Great input, thanks everyone! No doubt we will lean toward the country. Trees sing to me and I think the closeness and noise of the city will eventually wear me down. As for my kids, well they'll do what I tell them to. Lol, not really but yes in a way. They will adapt and thrive as children are meant to. Of course it helps that they are still young enough to be adaptable. Oh and La_Ver

My husband and I are going back and forth on something concerning our desire and need to stay environmentally aware and self sustainable but also avoid the yuppie trendiness of said movement. Right now our main dilemma is trying to decide whether to live in the city or on a farm when we are out of our current situation. City life is sustainable, life without a car is entirely possible - mass

Not an inventor, just really poor. Its not ideal but it keeps the food at the right temp so its ok for right now. What it is: I replaced the appliance bulb in my oven with a 75w bulb and positioned a battery powered small fan inside the oven. I keep an oven thermometer in the oven for air temp and occasionally test the temp of the food too. Works pretty well, I just have to remember to check

Definitely hiking, preferably for days at a time but barring that walking will do the trick. I'm not a runner. I also have a workout dvd that doesn't make me do any fancy dance moves (i'm terribly uncoordinated) which helps when I am stuck inside.

I am sure there is a recipe like this because I doubt I created it all on my own but I love it so much I want to share. It is neutral enough to be used for sandwiches and hearty enough to satisfy that bread craving. 1/2 c sprouted buckwheat 1/2 c flax seeds pinch salt 1 TBSP olive oil 2 TBSP raw honey 1/4-1/2 c water Process the buckwheat so it is a flour - do the same thing with the f

I still cook for my husband and son. I make them healthy cooked non-veg entrees and usually also try to make ones that will stretch a couple days so I only need to cook about 3 nights a week. My husband loves what I'm doing and is fully supportive and that is all I need from him - I don't need him to go raw. He is really healthy as it is and I am not dogmatic about things - his diet works for hi

I passed the 3 week mark yesterday and am just starting to feel my hunger wane slightly. I am allowing myself to eat as much as I want when I want and I am still losing 2 pounds a week and feeling the benefits. I too am about 75% raw I would say - I add a little quinoa and cooked summer squash to my diet (I am still breastfeeding my little one so not trying to detox or get too extreme). I would

I agree with simplifying. I tried this once before but didn't stick with it because I was too focused on making the recipes and not on just enjoying eating. Green smoothies are so easy and are easily the staple of the diet. I don't think I could have combatted cravings without the green smoothie. Other than that, just enjoy and don't get too hung up on all the little details. Its actually prett

Thanks for the well wishes! My husband is military so the referral process is taking forever. I personally avoid too much iodine because I have heard the same thing. I also avoid cruciferous veggies and too many almonds or flax because both of those can be goitergenic. Soy is a major no-no but obviously not eating that right now either. As far as causes for hypothyroid, I know mine is h

I'm pretty sure the goiter was caused by Hashimoto's. I am also pretty sure I am not deficient in iodine. I live in America and was on a standard SAD diet throughout the pregnancy. However, is there an easy way to test iodine levels? Just curious.

I use natural family planning. I chart my cycles by taking my temperature every morning and use a diaphragm if we have sex during my fertile window. Its not as hard as remembering to take a pill and I don't have to worry about hormones. There are some great books and websites out there that will give information. Of course, I am married so I'm not worried about diseases so this only works for p

Hi. I have been a lurker here for awhile and stumbled on this thread. I have Hashimoto's as well and possibly thyroid cancer - I am waiting on the dr and results. I started raw as a way to heal my thyroid or at least combat the negative effects. I too take thyroid medicine but it wasn't doing anything for me. My thyroid problem is hereditary and exacerbated by my last pregnancy. I also have a go
