Great thread! Sapphire - you rock! I quit smoking and went raw at the same time. It was crazy!! I urge you to do what you're doing. Enlist all the help that you can get. I used daily reflection books, went to a smoking cessation class, used the patch, made appologies to all my friends in advance for the day that I might tell them all to go s___ in their hats!!!! (didn't happen), got a &q

I have back pain every morning that doesn't go away until after I've had a bowel movement. The worst thing that I can do for my back is to allow myself to become constipated. (which doesn't actually happen anymore on raw food!) I tried to tell my doctor once and he brushed it off. Good luck with that. Please keep us posted. Life Is Good! alive!

Would anyone have a raw chocolate pecan pie recipe? Or - even just a good pecan pie recipe - hopefully using dates in the filling? I've been searching, but haven't found one yet. I have a family reunion coming up next weekend and would like to take a raw dish - besides the usual salads and fruits. Thanks! Life Is Good! alive!

There's a product called teeccino that's made from fruits, nuts, seeds herbs, etc. You might want to try that for when you have a major craving for coffee. You can find it at most health food stores or order by the case from Amazon. You'll find that once you're off the coffee - you actually have LOTS more energy - and it's steady, even energy that just keeps on keepin' on. Good luck with th

I read something about using a jar and a funnel. You put a small piece of fruit in the jar, set the funnel in the jar and they fly in but have a hard time finding their way out. You could take them outside to let them go, rather than killing them Life Is Good! alive!

Here's what worked for me. (Although I can't really say that anything actually worked since I'm still drinking that one cup in the am) I read CAFFEINE BLUES by Stephen Cherniske and that nearly scared the begeebies out of me - like I said before - I had been drinking buckets. So I went to the health food store and bought a can of Teeccino herbal coffee - loved it! I took it to some of my AA

Stick to your principles, remain friendly. My mother-in-law thinks I'm crazy, doesn't prepare food for me or invite me over for dinner on Sundays when she cooks for herself and my husband. It's ok - Although I'll probably be taking care of both their sorry asses some day!!!!!! But, seriously. We just need to know what we KNOW and let others be themselves. I pray before family gatherings tha

I'm still drinking one cup (in the morning) on a daily basis. That's down from the bucket of coffee that I was drinking just before I decided to go raw. My choice to go vegan was based on moral reasons, so I was one of those extrememly unhealthy vegans for a long time. I feel a whole lot better since cutting down from one bucket full to one cupful! My energy level went off the charts. I had

Good for you! I think it's good for women to not let their men define them. Even if you feel uncomfortable at times - stick to your principles. If you give in, you'll be telling him that this approach that he took will work and then he'll try to control you with it - concerning other things. You might as well let him know that you have to be who you are. My grandmother once gave me some real

Thanks for "Scotts story", Suncloud. It made my heart ache, but it also reminded me why I do what I do (don't eat what I don't eat). Aren't we glad that we're as "crazy" as other people think we are!!!!! Life Is Good! alive!

This IS a vegan forum. Please read the FAQ's. Vegan is a given here - there are other sites where you can talk about raw milk and eggs and cheese and meat all you want - just not here. (I think that the NFL board might be one of them) Please don't take this personally - we're just trying to keep the integrity and intention of the board clear. You'll see that 75% or above is considered a &quo

It's not unususal to obsess about food when making the transition to a vegetarian diet, a vegan diet or a raw vegan diet. It takes a lot of energy, focus, time, effort, thinking, reading, unlearning, experimenting to change around the eating/thinking habits of a life time - especially when it involves going against the current of society norms and the ideas we were raised with. This is just my

I've read of people over-consuming buckwheat greens in their juices and developing problems. You can read about it on Sproutman.com Go to FAQ and click on trouble shooting. I don't have a juicer, so I do the smoothie thing and I'm pretty happy with that - so far. I started to say that I thought that large amounts of green juice is a good thing, but I'm trying to "stay in my own hula-hoop&

My husband gave me their book "Raw Food Real World" for Christmas. I tried the recipe for cereal made with buckwheat and maple syrup. Even non-raw people like it. I also made the chocolate version with raw cocoa powder. Around here we call them Captain Crunch and Coco Krispies. Definately not the healthiest thing I eat and maple syrup isn't raw, but they fit the bill sometimes when

Welcome lisalovesveggies! I love your name! Many of us take b12. I've been a vegan for quite a while and feel like I'd like to be on the safe side. I still think that there's a riddle somewhere that we aren't aware of on the b12 issue and that we can get everything we need from plant/water/sun/air. But things have changed some since humans first walked the earth - so I figure maybe it's a

Hi seanmcool! You might not have realized, but this forum is vegan and we don't encourage others to eat eggs or discuss it on this forum. Vegan is sort of a "given" here. Having said that, maybe there are others who post or lurk here that could help you find the appropriate forum for an answer to your question. Life Is Good! alive!

You could try reading "Caffeine Blues". Although I still have a cup of coffee in the morning - the book has helped me get rid of the multi cup habit that I did have. In fact, I would guess that a steady increase in raw foods actually makes it much easier to ease caffeine out of the diet. I just haven't been willing to give up the morning cup - maybe this summer when it's really hot ou

Thanks for posting, Uma. I just ordered the book. I was planning to do the master cleanse, but I couldn't face another one. The maple syrup was the problem for me the last time. I did 10 days, but it was really hard to get the lemon-ade down the last couple of days. I'm going to read up and then perhaps try the grape diet. Grapes seem to grow so abundantly in the wild in this country. I

It really hurt when my teenage (14 yr old) son decided to stop being vegan after having been for several years, but I supported him in his decision. He came back around after a couple of years of "being like the other kids" without any comments or pressure from me, whatsoever. By the way - He eats healthie

Acording to "A Course in Miracles", the reason that life is so hard for so many of us is that we are awakening from a dream. It's the dream that we were taught. We see the insanity of dropping bombs on each other for ? reason. We feel the emptiness of persuing material things in search of happiness and wholeness. We have an emptiness inside and we try to fill it with drugs, alcohol,

I seem to remember that happening to me on the first day. I wouldn't worry about it, just be sure to do the swf tomorrow morning and keep doing it everyday. And I was feeling somewhat constipated the first day, also. Not eating food must have kept my body from being stimulated. Don't worry - just keep doing it EXACTLY according to directions and you'll get the great results of increased heal

Buckwheat greens can be toxic, but only if you're juicing them (large amounts). If you're eating them in salads and other dishes, you're OK. (Many foods can be toxic when overconsumed. Even parsley.) The best idea is to keep a large variety of foods in your diet - don't fall into the bad habit of eating the same few items day after day. Life Is Good! alive!

There are those who post on this site that would say this is a bad idea, but I will mention it anyway - because my experience has been a positive one - so far. You might want to look into hydrochloric acid. You may be deficient. Low stomach acid can cause bloating and pain. Do you feel less bloated in the morning and then does it get worse as the day goes on? Victoria Boutenko wrote abou

I bought the 5 tray shortly after going raw and I wish that I had bought the 9 tray. When I go shopping and bring home lots of nuts and seeds, I like to soak and sprout and dehydrate them and many times I have to "stagger" things because I don't have enough trays. Also, when the garden "explodes" and I'm trying to dehydrate tomatoes, I need the extra trays. If you can aff
