This is a big problem because irradiating produce may
not leave the foodstuff with residual radiation, but
it will change the biochemistry of the food (just as
pasteurization cooks/changes milk or fresh fruit/Veg
juice) by cooking the life out it. Granted, irradiating
food won't be like boiling or baking or frying, but
it is cooking the food at a high temperature to kill
the germs.
