Mmm! Avocados, young coconuts, avocados, cantaloupe melons, figs, durians (for some)….have you ever thought that you might simply have moved from being ‘food-obsessed’ to ‘raw food-obsessed’? Nah, not you! Do you ever feel you might be thinking about food, your diet, just a little too much? Do you find yourself constantly nibbling (so many tasty foods in the fridge, and you’re

Hi Joanne In eighteen months of raw, I've never worried about whether I have enough iodine. I'm not making light of your question- it's just that I firmly believe that, once raw, we have to worry far less about whether we're getting enough of this or that (if at all). Here's an article I wrote on this subject. Love Debbie Took www.rawforlife.co.uk

Hi I don't think 'once a days most days' is out of line with your current 85% raw diet. Looking at what you eat, there's not much in terms of quantity. When I was 75% raw I went once day, occasionally twice (but I ate a lot more than you do). In those early months I used to find that nut-rich/'gourmet' raw dishes made my bowels freeze! So watch out for them (although it doesn't sound as

Haven't got time to read the paper unfortunately. Just quick comment - I see it is 'captive apes' we are talking about. Had they been given cooked food before? It is quite possible for a creature brought up on cooked food to come to prefer it over the pure and natural, for its taste buds to be perverted and deceived into preferring damaged food. Happens all the time...:-) Love Deb

There are also very many well-documented examples of raw vegans thriving without B12 supplements. See giveittomeraw.com for a thread I started on this. It's probably not worth arguing it further. I believe the 100% raw food diet is healthier than a part-raw diet, although a part-raw diet is light years ahead in terms of health than a diet with little raw in it. People who choose to eat some

'Light steaming does minimal damage but makes uptake of some nutrients easier. I think this is Fuhrman's stance as well: that the emphasis should be on vegetables with a mix of raw and cooked rather than completely raw.' Yes, it would be Fuhrman's stance, because he is not a raw foodist. He simply doesn't want to give up eating his cooked food (as is the case with 99% of the world, and

I'd rather have the lycopene in my tomato working with the other things in the tomato in the proportions nature intended. I believe that no food is 'better for us' cooked. I've written an article on this if anyone's interested, at Love, Debbie Took

Missing a period after going raw may not be NORMAL, but there is a body of opinion that believes PERIODS may be NORMAL, but they are not necessarily HEALTHY! eg ovulation = healthy, but periods = not necessarily healthy... It's a radical view of menstruation, but a very interesting one. You may never worry about missing a period again. I have a long collection of notes on this that I go

I disagree with some posters here. I believe diet has everything to do with 'hormonal' acne. Note - I'm not saying that hormones aren't INVOLVED.. Until you have been 100% raw for several months, you cannot be sure that it is not specific foods in the cooked 10% of your diet that your body is desperately trying to eliminate through the skin. The very foods that we cling on to can be the o

Hi Debbie Took here! I don't look into this forum much, great though it is (you know how it is - too little time, too many forums!) but thanks to Rawdancer UK for posting the link to my article on Essene Bread. The article previous to that (called 'Wheat Part I - Give (Raw, Sprouted) Wheat a Chance' is at: and discusses raw, sprouted wheat v cooked wheat. I do know that many,

Hi Just thought you might like to know that Vitamixes in the UK are, I believe, even more expensive than in the US, ie even taking into account the exchange rate. A Vitamix with the dry jug is £575. For comparison purposes the price of a Big Mac in the UK (not that anyone on this forum will know anything about Big Macs of course!) is £2, and the average annual salary is around £25,000.
