Here in Newfoundland, transplanted brocolli, cauliflower, cabbage, tomato, and greens (chois) all started from seed when I arrived. The other day put into a little makeshift greenhouse transplanted melons, cukes, zuchs. Waiting for peas, carrots, beets to sprout. Saw spinach and lettuces little cots. Until I come to a computer again, 007

I do not have one and do not use one. Right now I am trying to get away without a blender. I have found a hand cranked one online, the Vortex. And I cut my fruits and veggies by hand. Trying to live without power.

Just a little for now for I am in a remote part of northern Canada for the summer, yes growing gardens. I am trying to adapt organic seed to a coastal Newfoundland climate. The best book that I have found on seed saving is 'Seed to Seed' by Suzanne Ashworth. Another excellent book about plants in general is 'The Secret Life of Plants' by Peter Tomkins. And have you heard about the Gardens at

stop cooking. it was wierd at first for me, but then I got the hang of it, just putting real food in my mouth. Seriously though, green smoothies rock: fruit, leafy greens and a little water in the blender. A great meal or snack. Make sure you chew it anyway.

I just posted a new topic in the 'Organic Gardening' forum list on seed saving. Just a little note for those interested in starting to save their own seed. If you like I can continue that thread there with more information.

I have been studying saving seed now for about 3 years. Some plants can cross with others in the same family. I learned the hard way that tat soi and wild mustard can mix. It was ok, just a spicy, hairy tat soi. Also carrot and wild carrot (queen anne's lace). So I have learned to isolate when necessary. Having fun learning!

banana who, that was my experience, after a while the plant died back. Now what I have is an 'everlasting' green onion (scallion) that I started from seeds in a deep pot that I continually cut back (harvest), and it continues to thrive. I have just seperate the roots recently and gave some away for another to pot up. Chives are in the onion family along with leeks, garlic, and shallots.

The most common type of stone contains calcium. Calcium that is not used by the bones and muscles goes to the kidneys. In most people, the kidneys flush out the extra calcium with the rest of the urine. People who have calcium stones keep the calcium in their kidneys. The calcium that stays behind joins with other waste products to form a stone. The most common combination is called calcium oxala

rab, I only mentioned spring greens, yet many roots and young shoots are also available at this time of year. I saw Sergei Boutenko prepare green smoothies with the young tops of evergreen trees. He is very into wild greens and has some new materials out (http://greenforlife.com/green-smoothie-and-wild-edible-videos.htm. Not much on here but a few fast pictures.) In the summer greens, flowe

For wild edible identification I always use at least 3 resources. In addition to the above mentioned books, some others in my library also include Peterson Field Guides to Edible Wild Plants, also Peterson's Medicinal Plants, and wildflower identification books. I have been studying this subject for about 6 years now. It started with wildflower identification, collecting specimens of flowers a

I don't like plastic. I have been trying to work out similar systems using natural materials, like glazed lined clay pots with holes in the bottom, and trays, with water, and worm castings for fertilizer, and mulch (straw, sawdust, leaf mold) for the top layer. My plants are growing. This is the first year for this for me.

The liver is just like any other organ. The whole body needs nutrient rich raw foods and it will heal itself. The healing process can sometimes be difficult, releases of toxic substances from the body. I only know my body, and it responds much better to real foods.
