Coffee not a food?!?!?! (Well, I agree) But try telling a coffee enthusiast that! LOL! If I had a penny for every person who told me that I'm not eating anything as a Raw foodist... LOL!They are basically telling me that my food is not a food!!! But I digress! Maybe I should have said "Trigger Food/Drinks" As far as the raw foods go, there is nothing (so far) that I really have a

We are all striving one way or another to make the Raw Foods lifestyle our way of living. We are all at various stages of Raw- different percentages, differing nutrition requirements and beliefs... but we all have the same end goal: RADIANT HEALTH and a HAPPY, LONG LIFE! I wanted to open up a dialogue about Trigger Foods, so we might be able to support and learn from the experiences of one an

Actually, in the US we have yams and sweet potatoes. And often times, even in supermarkets, the names are used interchangeably, even though they are completely different produce. SO, any two Americans who say "Yam" might actually be talking about two different things in the same conversation... Here's a good descriptor of the difference: Here too: And check this out for

I would not just eat them because they taste good or change the flavor. I would make sure to do research behind toxic chemicals possibly present in various seeds before you eat them because some seeds have high concentrations of things like the cyanide-sugar compound in Apple seeds which is used by the seed in it's germination process and is pretty much absent in the tree itself, and its fruit.

Update: I soaked the beans for 24.5 hours (it took FOREVER for them to really absorb the water... BIG A** BEANS!!!)... have set them out to sprout. I'll let you all know how it goes!

Hello Lovely People! I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for sprouting books. I am particularly looking for a(some) book(s) with good time tables for soaking. Thanks! -Nyaz

Hello Lovely People, I'm sprouting Fava beans and can't find a reliable online source for soaking time. I am guessing around 18 hours since they are so big, but any time advice would be appreciated. Thanks! -Nyaz

I have a head-cold. The kind where your throat itches, your nose is simultaneously runny and stuffy, and you head vacillates between feeling empty and like it's about to explode. (Oh the joys of Summer changing to Fall in 7 days... IN AUGUST... that was a short battle!!!) Additionally, like most other mere mortals, my rawfoodness also comes and goes. (My conviction and belief in its be

Hello People, Are there any of you raw foodists living in Berlin. I don't know that raw foods have really picked up here... but, seeing as how it's Berlin, I can't imagine it's far off! I would love to meet with people periodically to have raw food dinners together.... it is really hard sticking to it alone (as we all know)... and strength in isolation is more difficult... community helps!

Hello hello! It has been a long while since I have posted on the site... hopefully I am back (to the site and to raw)!!! I was wondering if anyone had advice about dreadlocks, particularly for Caucasian hair. My hair is medium blond with some reddish tones, fine to medium coarseness, a little wavy, but I have a lot of it. I am thinking about dreading my hair, but I want neat, smoother, sma

P.S. If you have an iPhone of iPod touch, there is this program called "Lose it!" that I use, and really like. You don't need to be online to use it. I personally get overwhelmed with stuff like this, so it helps me keep my head wrapped around calorie content without 1) obsessing, 2) freaking about about where and how I am going to calculate the information, and 3) giving up! I do

If your aim is to lose weight, you have to burn more calories than you consume in a day... regardless of the type of food it is. You can eat all veggies, greens and fruits, but if you consume 2000 calories, and only burn 1700, there are 300 extra calories there that hang out waiting to be used by your metabolic system. In short, caloric intake is caloric intake regardless of what you eat. Als

Usually unless the packet specifically states it is raw, it is not. And, although I did not look it up, I doubt Blue Diamond Almonds are raw... they are a commercial bran. Plus, in some states in the USA, there is a law banning nuts to be sold in big stores that have not at least been blanched... this is a requirement to minimize the chance of bacteria or other pathogens contaminating a large

I freeze them with the skin on. If you run then frozen bananas under hot water for a few seconds, it doesn't heat the banana on the inside (it is still raw), and the skin slips off in one cylinder (kind of looks like a condom!! LOL!) Because it is frozen inside, the brief nature of the hot water doesn't affect what is inside. Although, I only do this when making raw ice cream or something l

Thanks for all the kind words, ladies and gents! It was a wonderful experience. And, I definitely realize it is a rare opportunity I had. I am just thankful! As for the preachy potentials.... I don't think that I really go there often.... I know how much it turns people off to start to tell them what they "should" be doing, and I am NEVER looking to convert someone... that's to

I have been keeping up with all the posts lately about frustration with friends and family for either not understanding raw and criticizing the lifestyle, people not taking it/you seriously, people not realizing that the key to their health is in the food they eat, etc. I had an experience last night which might lighten the hearts of those of you who are feeling frustration and isolation as a

I actually eat them like an apple. They are yummy that way! Although, they can be a little messy. But, they are just as good on their own as they are in a recipe.

Hey girl. Network solutions deleted my blog because they thought it was fraudulent.... Hey All (and specifically moderators): Would it be possible to add a forum to the list specifically devoted to Raw Travel? I am coming across many hotels that are Raw friendly (at least at breakfast), and think it would be valuable to have a forum dedicated to it, so people can search by city or country, or whatever. This way, we can all help one another with raw success with out collective

DaisyHair... HANG IN THERE! I am so sorry to hear that you have been sick. Here are some spices that warm the body: Cumin, Cinnamon, Cloves, Tumeric, Nutmeg ...and of course there is ginger, curry, and garam masala I know that traditionally the "warming" spices are used because they increase circulation, thus aiding in digestion which might not be necessary for a raw food

Trive, I too have licked the blade of my food processor... and knives. Maybe not the smartest idea, but when you need that extra bit of yummyness, sometimes you've just got to do it! I love the different combination of foods you come up with when getting creative with raw goods. It always surprises me what goes well together. I mean, it is almost as if anything raw can be paired together. Som
