XD THIS just gave me some GREAT ideas. This is a great way to make myself eat the loose thin greens. I really prefer the thick (filling?) vegetables, but there's just not very many of them - and a lot of them aren't very nutrient-dense (honestly, what is the point of potatoes). And for someone who is gluten-free and vegan, an aversion to leaf vegetables just isn't going to work out. This shredded

This sounds delicious, and I like that it opens up some interesting new doors for manipulation. Obviously this version is going to need cinnamon, because everything needs cinnamon . But it will be interesting what could be done if you put whole cashews through the Vitamix too, to make it extremely creamy. Or make green pudding - like green smoothies, except thick and with a spoon!

I'm definitely going to have to try this out. Sunflower seeds would make an almost magic taste to try to work with for tortilla or maybe even pizza crust. And I sincerely cannot bear to use spring roll rice wraps with Mexican food ever again. It's a stark abomination.

Bump for ideas along a similar thread but that don't use a dehydrator? With fruit, I add it into something that resembles oatmeal (but is made of other grains and seeds - because I'm gluten-free), but it isn't very appealing to do with the any vegetable leavings..

I do sort-of the same thing, for rice pudding, except soak the rice the night before so that it's roughly the texture that it should be if it was cooked. then put the rice through the Vitamix, first, so you can get it finer than everything else. I still add apples at the end, so that it has sweet lumps in it.

I actually did it accidentally the first time. I missed some cut pieces on my cutting board, and found them the next morning, dried up into red pepper jerky. It smelled even stronger than the fresh red peppers, so I couldn't resist popping it into my mouth. I chopped the rest of it into thin slivers and put it into a wrap. Maybe the trick is to leave it in the hot sun for hours!

Rawlion, thanks for the tip about Forks over Knives. I've never read the study and am looking forward to hearing more about it. There really is a lot of contradicting and probably opinion-based information about B12 going around. I hope this fixes it.

I particularly enjoy how he doesn't know the difference between "mental retardation" (which, btw, I thought we were calling an "intellectual disability) and "brain fog". He complains that research is wrong, and demonstrates its falseness by contrasting his own personal experiences.

LoL, and all that gardening made you lose so much weight? AHA! And "guerilla myceliating"- words I've never heard before, and could not be more thrilled by. I've seen school and community groups putting out seed bombs, and they don't seem to understand that that really doesn't lead to those seeds growing any more than just throwing dried seeds on a road does. Considering the amount of p

From the sounds of it, there is sincerely no way that this is going to last "until no longer sticky". This is another one of those recipes that says "makes 24 cookies, but doesn't take into account how delicious the ingredients are, and then when you're done tasting and prep, you only have 15 cookies left. My dreams are made of fruit leather.

With regards to the "medicine vs. food" discussion - in my view, a medicine is someting you take specifically with the purpose of treating an illness, so any food or drink can become a medicine if used for medicinal purposes. I wouldn't say spices are food, but rather food additives with nutritional properties. Meaning that we don't use them for sustenance, but only to improve our f

Well, if you have done this for a long time, then your body is already trained to store more calories in the liver and muscles and your heart to whitstand prolonged effort when compared to us ordinary mortals. Running is a great cardio exercise. However, given that you frequently do this type of resistance training, i'm guessing that you need to consume a lot of slow release carbs and also st

It's all over the news, kind of hard to ignore even if you're not into healthy nutrition. I guess this idea is just so bizarre that many people don't really know what to make of it. However, i think it raises a lot of questions and brings up a lot of topics that deserve to be discussed publicly. We do need to stop animal cruelty. Some of the things that go on in pig farms and chicken farm

I must admit I am somewhat fascinated by the idea of using a single type of veggie to do a cleanse. Is there any particular reason why you chose only carrots? Why not add other things to the carrot smoothie? How long do you plan to stay on this cleanse? Also, is it safe to eat carrots only for a longer period of time, especially if you're someone who tends to lead quite an active life? If

I'm not sure if this is ironic or downright frightening. Of course you can't pin a man's heart attack on a single meal, clearly in most cases people with a history of unhealthy eating are at a high risk of coronary heart disease. What's shocking is that the restuarant owners somehow think it is humorous that there's an obesity pandemic in America and that people are actually dying exactly beca

If you're interested in adding probiotics to your diet, you can prepare 100% vegan kefirs using just water, coconut water, coconut milk or other nut milks. Probiotics are actually just good bacteria that ferment the sugars in whatever product you add them to, so they dont necessarily need animal milk to work their magic. Below you may findsome neat recipes that can help you prepare your own p

As far as i know, different changes occur depending on the cooking method used. Boiling or steaming are believed to be the least harmful ways of cooking because you only get to lose vitamins (which dissolve in the water or evaporate in the steam). other cooking methods, such as frying and baking, lead to the formation of acrylamides (that browning you see on baked food) which is basically a b

Hey there! How about a pineapple and coconut milk smoothie? You can make the coconut milk from scratch, in a simlar fashion to nut milk. Check this recipe out: And if you're tired of smoothies, why don't you try making coconut kefir? I personally prefer this version to water kefir, it is so much more flavorful: . But just in case you might want to give it a try, here's the water kefir r

This is a great subject and as you can see, different people got different results with raw foods. Bottom line, raw foods put you back in control over your body, so you can gain weight or lose weight, depending on how you want to go about it. As a general rule, you will want to gain more muscle mass, not only more fat tissue, so you will likely also want to exercise a bit more than usual. Here

I would say that it really depends on what kind of fast you've been on. A fruit juice, tea or water fast would best break by gradually adding fibers into your diet, to give bulk to your stool. I would say unpeeled fruits and greens are a good place to start. Good luck!

I agree with most of the people who have commented here on this. As far as obesity is concerned, trying to pin that health problem on sugar alone is hardly the answer. At this point, it somewhat sounds as if someone is looking for a scapegoat. Thre researchers also said that "Nature made sugar hard to get; man made it easy", which is very true, but man also adapted his diet entirely

Hye there! For my knowledge, sun spots are associated with aging and caused by the skin gradually losing its ability to regenerate when exposed to UV light. They are unrelated to toxins, so no amount of detox will remove them. Other than being considered unsightly, they are benign, so there's no real reason to worry about them. I've heard that apple cider vinegar can help the skin regenerate e

It is perfectly OK to eat raw potatoes. There is some scientific evidence that they are very good for health, i read an article this summer about how purple potatoes can help reduce weight in people with obesity, as well as reduce blood pressure in hypertensive individuals. The scientists believed that white potatoes may have similar health benefits, bur further investigations were needed. Pot

There are many exceptional blogs out there where raw foodists share their amazing recipes. If you're craving comfort foods, i have a few things on my mind, such as raw burgers, raw eggless deviled eggs, raw nachos (or rawchos), raw almond butter, raw apple pie, raw lasagna, raw cookies, etc. Here are some of the recipes I mentioned: raw burger: raw eggless deviled eggs: rawchos:

There are many ways to beat stress by eating healthful raw foods. But the most important thing is to understand the origin of the stress. That always works for me. Sometimes just reflecting on the whole situation can make you feel better. While sometimes we feel stressful because we may be experiencing withdrawal symptoms from the unhealthy foods we used to eat before turning raw. Fresh, raw food

Rest assured that there ARE ways to gain weight on a raw food diet. The key is in finding a nutrient balance that is suitable for your body. Generally, by including more healthy fats from fruits, vegetables and nuts (such as avocado, olives, sunflower seeds, cashews, etc) and protein rich vegetables (lentils, soybeans, chickpeas, leafy greens), you can put on healthy weight in the form of muscle

I have made both raw tahnini and hummus using a regular blender that came with an extra grinding blade. It did take a bit of time and i did have to scrape some of the seeds off the inner walls of the container, but eventually i managed to obtain a pretty smooth tahini. The idea is that you will be needing to add some oil at the beginning, to prevent the seeds from clumping completely. Sesame seed

I also had issues with drinking plain water. I then devised a routine where i would drink a small glass of water every hour. I wouldn't think of its taste, I would just drink it - fill the glass and bottoms up! You can try drinking a cup of spring water every hour or so. Another way to help stay hydrated is to consume lots of fruits and vegetables that are rich in water. Also note that your water

Hello again, I forgot to mention a practice that might help greatly with tooth stains, namely "oil pulling". I first heard Daniel Vitalis talking about this and how some of the stains on our teeth are fat-soluble. Traditionally, sesame oil is used but many raw foodists opt for coconut oil, which is rich in lauric acid and has antimicrobial properties. In fact, Daniel Vitalis has an

Hello there! Foods that have the potential to stain teeth are called "chromogenic foods", and teas and some intensely colored fruits (berries and cherry) count among them. The best way to avoid long term staining is simply to improve dental hygiene. This may mean that you will have to brush and floss more often. Other than that, i doubt there is any secret trick to avoid staining. It
