Sometimes I fall really hard back into factory food. My spirit needs a lot of attention right now and I'm responding with cookies and chips but duh, I should reset with some green smoothies and remember how when it passes, I definitely don't crave or recognize these "foods." Luckily I have experienced what you're talking about, and it feels amazing: to be eating lots of fresh foods and

96 is close enough to 100 for me to be impressed! Then again, there's plenty of SAD people who live that long. Genes and the environment play funny roles. Either way, Jack was an amazing man, mentally and physically. I just got his juicer for Christmas, the Express model. I'm bummed though, it doesn't juice greens whatsoever! When I tried and failed, I thought to myself how Jack would probably be

Mammals are animals. Humans are mammals. We're just as animal as any dolphin or cat. We're just different. I used to refer to humans and animals as different beings, but in the past couple months I've stopped. I'm an animal, any I belong to the human species, specifically Homo sapiens.

You can count the 31st as a year from the day you decided to change your diet to be composed of almost exclusively raw, whole foods. That's what really counts! Since January 2010, when I went from regular vegan to healthy vegan, I've eaten things that don't really fall under the healthy category, but the majority of the time I made healthy choices, and I'm proud of that, and that means more to

I second juicerkatz suggestion. Even when I'm not eating high raw, a green smoothie every morning drastically improves my energy levels and gives me more restful sleep. I blend up kale, water, apples, bananas, etc. It's such an easy way to get a couple servings of raw greens in, and after a few days of drinking them I start waking up before my alarm. I think it's worth a try. Also, when you need

You look great, Rawlion. It makes me so happy that you've remained so dedicated to this way of living, and your results speak for themselves. Your children are lucky to have a father who knows about real human food and proper exercise, that is invaluable. You are an excellent example and source of inspiration. Keep up the good work!

Obviously the government shouldn't have to shell out money for this man's problems. That money I'm assuming comes from taxpaying citizens. At the same time, its unfortunate that he did not recieve the help he needed when he asked for it. Since he's in a better condition now, he probably wants money for emotional damages. Luckily his weight is somewhat back under control. This is a fine example

I'm sure at one point he had control, but just because he's morbidly obese doesn't mean his psychological relationship to food isn't as demented and severe as an anorexic or bulimic persons. Not everyone is mentally connected enough to just put their food down and walk away, and once you are in the habit of overeating, your body expects it, and it becomes a physical matter as well as mental.

Jet Li-there's virtually no harm in the gradual increase of fresh foods to your diet. They are full of easy to assimilate vitamins, and are hydrating at the same time. As you start to eat this way, you will probably notice changes in your body and mind. A diet full of vitamins to help sustain a healthy mind will no doubt help your depression. Also, maybe you could start taking walks or persuing a

Wendy, you're absolutley right. I feel off when I slack on the green smoothies. I plan on drinking them at least semi-regularly for the rest of my life. I think stress was a big factor too. Exams always make me freak out, and I had a pretty tough semester regardless of examinations. I think I'm going to take a trip to the store and get some kale and a good multivitamin, because for now that shoul

Thank you everyone. You don't know how much it means to me to be able to post about eating disorders and my feelings and recieve nothing but loving, thoughtful responses. I've been eating some sprouted bread, eating more normal portions at regular intervals, and trusting my body and not allowing my fears to govern my actions.

I hope I didn't offend you, I eat fruit in the morning too, I just wasn't sure if you were trying to make it work but really didn't feel the best from it. I'm sorry, and I'm glad the advice here is helping you with your health journey.

You are the definition of strong. Your story really goes to show you have no idea about how a person's day or life has been. Very unexpected, but I'm so happy you used this board as an outlet and a resource! That's why we're here! I have so much respect for you. So many people in situations like yours misdirect their feelings and become substance abusers, but you seem to have remained optimistic,

Not on a regular basis but I have before haha. I was just desperate for stimulation I think. I think it depends on what you're trying to achieve. If you want your body to store fat, eating fat before you sleep would probably help you more than eating fat before a workout. For me, avocados digest like a banana, so I don't eat them and immediately gain weight, whereas eating the equivalent in nut b

I hate salvia. It's a very interesting plant, but it has no recreational value to me. I'm glad I've gotten to experience it... multiple times, but I think because it's legal and treated as an alternative to weed, a lot of people who are 18 go out and try it and realize it can be a terrible experience. I don't think it should be illegal, but I wish that people knew more about all of the possible e

I think it's a combination from not drinking enough water, wearing pants, not eating a variety and not coming from an ideal diet as of this year, and stress? Either way, that was an informative article. My sister had has eczema and what I have looks like dry skin that hasn't been washed. But the hair follicle thing is weird. I lost the hair on my wrists around when I first started eating high raw

It's called "spliffing" or a spliff, which is a tobacco-marijuana mix, usually rolled into a joint. People who smoke blunts, which is marijuana in tobacco paper, are smoking tobacco also. Pipes are good for only marijuana, and vaporizers are the best because they do not burn the plant, only heat it enough to produce vapors. Anyway, biotechnology sucks. It has done some great things,

Thank you. Yes, I've improved greately in the self love and forgiveness department, and my situation really isn't that bad/dire, and I always eat enough and maybe a little too much but nothing like I used to. I think I just need to get my nutrients in check and remember that doing the things I "wish" I could do makes me feel good, and doing things like overeating makes me very anxious.

Hi everyone. I'm a 20 year old female. I have been vegan for a year and a half and have excluded meat from my diet for the most part since I was 12. I grew up eating typical American food, and my diet as a teenager was horrid. Anyway, in 2010 I cut out all of the junk and greatly increased the percentage of raw foods, making lots of green smoothies and experimenting with different veggies, and as

You're right, I'm referring to dried ones. I'm really curious as to how they taste. Dried figs are good, but fresh figs are glorious. I'm assuming fresh dates are even creamier and sweeter than their dried counterparts.

It can be hard to stay on a raw diet, but a couple tips I can think of would be to make a list of all of the benefits you've experienced while eating raw, and all of the symptoms you dealt with before you did (ex: raw-more energy, clearer head, softer skin, better sleep, not raw-achy joints, dandruff, hard to get going in the morning, head fog ). Maybe you could try some new recipes? Green sm

I LOVE DATES. I buy them from the bulk bin at WF, very hit or miss, but when I get really soft ones, I'm in disbelief at how amazing they are. I'm glad I know they exist, they're much more suitable "sweets" than any dessert I ate in the past. I hope one day I find myself in the middle east where I can find vendors that only sell dates!

Through eating a high percentage of raw foods coupled with the exclusion of all preserved/processed foods I have managed and almost eliminated the KP on my arms and thighs, gotten rid of the circles under my eyes, hydrated my skin, I wake up before my alarm, I feel clear headed and optimistic, I don't experience bipolar syndrome anymore, my tongue is pink, not white, my hair is healthier, I can s

Above all, follow your body's instincts and remember that you're probably already eating a pretty healthy diet. Increasing the amount of raw foods is excellent and I hope you don't ever feel like you "should" eat only fruit for breakfast because raw diet dogma reccomends it. That being said, it takes a little time to adjust to eating "lighter" foods that assimilate quickly. I'

I'm a huge fan of coconut date rolls, or any variation of that. You could pulse whatever nuts + cranberries in a blender and roll them into balls. Something like that would probably go over well, be super easy to make, and probably be relatively inexpensive.

FYI, it's not vegan, so this thread will probably get deleted. It is also not raw. This is a raw vegan forum, so perhaps baking forums (if they exist?) would be of more use to you. One idea I can think of is french toast, maybe you could dip the bread in creamer instead of egg. Good luck.
