hey everyone, this may seem a really dumb question to you, but English is not my mother tongue (I'm Dutch/French) and all the books on raw food I'm reading are in English. to me, all 'vegetables' are vegetables, but the raw foods book I'm reading refer to certain types of vegetables as 'greens'. so what i considered a 'green'? I think kale and spinach are considered 'greens'.....what more?

thanks for replying David. it's true: I feel good about it, and that counts too. this breakfast drink gives me nearly a litre of fluids, which I drink throughout the whole morning. it gives me a great boost and a lot of satisfaction. I'm just worried about OD-ing on fruit sugars :-)

I was wondering if there is a 'limit' to the amount of fresh orange juice one should drink in a day. lately I've been making the same breakfast-drink every day, which has the juice of 4 or 5 fresh oranges (together with a lemon, a banana, flax seed, bee pollen etc.). is 4-5 oranges a day too much, when it comes to sugars? or is it perfectly safe? I know there are people who go days with drinki

thank you for answering; the more details the better! it's an inspirational story and recognizable at points. I'm glad it's finally working out for you. all the best!

Mislu, I'm touched by your story; it sounds so exciting and inspirational. may I ask how long this 'journey' has been: when did you start with raw and did you go 100% directly or did you do it gradually?

you're not stepping on my toes, it's just that I've seen people eat it on a regular basis...that's all I wanted to point out. I've never tried it myself; I'm curious about it, but I'm a bit puzzled about the apparent contradiction of horrible smell - great taste. funny that you mention you're French; I have a Dutch father and a French mother.

durian is a fruit that's been around for ages, it's not a trend. it has always been a populair fruit in (SE) Asian countries. Holland, where I live, has a big Indonesian community and Asian markets here always sell lots of durians. I never tasted one but I smelled one, ha. I heard someone once describe the taste as 'custard-like'; never heard of the onion-garlic comparison.

thanks for your answer. I liked the point you made about dehydrating....it's something that is puzzling me since quite some recipes contain dehydrated elements, and the more 'gourmet' you go, the more you seem to need it. I personally have a weird feeling about it, but I never did it or ate it apart from dried fruit and tomatos. so I can't really judge. plus it's not on-topic.

hemp leaf as well as hemp seeds have nothing to do with 'hemp, the drug'. hemp is also used to make clothes and paper. in Europe, hemp seeds are perfectly legal, I assume the same goes for the US?

fresh, I agree with you. and of course, questions about honey on a vegan site are kinda obviously 'out of place', but the question asked here about what amount of macca to use seemed pretty accurate to me. I'm a newbie when it comes to raw food, and that may have a lot to do with it, but I do sometimes feel that some people here have a certain 'elitist' attitude when it comes to raw food. I unde

rankdurian; could you let us know what your experiences with macca are/will be? I'm curious about trying it myself. right now I occasionally use raw chocolate and hemp seeds in my breakfast smoothies, and I eat goji berries, which are delicious. "I figured that this was supposed to be a place where one could ask a question and not be made to feel silly." - I know what you mean.

I'm trying to transform my (vegetarian) diet into a raw vegan diet as well, and it can indeed be hard to resist cooked food and (sweet) snacks. I sometimes have intense cravings, stronger than what I used to have when i still ate cooked without thinking about it. if I do give in to them, I sometimes feel bad afterwards (depending on the type of food and the amount), but I try not to 'punish' myse

it's a good point, and very familiar to all of us. I'm afraid the judgements from the 'outside' world will never end. I'm not a 100% raw foodist (yet), but I have been a vegetarian for 23 years now (I'm 29). also, I stopped drinking alcohol when I was 18. I don't know which of the two seems more 'offensive' to people, but both things have been getting on people's nerves for unclear reasons. for

aquadecoco, I'm sure you don't mean in that way, but your response sounds a bit belittling. it's great that your mind seems to be doing all that by itself, but that does not necessarily count for everyone. personally, I have always had a clear mind and a great memory, but I got a severe depression two years ago (I'm 29), and the results were quite devastating. I came to a point where I couldn

maybe melting it au bain marie is a good way? you'd have to keep track of the temperature though, but it could work.

wow, I'm surprised by this, especially considering the current popularity of raw cacao and books like 'Naked Chocolate' by David Wolfe and Shazzie. I just ordered (and received) a small bag of raw cacao nibs, to try out. I added a spoon of it in a fruit smoothie this morning, and I think it made me slightly 'buzzy', in a pleasant way though. I had no idea it could be so damaging to the body, I'

this post makes me smile.....I find myself constantly surprised by the abundance of happiness and cheerfulness exposed here. great, keep it up! apparently raw food really makes you a 'better' person. (I'm still starting out, so I have a lot to look forward to) I just finished making a fruit smoothie with hemp seeds, goji berries and raw cacao (I'm not sure this combination is 'correct', I'm ex

Hi everyone, I just received three bags of superfoods that I ordered through the mail: goji-berries, raw cacao nibs and hemp seeds (not peeled). I was planning to store them on my kitchen counter, so they're within reach, but I only have transparant glass jars. Can I keep these superfoods in transparant glass jars in daylight, or should they be stored in the dark?

I figured it would have something to do with the detox-effect... I'll try to be more patient, ha. Thank you, Selenes512 So far I've ordered a few more books, one of which is the '12 Steps...' book. I hope to arrive soon, can't wait to delve more into this!

Thank you all, for your help and advice. It is highly appreciated! For the past 3 weeks I have started by 'just' adding more fruit, vegetables, nuts and sprouts to my diet. Most days I'm around 50% raw, but I already notice such a difference. The main reason for me to try this, is my bout with depression. I have been suffering from depression for two years now, and as I have not been taken any

Hi everyone, I hope you can all help me by giving me some advice. I want to start (slowly) on a raw vegan diet, but I have trouble deciding where (and how) to start. I'm the kind of person who likes to read thoroughly about food and nutrition; so far I have purchased 'The Raw Food Detox Diet', but nothing else yet. I have checked out a lot of websites and blogs, and am amazed by the amount of
