Thanks, Jono. Don't know why I didn't think of them, as I got my dates through that site. Turns out the season doesn't really start until August, so I got myself on the notify list. Thanks again.

To give you an idea, an avocado + 2 Tb flaxseeds comes in at about 36 grams of fat and 400 calories.

Garlic is good too. Allowable levels of insect matter, rat hairs, etc., is common across all foodstuffs, set by, I believe, the FDA. Which isn't to say some companies won't have better standards than others. I don't know that the cocoa industry is any more likely to push the bounds of these permissible values than others though.

Paul Nison, in the living-foods article, fails to present an objective, informed opinion. When he writes "...chocolate in general is not good for us," he ignores a large body of scientific evidence to the contrary. Here, for example, is one of the latest:

Thanks all. Hope I didn't take over this thread too much. I'm fine with the chunky I guess, but like yourself, alanabanana, I prefer just munching on the greens whole!

Rawk, that was my understanding as well, but the question still remains, Is everyone else managing to get their green (kale, collard, for example) smoothies completely smooth? If so, I should look into a new blender. Otherwise, the one I've got (a KitchenAid) is doing just fine.

Miaculpa, I was referring to Bryan's supposition that it might have been lowered body fat, in his case. I tend to agree that doesn't have to be the case. Hence my question to him whether he had regained some of that body fat when he started feeling warmer again. Lower body temperature is also common in calorie restriction (which I practice to a mild degree) and could indeed be a factor in it

So, you don't have to "chew" your green smoothies? I'ver read it may be better to do so anyway as it starts the digestion where it's supposed to start (in the mouth). But was wondering if others are able to blend theirs up so smooth as not to require this, if they didn't want to or know they "should."

Add me to the cold club. Bryan, you never answered my question. When you started to lose the coldness, which you had attributed to losing body fat, was this due to a regain in some of that fat?

I found her book Green For Life to be quite motivating and I immediately started whipping up all variety of green smoothies. It's fun. But I must not have a strong enough blender, because it's still rather chunky. Does the VitaMix (or some other recommendation) get them totally smooth?

Y'all should get before and after bloodwork too. A standard CBC and lipid profile could reveal some promising, and objective, results.

FarmerBry, sounds like you'd really appreciate the simplicity of The 80/10/10 Diet by Dr. Douglas Graham. I know it's low-fat, grab-it-and-eat approach really appeals to me.

That would be The Detox Mono Diet by Christopher Vasey, N.D., mentioned earlier in the thread by Uma. It's basically two books in one, with The Grape Cure being the second half. The first part is a discussion of the various healing modalities of mono diets in general and one utilizing grapes in particular.

I just received this book and, of course, went immediately to the Raw Food Diet chapter to see what he had to say. I was surprised to find he did not generally speak very highly of it. In fact, he concludes that once illness has been overcome, one should return to cooked foods.
