Banana - how do you make raw swiss chard taste good? Or do you eat only the very young swiss chard & mix it with a bunch of other stuff that does taste good? I planted a bunch of chard and it's coming up now and I really don't want to have to cook it to make it palatable.

Me, I eat some chia seed whole, chewing as well as I can; and I also eat some ground. Just for variety, you see, but inadvertently I may be doing myself a favour. Maybe the ground seed works in one way, and the whole seed (chewed in the mouth rather than in the grinder) works in another way. All for our benefit.

Re: Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Juicer. Version #67650. I wanted to add: The juices come out slightly pulpy, a fine, pudding-y pulp which is removed by putting the juice through a fine stainless steel strainer. The electric cord is way too short. My Omega's cord is 5 feet long and maybe I've been spoiled by that, being able to move it about without unplugging it. The 67650 version has m

I would think that you have to soak your almonds for a long time, possibly until they just start to sprout, which effectively turn them into a sort of vegetable, before you make them into a milk; they are thereby denaturized into a more digestible form, and mixable with all other foods.

I finally bought the Hamilton Beach, relatively cheap, Big Mouth Juicer 67650! I paid CDN$100. It is quite a bit cheaper in the USA. I can't compare it to any other similarly-priced centrifugal juicer, as the only juicer of that style I have ever used was made by Sanyo, and this was 15+ years ago. It did not have pulp ejection. It was about $35. I can only compare the HB 67650 to singl

Hi, Lisa. I am in Canada. The only whole hemp we can get here is roasted and salted! If you want to be a hemp farmer in Canada, you have to jump thru a whole set of hoops and put up with inspection, etc. to make sure you aren't sneaking a few marijuana plants in your fields. SIGH...

Badawie, I am just curious to know what form of zinc you take. I heard that ionic zinc (liquid) is the most absorbable. They say that the vast majority of men don't get enough of this mineral in their diet. I guess women are also affected but somewhat less.

Interesting what you say about camu camu, Powerlifter. I guess fresh anything, esp. sprouts, is the best way to get your vitamin C. The far northern people apparently, or so they say, would eat raw adrenal gland from a just-killed animal and got their C that way. No way but raw for some nutrients! Hunting for wild rose plants and eating the hips in late summer might be a more humane way to go

For the last word in the difference between spirulina, super blue green algae and chlorella, go to the third edition of Paul Pitchford's book Healing with Whole Foods. He goes on at length for many pages, describing these 3 superfoods and how you might choose the one that's best for YOU. He also discusses wheat grass powder. These foods are definitely not interchangeable. Especially where super

I want to thank you, pborst, for putting these questions to John, an expert. So this is the cheerful John who makes those videos comparing juicers? I find them quite entertaining + informative + helpful. John, thank you for your information. What you say makes sense, namely, that we have to pick a juicer for our particular situation. I like carrot + celery juice, mostly. If I get a centr

RE: CARROTS and single-auger juicers. But what would be the basic difference between the 8006 and the 8001, the old model that I have? As far as I can tell, you still have to make the carrots into long, pointy spears (or little dices) to get them wound around the auger, along with plenty of pushing with the pusher. How is the 8006 an advantage over the old original 8001? Hope to hear back

You can buy raw, sprouted, brown rice protein powders. Quite tasty and much less of a production than trying it yourself, if you ask me. Does anyone know where one can obtain sproutable rice, just as a point of interest?

Just an opinion here, but I somehow see the Vert as a bit of gimmick; does anyone agree with me? They took a single auger, enlarged the auger and turned it up & down (so as not to go against gravity, I guess). Then they charge you a whole bunch of money, but yet it does not have the food-processing capacity of the standard single-augers. I think if money was not an issue for me, I would

Green beans are generally started outdoors after the last frost. They don't transplant well. There are dozens of varieties that will mature quickly in your climate, never fear. Lettuce can be started indoors but it grows so fast that there is no benefit. Just sprinkle the seeds in the soil outdoors and bob's yer uncle.

We all have a different constitution. Some people shouldn't eat this way. Others thrive. Everyone must reassess his or her way of eating every so often and make the necessary adjustments.

Well, for heaven's sake, if they can make bags out of cotton or nylon, then surely they can make them out of hemp, as was done in the past. If it was me, I'd find some hemp cloth and sew my own. That baby in the video sure is cute. Nice to see children drinking something healthy, not like so many I see sucking back on pepsi. The main thing when choosing a juicer is, as you imply, that

Yogi, I was fascinated by your experience with the cadillac of juicers, the Norwalk! I wonder if the company has fixed that 'little fault' of leaving carrot pulp on the walls. I saw a video on youtube of someone using the Norwalk where I didn't see that problem. I must admit that it's all a bit of a production, though. Yes, any owners of Norwalks - do chime in here. What you said about t

Thanks muchly for your good information & advice, which I will look into. I must say that I don't want to buy an ultra-cheapie, you know, the juicers that cost about $39.95 regular price. Know what I REALLY want? A Norwalk. Or at least a stand-alone hydraulic juice press, like the Welles I've heard about. Moneywise, it's not doable at the present.

Loeve, what sorts of things do you forage? Me, I find myself eating the weeds whilst weeding the garden. We have nettles coming up in the garden, also, but needless to say, they are cooked first! What part of the world do you live in? I guess I should be yakking about gardening in another part of the forum!

What I want is a wide-chute juicer, preferably inexpensive. So, the Omega Big Mouth sounds good, but I just happened upon an inexpensive juicer by HAMILTON BEACH also called Big Mouth! And it's about $75 US dollars! In Canada, where I live, it is $100.00 Cdn dollars. On epinions, the HB Big Mouth is well-rated. In general, it is excellent for hard vegetables and less so for soft fruits &a
