My children aren't all raw, but I try to give them pretty healthy food. Since becoming raw myself I have realised that we should really eat more veg than fruit, avoiding too much fruit sugar. Recently I have realised that my children have mostly fruit for snacks, and this amounts to quite a lot of fruit in one day. So any ideas for interesting non-fruit snacks that are raw or nearly raw. Wh

Just to add, in response to later posts, I started a thread about depression on the health section a few weeks ago and that explains about the doctor, if anyone can be bothered to read it. I agree with the sugar stuff and know that that is my biggest problem. Bipolar is pretty dramatic highs and lows though, to the extent that it interferes with your life in more ways than one. And I'm f

Any ideas what to do with these. A few of our neighbours have organic allotments and keep bringing round enormous courgettes.

THank you for that Naveen. Yes, I haven't yet started to use wheatgrass. I have some organic seeds downstairs, but wasn't sure what to do with them. I was going to ask at some point, and plant them or sprout them

Thank you all for your support. I ate mostly raw today. Innervegetable (?) your post had some interesting ideas. I think find the reasons and goals quite hard, as it takes such a while for everything to really take effect. I'm glad I've lost a bit of weight as that way I can see that there is some change. Otherwise, I haven't had any noticeable detox symptoms, and sometimes it's hard to be

AFter a month or so eating mainly raw, and having lost half a stone, I had a really bad day today and just let myself eat a load of junk. I had a romaine lettuce salad for breakfast, then egg sandwiches for lunch, then some biscuits in the afternoon, then some roast chicken and chips for dinner (we occasionally get chips on a Saturday pm if we are late back from somewhere), then some chocolate.

Hi Haven't read all the replies, so hope I'm not repeating anything already said. Firstly, I was interested to read that someone else has found other peoples' perceptions of raw food is cold food. Recently I went to a child's birthday party where there were lots of sandwiches and sausages on sticks and things, and I was expected to eat these. Secondly, always remember you don't have to

Well, the almond butter didn't seem to be raw from what it said on the jar about heating, or being made of roasted almonds or some such thing. Is it usually raw then?

What can I do with this, except stuff dates (my vegan friend's idea - actually it was almond butter, but I found that isn't raw, so bought hemp instead)? Dawn

Completely raw today! Wow! Said I'd try and do two whole days raw this week, so hope I will keep it up tomorrow. May be difficult as we are going to a 2 year old's birthday party which may well involve cake. Also the journey there is quite difficult and I will arrive home late with the children who may well be grumpy by then, so I know I will be tempted by chocolate. I think the best thing

Been very erratic recently! Had a few days completely raw. Only one cup of tea in the past month (otherwise just water). Sometimes eaten bread and butter or, worse still, biscuits or chocolate. Definitely healthier than when I started though. As other people have said, I try not to beat myself up too much about the slips, so that I don't fall off the wagon completely. As I have had a fe

Yes, I think racist was the word I was looking for, but was afraid I had somehow misinterpreted earlier posts. However, I've just done a search on "eyes" in the raw food article, and there is some quite interesting writing on this. It seems to say the eyes, whatever colour, become clearer, rather than necessarily lighter, which I suppose makes sense. By the way, I don't particu

What about omega 3, I've heard this can be good for bipolar etc? Any advice on particular capsules to take? Actually this is something that worries me slightly about raw food. I think fish contains omega 3, but on the raw food/vegan diet I can't eat it. AS I write, my family are tucking into fresh mackerel downstairs. What else contains omega 3? Dawn

About the eyes. Yes, both my children were born with blue eyes, and the older one has gone green now. However, I'm not sure if this argument is flawed. For instance, my brother has blue eyes and eats loads of junk food, while I eat healthily and my eyes are greeny brown. Surely some people just have blue eyes and others brown. Am I missing something? It will be interesting to see if my

THanks for your long message Ally. IN fact, when I mentioned hiding the crisps I meant hiding them from my children, not hiding them from me, and not hiding them so that I could eat them. That's why I found it ironic that I ended up eating them. I did secretly eat chocolate etc in the past though before going raw, and yes, I can see it's a problem. I don't really want to involve my son in stop

Interestingly I didn't binge at all today. That was partly because I had eaten just about everything in the house, and with small children I can't just pop out to the shops on a whim. In fact, I've been feeling less hungry. I didn't even eat breakfast today, but just drank water - very unusual for me. Then this evening I just had an apple. For a banana binge I would probably eat up to 8,

Good idea about greens. I will eat lots of spinach today. Also I'm looking forward to some more beans I've sprouted. Last night though...! I'll tell you as it's almost funny. Although I don't buy crisps, when my little boy goes to parties he loves to eat them. So recently I bought them for when we went on a long journey. then, aware of how bad they were, and heavily into raw food and vega

OK so it seems that even though bananas and dates are healthy, in excess (like everything) they are bad. Makes sense. What can I do to get my blood sugar/endocrine system sorted .. that doesn't involve spending a lot of money on a wierd and wonderful cure? Dawn

Thank you for these messages. Actually I do have an old hobby that I have started doing again recently, but I think part of the problem is that I can't do it much because of the small children I have! I have very little time for myself, so I snatch brief moments when I can secretly munch things without them seeing. Sounds absurd I know. That's the problem in the day anyway. For the evenings

Hi They sound nice fresh, if I could get them. The hummus was OK and there's more for tonight. I think I put too much garlic in though. I tend to cook a lentil dish and then put lots of salads and bits on the table. I eat just the raw and my 2 small children have the lentils and take what they want of salad. They didn't want any hummus yesterday, but I was pleasantly surprised that

26. binges
I'm somewhere between veganism and raw foodism. Actually I have been 100% raw for the last few days. Before I embarked on this journey I actually ate pretty healthy cooked food(loads of fruit/veg/lentils, very littel fast food etc) but due to depression I tended to binge on chocolate or biscuits for comfort. Now, eating raw food, I still find the need to binge after the children are in bed

THank you for that Ian. I got some tahini paste and made hummus. But how can you eat them raw but not sprouted? Do you mean soaked for 12 or 24 hours? Will this do then? Dawn

I've been up and down since I last wrote, but I've managed to totally avoid caffeine through the ups and downs. However, the end of last week wasn't good. WE stayed at my Mum;s for 3 nights and I didn't want to tell her about going raw food or even vegan, so ran into problems! I managed to have just fruit for breakfast, and salad and nuts during the day, but had to eat her evening meal each
