to have worn off, but not soon enough to really feel like it is incorporated in my life. Recently though, I have found it to be a wonderful turning point. The point where I really learn the most as it is kind of the "last round" of whatever test I have set up for myself. Be

I have been using a tea made from the herb Gotu Kola for about a year to break down scar tissue. It is not a "quick fix", but I have seen some signficant changes. My best friend has used it for longer than I, and has had similar results. It also gives you intense dreams which can help you work on/face stuff. Maybe stuff emotions and experiences that are trapped in the scar tissue..

I have had this experience and it is a bit of a drag. Try different recipies just for the fun and variety. It gets your mind off the cravings sometimes. Also spice if you do them helps--chemical heat If you do tea, this can help too. I have some gourmet teas that I use as "treats" Best of luck to you

There are a couple of good lunch things in the recipies on this site too. I have used the "queso dip" as lunch bringing veggies to dip. Also the "mock tuna salad" on top of a bed of spinach is wonderful. Home made raw salsa with veggies to dip is good. I bring lots of fruit. Sometimes dried fruit. You can make veggie nori wraps. I sometimes assemble them at work

One trick that I use to lose weight is eat "what I want" (nuts, avacados, olive oil incorporated with other things) for 10-14 days. Then I drop the fat content of my diet really low for 3-5 days. Sometimes I do this with a juice or smoothie fast, sometimes by just eating fruits only with maybe one servivig of nuts OR a small amount of olive oil per day. The weight falls off and then

Hello all As of this morning, I've lost 36 lbs since going raw in Feb. I am now officially not "overweight". In celebration, I purchased a small cutting board and a very nice folding knife to travel with so that I can have some nice things to work with when eating raw on the road. I had previously lost over 100 lbs using weight watchers and and converting to a vegetarian diet, bu

It could also be a detox. I've certainly had periods like this and eventually emerge stronger. They are not fun though. (OK...to be blunt--I HATEs them Do check that you are doing OK nutrient-wise. Consider adding a bit of cooked food if you cannot keep your fitness up to your liking and then cut down more slowly. This usually slows the detox symptoms. Best to you

Congrats-I'm am thrilled that you have found so much joy. I have been 80-90% raw since Feb, but am nearing the end of a "100% raw July". Honestly, July has not been great. I have felt more ill in the last two weeks than I have in a while. I struggled with a cold virus (though it never brought me totally down). I have had quite a bit of intestinal upset, some nausea, and some body

Having been in transition to raw for less than a year, and emphasizing healthy eating in my life for only about 4 of my 44 total years, I have seen this too in myself. For me, my interpretation of this phenomenon is that if I go back to my old habits, I am comfortable and do not feel a "need" to focus. I "know" how to do an unhealthy SAD. I grew up with it. Best to yo

thanks for posting this. I had heard there was an article on raw foods in the Times but had not seen it. Of course, it takes me way less time to "forage" for my food at the grocery store or farmer's market than it would if I were in the wild. I do spend a bit more time than if I were buying quick to make, pre prepared meals, but I am WORTH IT! I don't dehydrate things myself which

What's worked well for me is to eat a fair amount of fat (1/4 cup of nuts, 2-3 TBSP olive oil +/- avacado and/or some tahin) per day for several days. Then cut the fat way down to MAYBE a TBSP of oil OR a small serving of nuts per day. The weight falls off me personally with this method. I think it keeps my body "guessing" so it uses my stored fat after it has gotten used to external

Hi there I have transitioning to raw since February of this year. Since March, I have been 80-90%..basically eating 1-3 cooked meals per week. This month, I made a committment to make July a 100% raw month..so today is two straight weeks. Yesterday I was going through a bad detox which I am still working through a bit. Last night I sat down to eat a salad (lettuce, tomato, green onio

Mango with anything is one of my favorite breakfasts. I often add some raw pistachios and agave nectar. Sometimes yoghurt. Of course, there is always the smoothie option. Raw hempseed powder in smoothies ups the protein content. Enjoy!

The raw food diet has definately decreased my enjoyment of alchohol. The last glass of red wine I had--I go no buzz at all---but was super fuzzy headed the next day. I'll probably repeat the experiment at some point, but if I don't get any fun definately alchohol will be out for me in the future! Sigh..........

I probably eat about 40% of my calories as fat (nuts, oils, avacados) Then about 40% from fruit, about 20% from veggies (mostly greens) I periodically cut my fat intake to 5-10% for 3-7 days at a time to promote weight loss. I am definately more light headed during those times (and crabbier too! Best to you in your journey

Healthme I just want to add some encouragement. I had previously lost 100 lbs using weight watchers and transitioning to a vegetarian diet. I gained 35 lbs back over about 2 years. I have been doing 80-90% raw since Feb and have lost 30 lbs. For me, I have learned an INSANE amount about listening to my body by doing raw. I have lost most of my food addictions and had the opportunity to fa
