Does anyone know a place that I can order persimmons from? Online or by phone? I really love them but they're $2 a piece here (Charleston, SC) and I'd love to get a bunch of them!!! Also, I'm interested in trying a sopadilla...I read about them today in Living Nutrition Magazine! ~Jessica

Here you go! Rawvolution's Marinara...Matt Amsden 1 1/2 c. blended tomato 1/2 c. fresh lemon juice 2 T. Nama Shoyu 2 T. olive oil 2 T. chopped yellow onion 3 cloves garlic 1 c. sun-dried tomatoes pinch sea salt I haven't tried this one yet, but I think I will. Thank you for the suggestions...I do use dates, and I do really like them, just not in all recipes. Plus, the financial issue is there. But I was really just curious as to what you all think about a comparison between maple syrup and evaporated sugar cane. Are they in the same category, or is one better than the other?

Hi everyone. I have, like most everyone else here I'm sure, been trying to get a good bread substitute. I've been reluctantly buying the sprouted "bible bread" from whole foods/earthfare but I know it's cooked at too high a temp. for my comfort. I know that I won't be able to re-create a loaf of sandwich bread, but maybe single pieces of bread. I've tried some flat breads that had too s

I am trying to decide whether evaporated sugar cane juice or perhaps sucanat (which is a more whole form of sugar cane as I understand it), would be fine to use in recipes. I currently use maple syrup which is not raw, so it seems that would be about the same as sucanat or another organic evaporated cane juice sugar. Mostly the reason for me to change would really be financial. My goal is to u

Hey goldsplinter...it's very obvious that you're only 17 because you are way too disrespectful to be any older than that. The members of this board (and others that I have seen you make rude comments on) are trying to help you learn more about a subject that you are interested in and have questions about (being raw). Why do you insist on insulting their good intentions?

Are there organic ones? I've never seen any around where I live. Generally I've found they're fine if there's a little mold on the husks. I've had purple coconut meat, too, which just means they're really young. Those kind have more water and the purple meat is VERY soft like gel. They're perfectly fine, just a bummer to not have much meat when I open one up.

alive! - thank you...I did try buckwheat (the day after I started this thread) - and it's really great! It made a great cereal and I'm going to try grounding it for other recipes. And yes, I did read it was a seed also. Holly - I think the reason wheat and other grains are avoided is because of gluten allergies and addictive effects. That's what makes them bad. And I'd say that I myself do fin

Yeah, sorry, I know spelt is a grain...I just meant that maybe it isn't as bad on the digestive system as wheat. And I've read in a number of places that wheat (or is it grains in general?) contains opioid properties meaning that they are addictive.

For instance, spelt...can that even be made myself? Are there spelt berries or something? I agree with the avoidance of grains for the most part, and I know spelt is gluten free, but does it have other addictive components like wheat and other grains do? The reason I'm asking is that I thought I maybe could make some raw cookies or crackers (dehydrated) that use some kind of flour but not nuts

I would like to know about black beans...can they be sprouted? I really like them cooked and am thinking about making them from time to time. I'll have to do an experiment and see if they soften enough to be edible after a good long soak.

Someone please post the "dirty dozen" list of what to buy organic! I have seen it before but don't really know where to find it when searching for it specifically. ~Jessica

I don't know about vomitting, but I am on my 4th day as about 99% raw and I felt nauseous after eating raw lasagne one night. I don't know if it's detox - I thought it might be more of a mental thing as the flavors are very rich and different, too. Thinking of the "cheese" on my meal as being macadamia nuts and yeast may have had an affect on it - even though the meal tasted great! I th

Bryan - thanks for the articles! That definitely makes me disinterested in the drink! I have already decided doing it myself would be too involved. I knew it was slightly alcoholic (bottles we've had say .5%) and it makes sense that if you brew it yourself it could end up with more than that. Besides, my husband is about 10 months sober so I don't want to mess with that! He's only drank 1/3 - 1/2

I am wondering what the safest drink container is. I have always been a bit freaked out by plastic, and especially now after all the knowledge I've recently gained about they way things are produced and the utter lack of care that the government has with human health. I found some stainless steel water bottles that I'm thinking about getting for my children and I'm wondering if those are the best

Anyone here drink Kombucha? Make their own? My husband really likes it and he has had many digestion problems for years (which fermented foods are supposed to help, right?) - and I'm very curious about us making it for ourselves as it would be much cheaper than buying it for $4 per bottle. Where's the best place online to purchase a kombucha culture or "mushroom"? Thanks, Jessica

Thanks for all the comments! It sounds like some raw eaters really like the availability of having these kinds of equipment and some don't care to bother. I think that having them will help my family be better able to stick to our goal (at least 90% raw) even if we don't use them all the time. If one day we're feeling bored with mono-eating (which is certainly the most convenient way to eat) then

Hello everyone! I've been looking around the BB for the past couple days and gotten some wonderful information from all you guys! My husband, Aron, and I recently decided to eat more raw vegetables - it was just something Aron brought up and with myself trying to cut out all the horrible sweets I normally eat, I was up for it. So I went to get some vegitarian cook books (I wasn't as excited by
