Marinating kale, collards, and chard in olive oil, apple cider vinegar/fresh lemon juice, and herbss is also helpful in softening them up. Like islandgirl, mine go into green smoothies.

Let's pick a time that stays the same each evening. If people show up, great. If not, no problem. Should we start on Sunday? This would give people a few days to read this bulletin and be informed about it. I know a lot of people are on eastern time. I'm on pacific time, so when we set the time we'll have to make sure we let people know what zone we're talking about. I agree with sha

I realize it's a little ridiculous to try and arrange a time to chat with everybody's busy schedule, mine included. It would be my luck to arrange a time and then miss it due to life happening. I think I was curious about the chat room because I live in a little town, sandwiched between two other little town, and I don't know anyone on the raw and living foods lifestyle, so sometimes I feel a

My fruits and vegetables do not get crisp. They get chewy. If you have a mandolin, maybe try slicing them 1/8 of an inch.

Betty - I made the refried beans for my sister's birthday, and she loved them!! This recipe is a keeper. I had a big black platter, where I first laid the bean part. I then smeared the tomato mixture on top of the beans, leaving a one inch outside ring between the layers so that people could see the beans and tomatoes contrasting one another. I used sweet potatoes slices as the chips.

Hi. I blend my almonds with water and then pour through a fine mesh strainer. I have to tap it with my hand a bit to help the milk strain through. When all that's left is mostly pulp, I pop it into a cloth cotton coffee filter and squeeze the rest of the milk. I'm always surprised at how much is left in the pulp. the best to you, Smile

selenes512 - Welcome! I think the raw and living foods lifestyle would be perfect for you. Due to the very nature of this diet, a person can ingest many fewer calories than the standard American diet, yet receive optimal nutrition from those calories. You could eat a variety of fruits, veggies, and sprouts (foods that naturally have few calories) and be well nourished. I have overcom

I'm in agreement with islandgirl. If I had to choose two of the cheaper appliances that I use most often, it would be a good blender and food processor. -Smile

Betty - I would love your cheesecake recipe. I don't understand the high failure rate, but it seems like out of all the raw recipes I try, only 1 in 10 is a winner. This is why I greatly appreciate the recipes that you're willing to share. It's frustrating to buy expensive ingredients and invest a lot of time in a recipe and then have it turn out poorly. -Smile

pakd4fun - Are many of the cracker recipes (from that $10 book you recommended) made from grains? I've attempted several cracker recipes that called for soaked and sprouted grains that I had to push through the Champion Juicer. This process was labor intensive and miserably messy with all that sticky gluten, and for all my efforts, the crackers ended up tasting like garbage. I'd love inve

Betty, Thank you, thank you for taking the time, energy, and effort to type out the refried bean and tortilla shell recipe. I went out to my garden, plucked some tomatoes, and am dehydrating them right now for the sun-dried tomato portion of the recipe. I have known of the raw and living foods lifestyle for four years now, and have been researching and talking about it for that long. We h

I've been 100% raw and living for 4 days. I had some detox symptoms throughout the night last night. I've had fatigue and weakness as well. I welcome the detox symptoms. It means I'm on the road to healing. I'm under the impression that as the mucoid plaque in my body erodes away, nutrient availability will increase, thus providing me with more energy. I'm biding my time for this to happen.

Has anybody died from walking through leaves in the fall? That great earthy smell is the mold breaking down the leaves. When ever I accidentally inhale fruit and compost mold, I comfort myself with thinking about the leaves in nature.

Logan - Thank you for sharing this with us. I watched the first 4 parts and will be watching the remaining 3. I felt grief when Japan said that they'll be watching the children of America for the next ten years to see how GMOs are affecting them. We are but guinea pigs. The 'Flavor Savor' tomato caused stomach lesions in rats, but the company produced and sold them anyway. Thank God

Betty, The bean dip recipe that you mentioned in an earlier post, where you add an additional 4 cloves of garlic, sounds heavenly. Is there any way I could get you to share it with us? My hubby (75% SAD) loves bean dip, and I'd feel blessed to be able to offer him a healthy alternative. Thank you, -smile

When I purchased my Excalibur dehydrator 4 years ago, the website advertised that one of the benefits of the Excalibur is that the machine heated evenly throughout and that rotating of trays would not be necessary. I've found this to be false. Not only do I have to rotate the trays from top to bottom, I have to rotate the individual trays a 180 degree turn because the back and right side drys

Your post has been such an encouragement to read. I love hearing about your success. I'm going to comment on a few of your questions: 1) I believe your wheatgrass is as good as your soil. Ask questions about the soil it's being grown in. 2) Yes, yes, yes. Plant a veggie and herb garden. It's incredibly cost effective, especially when you start from seed. The worms and soil microorgan
