Thanks for telling me this, loeve. Hey, do you garden? I do! I don't cut my potatoes, though. I plant them whole and the bigger the seed the better!

I loved reading your review, Paul. I am always on the lookout for a fast 'n' convenient juicer to supplement my oldish, and none-too-convenient, Omega 8001, a single-auger type. I might add that the single-auger style of juicer regardless of brand is sometimes advertised as a "wheat grass juicer". But my Omega was sold to me as useful for everything. I think I was lied to. It i

Oh, no. It was, I am pretty sure, a true yam. Dioscorea species, to the best of my knowledge. A nice light yellow interior. Definitely not the standard sweet potato that you posted. I don't understand why it was so very quick to start oxidizing when I sliced it open. I've never seen this happen before with a true yam. In any event, I did cook and eat it as I am only 50% raw in my diet

First of all, many thanks to both of you for your information on obtaining wild rice for sprouting purposes. However, in your photograph, the wild rice doesn't look as if sprouted. Could you explain? Thanks.

But the opening poster may not necessarily have a prediabetic condition, nor even be predisposed to such. He may have more of a tendency to chronic low blood sugar. Maybe he can clarify this.

NO, you aren't boring, but you do cause concern for your welfare. It's all a matter of being open to all sorts of healing diets for yourself even if they may not be 100% raw. If you have blood sugar issues, I would opine that may be connected to protein deficiency. I don't know why "the raw food trend does not address the issue of insulin at all." Maybe some parties have an axe to g

PBorst, thank you for the link to chiaforhealth. Very interesting reading. In any case, I much prefer the texture of crushed-up chia.

Greenpower, that is a plausible explanation. As to greens, I have found that in general they seem to have a balancing, soothing effect irrespective of anything else in my diet. It may or may not be the magnesium; it may be some overall "energy" of the food. (It's like an oriental formula for beriberi: it contains NO VITAMIN B, but cures the severe B-deficiency nonetheless. How neat

My "digestive fire" is wonderful. I have been to two doctors of chinese medicine and they consider my digestion to be good. One of them prescribed me a herbal formula containing 3 sources of calcium, including "oyster shell calcium". I think this is called mu li. Suncloud, I am going to try the just-soaked, not-sprouted sesame seeds and see what the effect is. I prefer th

What a nice, colourful dish! Where, oh where, do you find sproutable wild rice??? The wild rice we buy in the store has been heated in the processing.

Hi. I am familiar with the ideas of Louis Kervran, too. Thanx for mentioning him. My understanding of his claims is that we have to have an optimally functioning liver/digestive system (all body systems, really) in order for this transmutation to take place. If you have spent decades eating crap and living a grossly unnatural life I don't think you can just stop consuming calcium-rich containi

"Sesame seeds are the most concentrated calcium source on the planet, and most of the calcium is in the hull!" When I try to eat raw sesame seeds, I right away, the same day, get leg cramps. I read in a health book that sesame seeds are high in oxalic acid ; however, this can be neutralized by sprouting, then roasting. I have tried only sprouting the seeds, but their taste is

How does the upright Omega VRT act as a food processor, plainlydressed? I saw a man using one on Youtube - he is some sort of juicer reviewer - and he tried to make butters but clearly the machine was not designed for that use; part of the seed woud come out dry & floury thru the juice spout, and the nice oily part stayed stuck inside the machine and had to be scraped out. This is unlike t

Help me out here. I bought something called yams which looked on the outside like sweet potato but inside were light coloured, a light yellow. As soon as I cut them open they began to turn black. Has anyone else noticed this? They were firm & fresh.

I hope he does not delete this topic. It seems unwise to eat in a way that clearly may not be working for you anymore - cooked/raw/vegan/nonvegan/etc. - in order to be able to say that you are keeping with some overall food ideology. Me, I used to eat a heavy cooked-food pretty-much-macrobiotic diet and did fabulous on it for some years, then I started feeling bad and am pleased to not

Suncould & Coco, you have expressed important ideas and very nicely, too. As one who has raised free range chickens in the past, I can assure you that these animals have a good, long life. But when I see "free range" on supermarket eggs, I know it's still a mega-farm and I know damn well they get rid of, ie, kill, the hens after their first year of laying. After her first full y

Hey, Vinny, best of luck with your garden-to-be! I'm interested in knowing just what you are going to do; please keep us informed. Buddhist, I hope you can find a pick it yourself farm in the summer. Personally, I feel sorry for anyone living in the big city but you seem happy; I guess that we are called to be where it is right for us at the moment.

Yes, peeling your own grapefruit and the other examples mentioned are wonderful symbolic acts of understanding that we need to "work" for our food. I esp. love the mention of trying to open up Brazil nuts. I remember trying that as a child, too, when my father would buy unshelled nuts at Christmas. However nice the symbolism, I suggest you grow a garden, or at least go to a you-pick

They say that cocoa contains oxalic acid in amounts that would decrease absorption of calcium. Some say it deletes magnesium, also. I am not pleased to have to quote a study that uses animals. Psychopaths at work, but, hey, it does appear that we should think twice, perhaps, about ingesting chocolate regularly? On the other hand, maybe if a person has a buildup of calcium in the so

With berries & other fruit, too, all you have to do to improve the texture/taste/etc. before freezing is to pour a bit of sugar on them and mix. Just a bit. This little procedure somehow acts as a preservative in a positive sense. When you thaw the fruit out to eat it, it will have a much nicer taste than if you just throw the fruit into the freezer. Vegetables must be blanched but

I appreciate your replies, Mislu, Tamukha, & Pborst. Mislu, where do you live, ie, what gardening zone? My understanding is that chia grows only in a really warm climate. I know I couldn't grow them here, that is for sure (Canada). I thought that teff would not grow here, but, lo & behold, it did, when I planted a few seeds just for fun. Pborst, where could I find further v

Try renting the original version of the Time Machine (1960, I think) and take in the segment regarding Morlocks and Eloi. It should ring some bells.

Congrats on your successful total alimentary canal cleanse, which did produce some parasites. However, parasites - so many different varieties - live elsewhere in the human body, too, unfortunately, and if you want to clean out the whole damn lot, this is trickier. You need a broad-spectrum parasite killing herbal formula. And it's a kind of 2 steps forward, one step back type of effort.
