151. Hawaii
I just arrived in Honolulu for a conference for the week yesterday, and I was hoping to find some fruits here. But so far, it has been a disappointment. I went to an organic coop (Kokua, on king street), but there wasn't much there. I look for organic fruits, local of course. Coming from California, I don't want to buy californian kiwis... The guy at the store advised me to go to chinatown and t

Not received it yet also, but last time we talked to them, they were still behind on the picking... Have to be patient to get jewels ;-)

Before I came to the US, I wasn't eating much meat at home, mostly cooked veggies, with lots of salads, and fresh fruits, not much pastries etc. The country side life in France with a garden. Then I came to the US, lived with a fmaily for a couple of years, and started eating more meat (every day...), and low quality veggies, all cooked. Less salads and fruits. I got sick, in my body and my head

They are reasonable, honest, and lovely people. As zohra said, you receive the order and then send the check no problem. You trust them, they trust you. And their dates are real good. They just called us last week because they are late on the picking. So they are not ready shipping yet. Maybe in 3 weeks or so. If you want to save a call, wait a bit, and try later. I like the honey and empress

I don't do great on bananas, I'm more a watery fruit kind right now (melon, watermelon, oranges...). But my wife does great on bananas, no problem for her. And tell the guys she passes with her bike on long rides that they are not nutritious... If her pancrea was working so hard to try to get rid of the excess sugar, she wouldn't have the energy to kick ass on her bike. That's what I think. J

> but this is also confuzing as well. how many seeds > to fruits usually have? for example i had like 6 > or 7 oranges today lol and one of them only had 1 > seed, some had a couple, some had many. Oranges are usually grown on grafted trees, and that's one of the reasons why they don't have seeds all the time. A good friend of mine, rawfoodist in Spain, told me that he saw peop

If you have local farmers market, go for it. You can talk to them and figure out quickly who is organic and not (certified or not). If they invite you to come over visit the farm, usually you can trust them. If they are reluctant, but saying they are organic, I wouldn't trust them. And at the market you will get really fresh stuff, picked the day before usually, whereas in stores, all the produc

I don't think you have to avoid hybrids, hybridization occurs in nature, we are all hybrids ;-) But I would avoid seedless stuff for ecological reasons, and because by growing seedless farmers become dependant on big companies ofr their seeds. Instead of worrying about hybrids or not, you should more be worried about the mineral content of the soil where the fruits or greens were grown. And tha

Instead of buying inorganic food, I'd rather try to get in touch with small farmers, and volunteer to help them for some food, on the farm or on markets. Money is not the only way to get food. I think you can exchange time, and skills, like making signs for a farmer, or a banner and so on. SGC

All around the mediterranean, people have been eating raw artichokes for centuries. But they don't eat the big green ones that you can get in stores usually. The ones they eat are small purple ones. And they eat them just like the big ones cooked: bottom of the leaves and the center after removing the hair. In salads, it's pretty good and a bit bitter for some people. Stephane

Anna, during your trip to Spain, if you can make it to Andalucia and Malaga, you may want to contact Balta, a friend of mine. He is a raw vegan, and runs a small community farm where you can stay. Check his website: www.comunidadcruda.com Stephane

I think they use "vegano" And rawfoodist is "crudivoro" or "comida cruda" In french, vegan is "vegetalien" and rawfoodist is "crudivore" I'm french, currently living in the US, but just bought a farm in Spain to live off the land after March. So I have to learn this vocabulary now... Stephane

I'm quite new of this forum, but I wanted to mention a theory about the destruction of trees and forests and the successives collapses of civilization. It is presented in several books, like the last one from Jarod Diamond, "Collapse". The idea is that since the early human discovered fire, they started taking wood and so trees down to make fire. As the civilization increased in numbe

And keep in mind that most of the grapes for wine are heavily sprayed. Also, the new winery techniques imply an oxygenation process to speed up the maturing process of the wine, and the use of wood chips to increase the tannin content. And both of those are suspected in increasing the methanol content of the wine, and methanol in excess can be toxic and make you blind on the long term...

For me the best moisturizer is fresh organic aloe vera. I buy fresh leaves from the farmers market, and cut a piece when I need some, and apply it to my skin. It's smooth, and without oil residues. I even know some people who healed from burns using only fresh aloe vera. And it's cheaper than any processed cream. I love it and my skin too

If you read the following references, it appears that to detoxify from heavy metals, plants and bacteria developed specials enzymes which are able to trap the heavy metals in the cell, and carry them out. Such enzymes are not present in fruits. And some plants developed these enzymes for specific heavy metals only. J.L. Hall, 2002, Cellular mechanisms for heavy metal detoxification and toleran
