My father in law has been on the prescribed renal failure diet and has been following it very well for just two months and already his function has gone from 18%-23% - that's a five percent increase in just a short time - so hope is on the way! I don't know much about doing this veg., but I suppose if one were to start with that maybe a veg. diet could be achieved in the future? Just a guess.

Just wondering if anyone has had the diagnosis of permanent brain damage, and then gone on a raw food diet and managed to heal a part of their brain that was considered "incurable?" Just wondering. I just discovered that part of my health problems could be due to the fact that I was fed chloride-deficient formula as an infant for six months. (Anyone else born in 1978-1979 and fed

Are there any foods in particular to ward off mosquito bites? I know some raw foodists say that mosquitos stopped biting them after they were raw for a while... but I'm not 100% raw just yet. Any body found anything that really helps?

Good post Mama Cass - that is encouraging. Annana - I am nursing a 5 mo. old and he is doing real good with my transition to raw food. I eat one pretty heavy cooked meal a day (not vegan), and two vegan raw meals a day. Right now I am really enjoying young coconuts and nuts (I don't soak them),dates, watermellon blended into a drink, and a salad w/grapes and sprouts and spinach.

hack. gag. blech. I don't think all people have the stomach acids required to break this stuff down, so in that aspect I think she has a good point. I think that's why many people get to a plateu with weight loss... they can just never loose "that last 10 lbs." because it's all toxins, and requires more deep detoxing than just regular exercise can do.

Today is May 5, 2009. Spring always brings thoughts of contemplation. I've been getting back into the raw food diet after several years of being 100% cooked. I can deal with the lack of financial and philosophical lack of support for my diet, but then it gets to a point where sugar and coffee can't kill the exhaustion I feel, and I know it's time to go back to raw. I feel conflicted though.

Somehow I managed to not have one of these threads yet ... so here is my set of random thoughts and whatnot, as it relates to the raw food diet. So much of what I discover each day directly relates to the way I eat. So some things you will probably read about in this blog/journal dealie here are about things I like to eat, my fledgling garden, beliefs, kid observations, etc. Some things about

I wonder what is worse though, having moldy fungusy young coconuts and not having the nutrients they provide, and hence, going back to cooked foods because of ravenous cravings, or just hoping the body knows how to deal with the fungucide?

I know how you feel. I have been wavering for the past 10 years also! It's TOUGH. The more you perfect yourself (body, mind, spirit) the more alone you find yourself, because you have to abstain from what 99% of the rest of the world thinks is "good" but is actually just garbage for everyone involved. It's a hard, hard path. But do keep trying, that is the MOST important part.

I definitely believe we were created to be vegans... but because of our sin nature, the ease of being vegan and having enough to eat was a blessing that was removed for a time. But on the flip side I believe things will be restored to that Eden state again, because in Revalations it talks of much change on this earth regarding climate, politics, disease that wipe out many, etc. At the end we be

I never really got too sick with my second, but with my first I was pretty much bed-bound. Well some of this could be to due with the second-time around being easier for many women, but with Joseph I had a sit down job and most of the pregnancy took place during the winter, so no going outside. With Jeremiah it was 100% spring, summer, and fall. I worked all night in an active graveyard job.

My oldest just turned 2 - he's really turning into his dad - a big time meat eater - and nothing else!! argh. He's also going through this phase where he is rejecting fruit smoothies with veggies. It's really tough because he won't eat anything. I'd definitely stick with at least some breastmilk for as long as possible. It's something they like, and once you stop it's over - so don't be in a

Horray! Two successes in my life recently - one, the opening of TWO Winco stores in Spokane. And two, my garden 1/2 acre, soon to ba a raw mecca paradise, as much as one can be in a northern climate. I love Winco. Would love to be a 100% ORGANIC raw foodist, but when a young coconut costs $5.50 at Hucklberries (the only o.g. store)... well that's worse than a latte habit on the budget...

Fabulous! I never knew what people were talking about when they said "keyhole." But yeah - getting to the center of a raised bed to care for it was a problem and why I took down mine. Duh - what a perfect solution! It's very rocky where I live as well. You can literally rototill any spot, and a "harvest" of large rocks will come right up! Lol. My next problem is

Well, I got a new Vitamix, so that satisfies that fantasy. I want about 4 Excallibur dehydrators. I want spiral slicer for using zuchinni. And most of all, a system of containers to extend the life of produce from my garden... like the ones that suck ethelyne gas out of the box. I want to find something to fit in my small refrigerator.

I add a "ditto" to what Ruby is saying. Flossing is SUPER important, or using a toothpick if you're more inclined to do that. Melaluca has some great no-animal testing toothpaste.

Rarely watch TV, radio, read news. When I find myself dwelling on it anyway, especially being afraid of our nations food supply (like Kwan mentioned) I just have to root myself in my faith, music is the best way. Know what you're living for (for me, it's service to others) and why is important. Angie

I am trying to deal with 1/2 acre of a noxious weed called Spotted Knapweed and some Skelleton Weed by smothering them with mountains of compost, and replacemlants. So far this is working great, except lots of stuff grows around the edges of the piles, and the older piles have new weeds growing on top of them. What can I plant here instead? I know squash and pumpkins don't mind incomplete compo

Here in Spokane we have a Farmer's Market every day, in a different neighborhood. It sucks though because they are only May-October. I envy places that have more than a 6 mo. growing period! Angie

I decided to just go ahead and replace the whole thing - but thankyou for the offers. I bought it used in the first place and it didn't have the variable speed working when I bought it off craigslist and that limits a few of the recipies. So the variable speed has opened up a whole new world to me. New 3-point Toddler Adversion System is in place also. Bucket no longer gets stored on ba

All it took was a second...for my Vitamix to be completely destroyed!! Arrgh! If you have a Vitamix and a toddler just don't bother putting it out of reach, put it in another room that is off-limits. I thought it WAS far enough back on the counter... but I was wrong! I was babysitting another 2 year-old (not my own) and as she ran by in a moment of curiosity, she decided to switch the o

Your recommendations? The best one I've found so far is the Nuby with the silicone straw - that has the widest hole for getting smoothie ingredients through. But the flip side of that is the smoothie gets tossed everywhere on the carpet. Ideas?

Hey Eaglefly You wrote: "It seems the world is so steeped in death destruction and misery. I have recently embarked on the raw food journey from a deep feeling that somehow if you consume only living foods it will change reality over to something more positive. My wonderings center around the purely psycological benefits of eating raw,and how it can change mental outlooks."
