Hi and welcome to the site. I think it is great that you have made this decision and that your doctor is supporting you. Not only will you and your partner improve your health, but you will be setting a wonderful example for your daughter as she grows up. I'm sure everyone has a different story about how they got into the raw food lifestyle, but my advice to newbies is to transition gradually

What is a dry fast? I'm not familiar with that term. You will find plenty of support on this site. There are a lot of very knowledgable and dedicated people here. Best of luck.

Hi Nikki, I'm Catherine and I live in Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA. Congratulations on going raw. I've tried it off and on over the years, but finally got committed to it this summer and I feel great, too. You are definitely not alone and this is a great place to get support and information. There are also a lot of great books on raw foods as well as much info on the internet. Do you live

Hi Melinna, We are about the same age. I'll be 64 in October. I've flirted with raw foods off and on over the years, but this year I got serious about it. Started transitioning in January and I'm now 90-95% raw. I have just about totally healed a painful, swollen arthritic knee and have lost 35 pounds. I'm back at the weight I was in my 20's and I'm wearing a size 4. Have so much energy an

I'm in Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA. I add that because a lot of people don't know New Mexico is one of the 50. Anyway, Santa Fe is very raw food/healthy living friendly. We have 2 Whole Foods, 2 Sunflowers, 1 local co-op market and a thriving farmers market that's open 3 days a week. I've been about 90% raw for 3 months after transitioning slowly since January. The more raw I eat the better I

Are you drinking lots of water? Often, the body signals that it is hungry when really it is dehydrated. You need to be drinking 2 to 4 litres of water daily. When you feel hungry, try drinking a full glass of water. If you are eating meat for the protein, you might want to try adding protein powder to your juices and smoothies instead. There are lots of good ones out there including hemp a

Welcome to the site. Lots of great information and support here. I live in Santa Fe, New Mexico where there is a fairly large raw food community. I am finding, as I talk about this path with others and they see how eating raw has improved my health an energy, that more people are taking an interest in eating more consciously. I love sharing what I have learned - and I, too, love mangoes.

I've been using a Cuisinart for 3 years now and have been very satisfied with it. Has anyone used the Cuisinart mini FP? I'm thinking about getting one for my daughter who doesn't have much space and prepares food for one. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with a mini.

I'm looking at dehyrators and wondering what other people are using. I had a Nesco a few years back, but wasn't completely satisfied. Didn't like the round design so I'm looking at the square models now. Would love some input on what you have used and how you would rate your machine.

MY RAW FOOD JOURNEY On January 1, 2011, I began the new year by eliminating refined sugar from my diet. That meant, of course, cutting out all foods that include any refined sugar. I started really reading labels and was taken aback by the fact that almost all prepared foods have refined sugar as an ingredient. So I immediately started eating more fresh foods that I prepared myself. It also

Definitely celebrate. I have osteoarthritis in my knee and thumbs. I've been easing into a raw food diet for several months and I'm now about 90% raw. I haven't had pain in my thumbs for at least 2 months and the pain and swelling in my knee have decreased by well over 50%. I'm considering trying a juice fast to see if I can get the knee back to normal. Your experience with your RA is enco

It can be difficult if you try to make the transition too quickly. I tried going raw about three years ago, but plunged right in instead of making a gradual change and was not able to keep it up. I am currently about 90% raw, but this time I make small, incremental changes starting with cutting processed sugar out of my diet. Of course, that included any processed foods containing sugar or hig

Thanks for the avocado suggestion. I usually eat an avocado a day. It would be great in the juice. Catherine

I found that film on netflix and watched it this evening. Very inspiring. I have been thinking about doing a juice fast myself and watching this nudged me a little more in that direction. The only thing I don't really want to do is lose any more weight. I have already lost 34 lbs. just eating fresh and raw and I'm down to 122 lbs. While I would like to cleanse, I don't want to get below 120.

Hi Nayana, I just joined this site and one of my hopes was to correspond with like-minded people in other countries as well as the US. I live in Santa Fe, New Mexico and have been doing serious (@ 80%) fresh and raw eating for a couple of months. I've been easing into it since the beginning of the year. I have been on partial raw food diets in the past, but have gotten really serious about it

I have flirted with the raw food lifestyle several times in the past, but have only gotten really serious about it recently. Have been eating about 80% fresh/raw for around 2 months now. I've lost weight, feel energized and don't have food cravings. The inflammation and pain in my right knee have lessened dramatically. Glad I found this site. I'm always looking for new recipes and for supp
