First, let me say that I would not be a member of these forums if I espoused the killing and eating of animals..Period.. Second, I fully admit to being verbose..There!!!..I said it!!!..I love language and I love to use language in conversations, both virtual, and in person..I especially like to converse here, and on several photography forums where the level of discourse is generally high..

liberation I apologize for hijacking your thread, but this is something I feel needs to be said, and I wanted to say it within the context of your thread.. debbietook The point that Stalking Wolf was trying to make with Tom Brown & Rick was that ALL life on the planet is sacred..Period!!!..That putting a higher value on the life of a deer because it resembles we humans, than on the l

liberation Here is my take on your question.. Going by the very strict interpretation of vegan that you seem to be leaning towards, then the answer is no.. Whenever I hear this question arise amongst vegans I am reminded of something that Tom Brown teaches in his classes, and writes about in some of his books..BTW, I have attended his Basic Class.. When Tom Brown and his childhood fri

coco I credit my Neti pot with weaning me off of antihistamines 100% since July 2006.. I had taken OTC antihistamines since I was 9 years old..From 1992 through 2006 I pretty much took them year round for sinus congestion and pain..Even though I do not use the Neti pot as often as I should, it has made an astounding difference in the quality of my life.. I took me three months after purc

Lois Thanks for the thoughts!!!.. As soon as finances allow in 2009 I intend to purchase through mail order, and over the internet, the lye, oils, and additives that will allow me to start making soaps again from scratch.. I would like to make hard bar soap, liquid hand soap that will dispense from pump bottles, and shaving soaps with clays added.. I tend not to care too much for stro

Richard Right this minute I am not raw..The only times I have been successful for any length of time I was able to be alone in a house without the temptations as I began the transition.. I consider myself addicted to cooked food..As a recovering marihuana addict, 1983 to 2008, I understand completely what a transition / detox is all about..For me kicking cooked foods is harder by a magnitud

I firmly believe that there are individuals that probably experience fewer, and less severe, detox symptoms switching from cooked foods to a raw vegan diet than the average person making the switch does..There are also likely the occasional very rare individuals that experience no detox symptoms at all when switching.. I firmly believe that the remainder of the people switching from cooked foo

loeve Congratulations on a successful coconut whipped cream..I meant what I said when I admire the chefs that are willing to think outside of the box in order to accomplish un-cooking tasks such as this.. The philosophical aspects of raw vegans creating raw versions of cooked animal-based foods is one that tends to get glossed over..I believe that it is psychologically harmful long-term to

The point that I was trying to make is that if athletes participating in sports where the human body experiences extreme physical demands were able to compete successfully within their sport against cooked food eaters while consuming a raw vegan diet, then there would be no excuses for other humans with less demanding needs to question the raw diet.. I respectfully disagree with you Todd that

I am 54 years old.. I cannot recall ANY person, adult or child, that was allergic to nuts while I was growing up..I am sure that in the 1950's, 1960's, and 1970's there must have been some people that were allergic to nuts..But, they were exceedingly rare..Same applies to milk allergies..There were more of these folks around in those days than were those allergic to nuts..But, again they were

I think it would be even more interesting than using bodybuilders to take several world-class marathoners, long-distance runners (50 miles plus), cross-country skiers, and long-distance bicyclists (Tour de France, etc.) and see if athletes in these sports could sustain winning careers while eating a 100% raw vegan diet.. Athletes in these sports possess body types closer to Richard Blackman's

As a chef I can tell you that trying to approximate certain foods like whipped cream in a fully 100% raw version can be a very, very hard struggle.. In my opinion, it is a fools errand to spend the inordinate amounts of time and money in trying to accomplish tasks like these.. I have a lot of admiration for the cooks / chefs that have elevated raw food preparation to the high standards that

Coco's original post on this subject dated 10-04-2008.. I made my first batch several days later on 10-07-08, I believe.. My original thoughts were that it worked just as well as commercial products, whether eco-friendly or conventional.. Nothing in the ensuing two months plus has led me to change my mind in this regard.. I made my second batch today as the first will gone by the end

Try the following link aka The Soap Making Forum.. Just identify yourself as a raw vegan with a desire to make laundry soap that is as mild as possible for your baby.. The folks here have been helpful to me as I transition back into making vegan bar soap for myself.. Eleven years ago I used whatever ingredients I could get, although most tended to be vegan due to circumstance, not de

Richard I think that you look great.. For the life of me I cannot understand why so many men feel that we all should stand 6 feet 4 inches tall, weigh in at 230 pounds, & look like Arnold Schwarzenegger.. I learned an essential lesson during my three years in the U.S. Army..Big. tall, muscular men that are very fit have to work A LOT harder than do small, short, equally muscular &

suncloud Will send Juliano an e-mail re. bees & honey.. Juliano misrepresenting honey as being vegan is just another lie in a long line of lies by contemporary chefs over the past 20-30 years as they mis-label or misrepresent foods as being something that they are not.. I will not attempt to cite cooked food specifics as this is a raw vegan forum.. It started in the United States

I always tell people to check out the Goodwill, thrift stores, Salvation Army, etc.. Some incredibly good deals can be had in these places.. One just has to set a regular schedule whereby one visits the store on a regular basis.. Check out pawn shops, yard sales, & even e-Bay for bargains, as well.. Congrats on your good buys!!!!.. Bruce

The problem that I have, if you can call it a real problem, with the entire raw movement is that I constantly read the words "a lot", or "most people", or "the majority", & other similar phrases when people that I respect as being more knowledgeable than I am refer to various health aspects of the raw vegan diet.. What I seldom see is attributable sources for

I believe that confrontation seldom works as a strategy for changing another person's mind.. In my experience of 54 years on this planet I would estimate that confrontation is less than 10% effective as a means of change..Perhaps as little as 1-2% effective.. IMO, the main reason that humans elect for confrontation is so that the person doing the confronting can feel good about themselves..

We in the raw vegan movement have got to realize, sooner or later, that a very large segment of the potential converts to the raw vegan diet ARE NOT going to approach converting to it from the ethical treatment of animals point-of-view.. Instead, they will initially approach converting from a SAD, cooked diet to a raw vegan diet simply from a health perspective.. This is not to say that man

As raw vegans I believe that we need, as individuals & as a collective whole, to decide whether or not we are going to reject everything about that "other" society.. You know, the one where 99.99999% of the rest of the planet chooses to eat cooked food..The one where 98.99999% of the planet chooses to eat the meat from animals & insects..The one that conducts scientific exper

I am going to postulate a theory.. Which, is that people that live to advanced ages in spite of smoking, eating cooked foods, not exercising, etc. simply have immune systems that are able to function at peak efficiency regardless of lifestyle habits.. All of the diseases, bacteria, viruses, etc. simply cannot establish a toehold within their bodies because their white blood cells attack &am

They say all great movements start at the grass roots level..As raw vegans we are increasingly coming to the realization that if we want produce that is petrochemical-free, organic, & chock-o-block full of enzymes, minerals, sugars, & starches (in other words, nutrient dense); then we are going to have to be willing to take on the task of growing a large portion of our yearly produce need

You might try putting a tumbler composter (or your cans) on the patio & covering it with several old comforters (2-4) purchased at the Good Will or Salvation Army stores..A waterproof tarp over the comforters would keep everything dry & help the comforters to retain their insulation value..You also might try scrounging some rigid foam building insulation, & put several 1" thick p

I should have mentioned that I always recommend a comprehensive soil test performed by a lab that specializes in ORGANIC farming..This way you will know what amendments to apply..Rock powders, limestone, kelp meal, cottonseed meal, etc.. Without the soil test, EVERYTHING that you do to amend & enrich the soil will be more or less, hit or miss..Some things will work, many others will not; &

Composting in a can is the most problematic way to compost..It is so so easy to create an anaerobic situation where there is not sufficient oxygen for the bacteria to break down the organic matter..Believe me you will immediately know if an anaerobic situation arises as it will smell like an outhouse, that is to say like ammonia.. When I was speaking of the can in my above post I was referring

All plastics leach, it just depends to what degree..When you get right down to it, the only safe things to store food in that are inert are glass & certain kinds of ceramics.. The problem is that we have transitioned from a rural agricultural society that purchased its foods fresh every day, or every other day; to an urban society that wants to do its shopping for fresh foods only once a

Well-aged compost that is over a year old made with the slower, traditional Indore method will usually reduce in volume by approximately 50%..This reduction usually takes from between 1.5-2 years to accomplish.. Rapidly made compost usually reduces in volume further than compost made by slower methods as the super active bacteria in the rapid methods consume more of the organic material..Figur
