Sorry, I didn't see your question until just now. I got my Vitamix from the Vitamix vendor website, under "Special Deals." By the way, what is the deal with the blender container material allegedly not being "safe?"

Hi Well, never being one for delayed gratification, I went ahead and purchased a Vitamix yesterday. I got a good deal on a refurbished Vitamix 5000. : -) thanks for your replies

Hey. : -) I am starting to make green smoothies in my current cheapo blender until I get a fancy powerful one. I have a recipe book ("Green for Life" but it doesn't describe technique. Yesterday I jammed 2 bunches of romaine, a banana, some frozen blueberries and water into the blender carafe and let er rip. Eventually I had liquified greens--sort of--but they required chewing with

the two things that raise HDL the most are 1) exercise and 2) omega 3's especially DHA. There are algae-based DHA supplements available for people who don't want to use fish oil supps.

so far I have heard a) it is about the calories, and that high-fiber diet lowers net calories consumed b) cooked food/wheat etc. creates toxins which causes our body to store fluid (and/or fat) c) alkalinity doesn't promote water storage (less weight) d) raw food diet + the accompanying healthy lifestyle choices is associated with healthier, lower weight people (paraphrasing David M.)

Hi folks I am still mostly in the researching phase as evidenced by the fact that I have not unpacked my new dehydrator from its box... Question is that I've read several accounts of people going raw and more or less effortlessly losing weight over time. So, is this simply because they have reduced their calorie consumption by eating raw? Or is there more to it than that? I can't help but n

It seems to me that news magazine programs frequently air followup retractions, when people contact them to say that their story was incorrect or misleading in some major way. Not stating that the person had anorexia prior to eating raw is exactly that kind of misleading statement. Maybe if several people contacted 20/20 and objected to the dis-information portrayed in their story, they would air

thanks for your replies. : -) I have some 50/50 flaxseed/borage oil at home (cold pressed). I can try that but it may not have as many of the lignans as actual flaxseeds so I'll have to shop for some of those. I also have some Manna bread. On a related note, the personal agreement that we all agree to in order to particpate here, mentions that newly raw folks are "sensitive." Was

I just started this about 5 days ago, trying for ~80% raw. After about day 2 I started to notice that I was having hot flashes, and I didn't have them before on my mostly-all-cooked diet. FWIW, I am 49yo female, health issues include frequent migraines, messed up sinuses, lethargy, and need to lose ~30 lbs. Otherwise I feel fine on this diet other than bored with the food and a bit anxious th

Hey... I'm in Seattle and may also check out that meetup thing you listed. I am just starting out and am having a hard time finding appropriate+tasty things to eat. My competence level is at the "grab a piece of fruit" level and I won't be able to stick it out very long that way.
